Twins at Indians 8/24/20 - MLB

A huge AL Central Division showdown will take place on Monday night, when the Minnesota Twins invade Progressive Field to face the Cleveland Indians. On Sunday, 1B Miguel Sano had three hits and scored twice during a 5-4 road victory against Kansas City. DH Nelson Cruz added a ninth inning solo shot for the Twins, who improved to 19-10 on the year.

The Cleveland Indians rank second in the majors with a 2.73 team ERA, but have struggled at the plate this season. On Sunday, Cleveland batted 1-for-10 with RISP and struck out 13 times during a 7-4 home loss versus Detroit. OF Greg Allen crushed a three-run blast in the ninth inning for the Indians, who fell to 17-11 on the year.

Twenty-five year old righty Aaron Civale (3-2 2.91 ERA) will draw the starting assignment for the Indians in the series opener. Through 34 innings, Civale has struck out 32 batters and allowed just three home runs.

Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays 8/24/20 - MLB

The Monday MLB schedule will get underway with a matchup between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Tampa Bay Rays from Tropicana Field. On Sunday, Toronto batted 1-for-7 with RISP and managed just six hits during a 5-4 road loss against Tampa Bay. OF Teoscar Hernandez hit his 10th home run and drew three walks for the Blue Jays, who stand at 13-13 overall.

Thirty-three year old righty Tanner Roark (2-1 4.76 ERA) will make his fifth start of the season for the Blue Jays. Last time out, Roark allowed nine hits and two runs in five innings during a 5-2 road victory against Baltimore.

The Tampa Bay Rays have won ten of their first 14 home games and sit atop the AL East Division standings. Yesterday afternoon, OF Austin Meadows doubled and drove in a pair of runs to spark the Tampa Bay offense. 3B Yander Diaz reached base four times for the Rays, who improved to 19-10 on the season.

2018 Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell (2-0 3.00 ERA) will get the nod for the Rays in the series finale. Through 18 innings of work, Snell has fanned 23 batters and posted a solid 1.17 WHIP.

        Recent Betting Trends

Rays are 36-16 in their last 52 games as a home favorite.
Under is 7-2-1 in Blue Jays last 10 road games.

Colorado Avalanche vs Dallas Stars 8/24/20 - NHL

The Dallas Stars are coming to the game here with a great win in the opening game of the series. The Stars were the underdog in the game, but managed to get a total of 5 goals in the game. What else was interesting was the way the Stars defense stepped up to stop the Avalanche offense in the game and only allowed a total of 3 goals to be scored.

Dallas for their part managed to get a total of 30 shots in the game. The physical play for the Stars were able to get a total of 48 hits in the game. Winning the faceoffs for the Stars landed them 38 wins on the faceoffs. When it came to the power play the Stars ended up getting 2 chances, but both of those failed.

Colorado is one team that has to figure out how to bounce back after the disappointment in the last game. The Avalanche who had a massive offensive machine going against the great Coyotes defense were completely contained. The Avalanche scored 3 goals, but also had a defensive collapse as well by giving up 5 goals in the game.

In the game the Colorado team managed to get a total of 31 shots on the day. The Avalanche recorded a total of 41 hits in the game. When it came to winning the draws in the game the Avs have managed to get 32 faceoffs won. On the power play the Avalanche only ended up with 1 chance and it failed.

          Recent Betting Trends

The total has gone OVER in 4 of Dallas' last 6 games.
Dallas are 5-1 SU in their last 6 games.
The total has gone OVER in 4 of Colorado's last 5 games.
Colorado are 14-6 SU in their last 20 games.

Free NHL Pick: Colorado Avalanche -165

With the game here the Stars will have to continue to keep their pressure high in the game. The problem is the Stars are one team that was not very consistent in the first game. Now, the Avalanche were consistent in most of their games and have had a few great offensive showings. Look for those to continue in the game here as the Stars are unable to keep their offensive pressure up in the game. Final Score Prediction, Colorado Avalanche win 4-2.

