I understand the Jays will have their ace Hyun-Jin Ryu and his 3.19 season ERA on the hill, but this is more of a play on the belief that while Ryu may keep the Boston bats in check, I do not at all believe Boston starter Chris Mazza will be able to keep the Toronto bats silent.


Mazza is making just his third appearance of the season and his second start tonight. His last start lasted 3 innings as he allowed 8 hits and 4 runs in a loss to the Yankees.


The Blue Jays have scored 22 runs over their last 3 games, 16 of them already in this series. The Over has connected in 2 of their last 3 games.


The Red Sox pitching staff owns an ERA over 6 for the year.


You do the math...this one looks like a big night of crooked-digits on the scoreboard for the home team and just enough crooked digits for the visitors to send the game Over the total.

My Thursday freebie comes in hockey as I expect both Las Vegas and Vancouver to see a lower-scoring game in Game Three as the teams stay Under the total in this Western Conference Semifinal series,

Vegas scored 5 times in their Game One shutout win, as the game did hold Under the total.

Vancouver scored 5 times in their Game Two win, as that game did land Over thanks to a pair of Golden Knights goals.

I have a feeling that BOTH teams will be much better on the defensive end this evening and we will see a low-scoring contest that holds Under the total.

Remember, Vegas had allowed just 11 goals total prior to their big 5-spot surrendered on Tuesday and had been 4-2 Under the total in those 6 previous playoff games.

Expect things to revert back to form in this meeting as goals become just a little harder to come by and we see the Knights and Canucks hold Under in Game Three.

MO ME MO MY - This animal obviously likes the conditions for today's race. Has earned the highest speed figure on the grass at the distance-surface. I like that most recent race on August 9th at Saratoga where she ran second. Traditional angle - 3rd or 4th start after a vacation generally leads to a big effort. A live one today. SECURE CONNECTION - Ortiz comes to get aboard after getting to know the filly in the last event. Filly emerged victorious her last race here on Jul 16th as a shipper. I think she looks like a winner once again. In the last race on the sod, this equine was strong. Anything close in this race, and this one should win. OVERHEATED - This mare should be in tip-top shape, this far into her form cycle. This horse has increased her speed figs in each of the last 2 races. That kind of progress is worth taking a look at. JADES GELLY - Ward has a very great win pct in turf sprints. This filly should be conditioned properly and ready to go. Filly's last workout was second fastest of the day for the distance. Personally, I wouldn't worry about where she finished in her last race (fourth). Should rebound in this field, with some pretty good odds.

STRONG ENDING - No need to look any further. This pony has my dough. Way too much early speed. Kopaj drops him down to this class level. You don't need too much more handicapping information to believe this animal should run well at this level. In the last race, finished sixth on the soft turf at Gulfstream Park. Has to do better right here in this race. A repeat of that most recent effort on Jul 26th where he notched a speed fig of 88 looks lofty enough to score in this clash. THREE DEEP - I think Gulfstream Park players know a good thing when they see the jockey/trainer twosome of Jaramillo and Zerpa. Their win pct together has been strong. This mount collects a lot of money per race. I believe he will add to that total right here.

SENZAZIONE - 3/1 is just not enough of a price to take on this thoroughbred. HEY GRIFF - Will be hard for this animal to beat this bunch off of that last fig. Reason: The Oakland A's are tied for the most wins in baseball with their 22-10 record. They have won two straight games and six of the last 10. Today, they take on the Texas Rangers who are fourth in the AL West at 11-19 and have lost nine of their last 10 games. A's will start Chris Bassitt who is 2-1 in his six starts with a nifty 2.97 ERA and 1.080 WHIP. Bassitt has been very consistent in his six starts, allowing two runs or fewer in four of those games. Jordan Lyles will toe the rubber for the Rangers. Lyles has a 10.08 ERA and 2.015 WHIP. Despite Lyles struggles, I expect the A's to hold down the Rangers scoring here on Thursday.
