    2-Unit Play. Take #952 Toronto (-1.5, -105) over Baltimore (2 p.m., Monday, Aug. 31)

I have no problem betting against Keegan Akin here. His ERA was nearly 5.00 last year in Triple-A and has an 8.10 ERA in two brief appearances this season. Toronto has won three straight in this series and the Orioles had dumped five straight (and 8 of 10). Chase Anderson has been steady and the Jays are building some serious momentum at the moment. Toronto is 35-16 in their last 51 games against the Orioles and 78-36 in their last 114 meetings hosting the O's.

    3-Unit Play. Take #961 Atlanta (-1.5, -120) over Boston (7 p.m., Monday, Aug. 31)
Max Fried has been dominating this year and has been one of the best pitchers in baseball. The Braves have won all seven of his starts and Fried is 5-0 with a 0.95 WHIP and a 1.35 ERA. Nothing about Colton Brewer intimidates me and no bet against the Red Sox is a bad bet, despite their recent 7-3 burst. The Braves are 13-3 as an interleague favorite and 13-6 in their last 19 interleague games.

    2-Unit Play. Take #970 Colorado (-110) over San Diego (9:40 p.m., Monday, Aug. 31)
I think that German Marquez has been a hard luck guy. His BABIP is in the Top 10 in the league and he could be due for a positive regression. If you watch him pitch his stuff still looks good. Garrett Richards has a 5.17 ERA and already got hammered in Coors Field once this year. The Rockies got bombed 13-2 yesterday after sweeping Saturday's doubleheader. I like them to bounce back here and lock up a series win.
    Carpe diem. Good luck.

3 Unit Play. Take #955 St. Louis +105 over Cincinnati (6:40 p.m., Monday, Aug. 31)
The Redbirds offense has played like they still have restrictions in averaging just past four runs a contest. St. Louis has several players batting .300 or better like Paul Goldschmidt, Paul DeJong, Brad Miller and Yadier Molina, but after them, it drops off the cliff to a collection of .200 or worse hitters. Cincinnati is in much the same boat at 4.0 RPG and not getting much hitting outside of outfielders Jesse Winker and Nicholas Castellanos. The anticipated pitching matchup is Dakota Hudson (0-2, 3.32 ERA) and Anthony DeSclafani (1-1, 5.71). These hurlers faced each other 10 days ago and neither lasted five innings to get a decision, with Cincy winning 4-2. Let's snag the Cardinals who are 15-4 with Hudson when playing against a team with a losing record and stellar 17-4 on Mondays.

The White Sox look to continue their ascent as they've been victorious in 11 of their last 13 games. In three outings this season, Twins starter Rich Hill has yet to work more than five innings. Grab the White Sox to take advantage of Minnesota's injury-plagued bullpen.

The Rays have won six of their seven meetings with the Yankees this season and each of the last five, including three in New York a few weeks ago. Tampa Bay also is riding a five-game overall winning streak. But Gerrit Cole is seeking redemption after serving up three homers and yielding a season-high five runs in Atlanta on Wednesday for his first loss of the season. Cole is 0-2 in six career starts against the Rays but registered 10 strikeouts in each of his two outings in 2020 - both no-decisions - and is primed to lead the Yankees to their fourth straight win.

After losing four of the final five games on their schedule, the Heat flipped the switch and swept Indiana in their first-round playoff series. They'll face a much tougher challenge against a top-seeded Bucks team that won four straight versus Orlando after losing their series opener by a dozen points. Two of those victories were by 15 points and the other two were by 14. Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 28 or more in each of the five games against the Magic and will continue the streak on Monday.

In this season’s two active dates, Atlanta won 10-1 and 2-1. Boston had an excellent performance at the plate Sunday, but it is 0-13 in the first game of a series with no rest as a +130 underdog or greater after hitting multiple home runs. We are on Atlanta on Monday.

Shane Bieber is in a career-perfect spot. The Indians are 14-0 in Bieber’s career on the road when he is off a start in which he allowed six or fewer hits, had a strike-per-ball ratio lower than 2.5 and the Indians won. Bieber has produced eight straight quality starts in this spot and the Indians have won by an average of 3.29 runs. The Royals are 0-14 as a +160 or greater home underdog before their 100th game of the season when they are off a game in which they had 10-plus strikeouts. Kansas City lost these games by an average of 5.21 runs and each was by multiple runs. We are laying the big price.

The Yankees have won three straight, but they are still 3.5 games back. The Rays, however, are 0-6 before game No. 120 in a series opener with no rest when they are off a road series and facing a team that is behind them in the standings. Tampa is 0-3 in this spot this season, and the Rays were a -140 or greater favorite in all three losses. New York is 17-0 before game No. 90 as a -130 or steeper favorite versus an AL foe when they are off a win in which they never trailed. Gerrit Cole has been lower than -150 three times since September 2017. He produced three multiple-run wins. We are on the Yankees.

Minnesota's Rich Hill is still an above-average pitcher at age 40. Hill went five innings, allowed just four hits, one run and struck out five in his last outing at Cleveland. Chicago's Lucas Giolito is coming off of the first and only no-hitter in 2020. Giolito has great stuff, but I'm expecting a letdown. The Twins' offense has been far better versus righties than lefties in 2020. Their OPS versus right-handed pitchers is .758 and their OPS vs left-handed pitchers is .658.

Milwaukee closed out Orlando just two days ago, winning the series 4-1.. Miami swept Indiana and has not played for a week. Miami beat Milwaukee twice before the games went on hiatus, but in the bubble the Bucks won 130-116. I have Milwaukee eight points better in my power ratings. The Bucks will use their wake-up call from their Game 1 upset loss to the Magic for motivation Monday in the Game 1 opener.