Philadelphia Flyers vs NY Islanders 8/24/20 - NHL

The Islanders were one team that looked really good in the opening round of the playoffs. The Islanders managed to knock off the defending Eastern Conference champs in the Capitals. Now, the Islanders will be facing the Flyers who actually had some problems in their opening series against the Capitals.

In the last 5 games the Islanders ended up going 4-1. Over that span the Islanders were able to score a total of 3.4 goals a game on the year. Defensively the Islanders only allowed 1.6 goals a game which was a great defensive showing for the Islanders against a very strong Capitals offense.

The Flyers had a challenge in eliminating the Canadiens and oddly the Montreal team almost looked like a team that was going to lose the game. Now, the Flyers have to face a team that has been playing really great hockey so far and that is going to be the Islanders who easily took care of the Capitals.

For their last 5 games the Flyers ended up going 3-2. The Flyers managed to average out to a total of 1.8 goals per game being scored. The defense for the Philadelphia team allowed 2.4 goals per game in the last 5 games.

            Recent Betting Trends

NY Islanders are 5-1 SU in their last 6 games.
NY Islanders are 4-1 SU in their last 5 games against Philadelphia.
The total has gone UNDER in 9 of Philadelphia's last 12 games.
Philadelphia are 16-3 SU in their last 19 games.

Free NHL Pick: New York Islanders +100

The game here is going to be one that the Flyers are going to have to figure out how to play great offensively, but also step up good defensively. The Flyers are giving up .6 goals more per game than what they are scoring and against Montreal were very streaky in the games. Now, the Islanders have played consist and are getting more than 3 goals per game scored while giving up well under 2 per game. Look for the Islanders to build upon that success and bring home the win. Final Score Prediction, New York Islanders win 4-2.

New York City FC vs Columbus Crew SC 8/24/20 - MLS (SOCCER)

On Monday, the New York City FC play the Columbus Crew SC Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New York. NYCFC has lost five of its first six matches in MLS play this season with four of the losses having a scoreline of 1-0. The most recent loss was a 1-0 setback to the New York Red Bulls in the Hudson River Derby. NYCFC is in dire need of offense with a goal difference of -5.

NYCFC keeper Sean Johnson bobbled a shot by Kyle Duncan and finally pounced on the bowl bear the goal line but following a review by referee Alan Chapman the goal was credited to the Red Bulls and that was the difference in the match. New York City continues to miss Maxi Moralez who has been sidelined with a calf injury and his status is questionable for Monday's match.

Columbus Crew is likely the best all around club in the MLS through the season's first six weeks. Columbus played very well during the MLS is Back Tournament and returned for a 3-0 thrashing of the Chicago Fire when restarting the regular season last week. The Crew is one of three undefeated clubs in the league and has a +11 goal differential.

Not only is Columbus scoring on a regular basis but the backline and goalkeeper have conceded just one goal in six matches in league play. Darlington Nagbe, considered one of the best holding midfielders in the MLS, scored on a thunderous volley from far out for the Crew in it's 3-0 victory over Chicago.

Free Soccer Pick: Columbus Crew +205

New York City FC is feeling the pressure at this point sitting next to last in the Eastern Conference with just three points and ahead of just the new expansion club Inter Miami. Columbus Crew on the other hand is at the top of the East standings with 16 points having won five of its six matches with a draw in the other. Advantage here goes to Columbus regardless of playing on NYC FC's home pitch. Final Score Prediction, Columbus Crew SC wins 2-0

MILWAUKEE BUCKS @ ORLANDO MAGIC PICKS, EXPERT PREDICTIONS & BETTING TIPS

ORL Magic Win +13.5 Point Spread
                -110

                Under 225.5 Game Totals
                -110

                Against the Spread Pick
The Orlando Magic will be looking to remain within realistic striking distance of the Milwaukee Bucks when those two teams meet again for Game 4 on Monday. Orlando has done well simply to earn a single win over the top seeds (Game 1), but Milwaukee responded with convincing victories on Thursday and Saturday. Still, despite the Bucks’ dominance right from the start in Game 3 the Magic still almost came up with a backdoor cover (lost by 14 points). That could definitely happen again, but the underdogs also have a chance to be legitimately competitive. Nikola Vucevic is averaging 29.0 ppg in the playoffs and has delivered two double-doubles. For Milwaukee, Eric Bledsoe and Khris Middleton have been mediocre at best so far this series. The Bucks are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 playing on one day of rest and 1-6 ATS in their last seven following a win. In the aftermath of Milwaukee’s back-to-back wins, Orlando is probably getting too many points.

