This is a cheap price for a Braves squad that has won five of its last six and goes for a three-game sweep tonight against a struggling Phillies team that has lost five straight. Even if Zach Eflin doesn’t give up four runs, as he has in his last two, at some point we’re going to get the horrendous Philly bullpen and its 8.29 ERA that has blown saves in five games against only two saves. Braves to win.

Here is why ERA can be very misleading. Oakland's Frankie Montas allowed nine earned runs in just 1 2/3 innings his last outing. Montas’ ERA going in to that game was 1.56 and then after it was 4.74. This is why xFIP helps predict future performances better than ERA. Montas xFIP was 4.31 and is now currently 5.05. If we use a median for ERA we get 2.25 and xFIP 4.64. Last year, Montas had an ERA of 2.63 and xFIP of 3.47. Montas has an explosive arm and the potential to be an above average pitcher. I'm expecting a bounce back today. I was wrong about the Angels having the talent to compete in the division, however almost every thing has gone wrong for them. The only bright spot has been Dylan Bundy, who is 3-2 with an ERA of 2.48 and xFIP of 3.44. Bundy has above average stuff evidence of his 10.47 K/9 and just 1.93 BB/9.

This is a big game for both teams, a bigger game for Denver but it will be a huge win for the Jazz if they can get it. Utah's defense has been very good the past two games, holding the Nuggets to 105 and 87. The three regular season games all went Under the total in regulation as the game in the bubble was tied 105-105 and went to overtime. The pace has been 1990's-esque with just 86 possessions in Game 2, 91 possessions in Game 3 and 94 possessions in Game 1. With this type of pace and a big game for both teams, my model is projecting just 206 points.

Luka Doncic is questionable for the Mavericks, but I think he's more doubtful with such a quick turnaround. I hate to lose such a big time scorer and facilitator, but the Mavericks will continue to push the pace and have plenty of firepower. Plus, the Mavs' defense just can't stop the Clippers. The Clippers will still be without Patrick Beverly, their best on ball guard defender. He creates so much havoc it takes teams so much longer to get into their offense and get a good shot. I'm on the Over.