                Over Under Pick
Orlando’s four point totals against Milwaukee during the regular season were 91, 101, 100, and 95. It has averaged 101.5 ppg over the past two contests. Unless Middleton and Bledsoe get hot, the Magic can keep this a low-scoring game and give themselves a chance of at least being competitive. The under is 7-2 in the Bucks’ last eight following a win. It is also 5-2-1 in the Magic’s last seven against opponents with winning records and 13-5 in their last 18 first-round games. Additionally, the under is 5-2-1 in the last eight meetings between the two teams. If you are going with Orlando, you probably need to go with the under as well.

HOUSTON ROCKETS @ OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER PICKS, EXPERT PREDICTIONS & BETTING TIPS

HOU Rockets Win -3.5 Point Spread
                  -110

                  Over 220.5 Game Totals
                  -110

                  Against the Spread Pick
The Oklahoma City Thunder faced a virtual must-win situation on Saturday and survived in overtime to pull within 2-1 of the the Houston Rockets in this first-round series. Still, even without Russell Westbrook (quadriceps), Houston has been by far the better team and obviously could be up 3-0. It took Game 1 by a 123-108 margin and rolled through Game 2 with a 111-98 victory. Danuel House Jr. has been stellar as the Rockets’ roster tries to pick up the slack without Westbrook. House went for 19 points and nine rebounds in Game 2 before delivering a double-double (15 points, 10 rebounds) on Saturday. Oklahoma City big man Steven Adams is questionable due to a knee injury and his absence could be crippling. Adams is averaging more than 30 minutes of court time per game this series and has grabbed at least 11 boards on every occasion. He had 17 points and 12 rebounds in Game 1. Houston is 7-3 ATS in its last 10 first-round games. The Thunder are 0-4 ATS in their last four following a win. Go with the Rockets.

                  Over Under Pick
A decent amount of points have been scored even though these two teams are averaging less than 100 possessions per game this season. That puts them in the bottom half of that statistical department in these playoffs. During the regular season, however, the Rockets were second in the NBA in pace of play with 104.04 possessions per game. Even without Westbrook, they will be eager to pick the tempo back up on Monday because that works to their advantage against OKC. Although Adams’ absence would hurt the Thunder somewhat on offense, it be more of a problem on defense. The over is 5-2 in the Thunder’s last seven overall. Look for this one to go over the total.

INDIANA PACERS @ MIAMI HEAT PICKS, EXPERT PREDICTIONS & BETTING TIPS

MIA Heat Win -6.5 Point Spread
                    -110

                    Under 216.5 Game Totals
                    -110

                    Against the Spread Pick
This was supposed to be an interesting series, instead Miami is one game away from sweeping the Pacers out of the bubble. For the Pacers, they have really missed the presence of Damontas Sabonis. He is their best rebounder and helps free up their perimeter scorers. So far in the series Malcolm Brogodon has been the primary scorer, as TJ Warren has struggled to find the rhythm he had in the early games of the bubble. Indiana’s big problem in this series is that it just doesn’t have the depth to compete with the better teams. Myles Turner was all alone on the inside and might be seeing stars. For Miami, I have been impressed with this team in this series. The Heat have played tough and you can see the influence of Jimmy Butler on this team. He has played really well and he gives them a guy they can rely on to get buckets. Goran Dragic has also regained his form; both he and Butler are averaging better than 20.0 ppg in the series. Miami has covered in all three games so far and I expect they will close out the Pacers and cove again in the sweep. Take Miami.

                    Over Under Pick
The first two games of this series went under. Game 3 went over with the Pacers scoring 115, more than either team had scored in either of the first two games. Miami scored 124 in that one and it has dragged the total up for this potential series closing game. I am confident in the result but with this being a series closer I am worried about Indiana having enough in the tank and off the bench to be truly competitive throughout the game. Miami has good depth but again the effort is going to be light. Take the under.

LOS ANGELES LAKERS @ PORTLAND TRAILBLAZERS PICKS, EXPERT PREDICTIONS & BETTING TIPS

LA Lakers Win -7.5 Point Spread
                      -110

                      Under 224.5 Game Totals
                      -110

                      Against the Spread Pick
The Trail Blazers took the opener and we thought the momentum they carried from the restart might create an interesting series. Now the Lakers have won games two and three and appear to have taken control of the series in the process. In Game 2 Anthony Davis really came alive and he was alright in game three also with 29 points and 11 rebounds. Even scarier though was that game three saw LeBron James find his scoring touch. He has 38 points and 12 boards and I think that is what the Lakers need in order to be at their best. When he is too focused on distributing, I think the Lakers lose their aggressiveness and they need that because they are not quite as deep as you think. Portland has gotten production from their stars, Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum, but both are banged up and even though Carmelo Anthony found his range in Game 3 it wasn’t enough. Anthony scored 20 but the entire bench had just eight points. That is not a wining formula. For Portland to get back to winning it needs more from Lillard. I think the magic might be lost. Take the Lakers.

                      Over Under Pick
This series has seen back to back to back under. As a result we are seeing the total drop about 10 points from the number we saw in Game 1. The totals have been interesting because there is a lot of firepower combined on these teams. This is not a closeout game so we will not have to factor that into this one but I do think Portland might be teetering emotionally. Perhaps they had to expend too much energy just to get to this point and they don’t have it left. I see another sluggish performance here. The stars likely get their points, but not enough to go over. Take the under.

The American League East is one of the most intriguing divisions in all of baseball right now, thanks in part to these two teams. While the Rays may be in first place, the Blue Jays have been the division rival that’s most closely competed with them so far this season. After Toronto took the first game of the series to extend their winning streak to six games, the Rays won two contests by one run to take a 2-1 lead heading into Monday’s final game. In hopes of a series split, the Blue Jays turn to Tanner Roark, who’s been stretched further each of his past three starts and should be good to give them six innings. Former Cy Young winner Blake Snell hasn’t lost yet this year and faces a lineup that hasn’t had much success against him. This game is as much of a tossup as any this season, so give the away Blue Jays an early head start and take Toronto on the run line.

                        Over Under Pick
Both starting pitchers are in form and coming off strong starts. Snell has a 2.78 career ERA against the Blue Jays, and Roark is a solid veteran pitcher who the young Toronto lineup feels comfortable playing behind. The combination of Snell and the Rays’ bullpen at home is a tough ask for any major league team, so don’t expect a ton of runs to be scored in Monday’s contest. After Saturday’s game ended 2-1, look for another close and low-scoring affair and go with the under.

Pablo Lopez has been one of the most pleasant surprises in the entire National League, pitching to a 2.42 ERA in his first four starts of the season. Facing a confident Lopez will be a much tougher task for a Nationals lineup that scored nine runs off Humberto Mejia and the Miami bullpen on Sunday. Washington’s starting rotation took a massive hit this week when it was announced that Stephen Strasburg will miss the rest of the season with a wrist injury. Fifth starter Austin Voth is one of the guys who Washington will rely on to step up in the absence of Strasburg. The 28-year-old fared well in his only career start against the Marlins, allowing just one run, but now he’s under immense pressure to be one of Washington’s leading arms in a race for a National League East division that is as open as any division in baseball. Look for the Marlins to strike early and often and even the series by putting a dent in Voth’s confidence and the Nationals’ playoff hopes. Take the away team.

                          Over Under Pick
While Lopez has been successful in 2020, most of Washington’s big bats have had his number in the past. Juan Soto owns a .455 career batting average and two home runs against the Miami right-hander, and both Trea Turner and Adam Eaton have also taken Lopez deep. The teams combined for twelve runs on Sunday, and with Voth feeling more pressure from his increasingly important role with the ballclub, go with the over again on Monday.

Kenta Maeda makes his first start since taking a no-hitter into the ninth inning against the Brewers last Tuesday. The Japanese right-hander has excelled in his first year in the American League, allowing just eight runs in his five starts as a Twin. Indians starter Aaron Civale is also coming off the best start of his career. The 25-year-old pitched a complete game against the Pirates and has pitched to a 2.55 ERA in his fifteen starts since making his Major League debut for the Tribe last June. Civale’s toughest task will be keeping the ball in the ballpark–he’s already given up three homers this year and he’s up against a Twins team that set the major league record for home runs last season. Minnesota now holds a one and a half game advantage in the division after their series win against the Royals and the Indians losing two of three to the Tigers, so look for the Twins to keep their momentum rolling by taking the first game of three in Cleveland.

                            Over Under Pick
Maeda’s start last Tuesday was without a doubt the best of his career, but it was also the most taxing–he threw 115 pitches, a career high. Civale threw 109 his last time out on Wednesday, and it will be a tough ask to come back five days later and bring his A-game again against a ruthless Minnesota lineup. Look for both starting pitchers to tire earlier than last week, and Minnesota’s offense to break out after putting up mostly average numbers so far in 2020. Take the over.

The Texas Rangers will be hoping to halt a ridiculous eight-game losing streak when they host the Oakland Athletics for the first of a four-game series on Monday. They lost their final against Colorado on Aug. 16 before getting blanked this past week–in four straight by San Diego and in three straight by Seattle. If anyone can give Texas a chance, it is right-hander Lance Lynn. He is 3-0 with a 1.37 ERA through six starts this season. But that is where the good news ends and the bad news returns. The Athletics are 20-9 and they are countering Lynn with left-hander Jesus Luzardo. He is 2-0 with a 3.67 ERA to go along with 27 strikeouts compared to just 11 walks in 27.0 innings. The Rangers have scored only 101 runs this season (worst in the American League) so it stands to reason that they will struggle with Luzardo. Oakland is 37-17 in its last 54 overall, 40-18 in its last 58 against opponents with winning percentages under .400, and 4-0 in its last four at Texas. The Rangers are 6-14 in their last 20 against the American League West and 14-37 in the last 51 meetings between the two teams. Go with the Athletics.

                              Over Under Pick
Combine Texas’ hitting woes with sending Lynn to the mound and what you get is an ideal recipe for a low-scoring affair. Lynn faced the Athletics on Aug. 4 and fired 6.1 innings of one-run baseball…and the Rangers still lost (5-1). None other than Luzardo pitched for the A’s in that contest and he was even better–working 5.0 innings of shutout ball. The under is 4-0 in the Athletics’ last four overall and 5-2 in their last seven series openers. Look for this one to stay under the total.

The Cincinnati Reds may have just lost three out of four to the St. Louis Cardinals, but you have to like their chances with their ‘Ace’, Trevor Bauer starting this game. Bauer has been incredible to say the least this season, going 3-0 so far with an outstanding 0.68 ERA. His last start saw him shutout the Royals over 7.0 innings. Bauer has already faced the Brewers once this year, holding them to one run on three hits over 6.0 innings.

The Brewers have not been playing well, either, losing four games in a row. They will start Brett Anderson, who is 1-2 on the year with an ERA of 3.71. He had a very good outing last time out, beating the Twins by allowing just one run over 6.0 innings. He also has faced the Reds once this season, but lasted only 3.2 innings an allowed two runs. Until Bauer shows any signs of regression, I am going to continue to back him. I will take the Reds to win with medium confidence.

                                Over Under Pick
When Bauer has taken the mound this season, it has almost always result in the total staying under. In fact, three of his four starts have been played to unders. Cincinnati is playing to the under regardless, having seen less than nine runs in four of their last five games. The Reds are averaging just 3.0 runs over their last five games and the Brewers are averaging 4.2 runs over the same stretch. This would really only be a lean, but Bauer has just been too strong so I will lean to the under here.
