Al Cimaglia: Woodbine Mohawk Park Early Pick 5 Analysis

    September 21, 2020 | By Al Cimaglia
Woodbine Mohawk Park starts the week with an 11-race card. The consistently popular 0.20 Early Pick 5 begins the program. That sequence has a $100,000 guaranteed pool and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

    Race 1

1-Sonadora Deo (8/5)-Tossing last when used hard against top filly trotters and broke. Now back in against Grassroots company and beat this kind by >4 lengths on 9/11.
3-Pier Ho Kado (2-1)-A consistent threat at this class and has been in the money in 4 of 5 starts here with 1 picture. Filion will put this filly in play in a tough race.
7-Moana (5/2)-This a very consistent filly at this level too. Has the gate speed to get the top or a 2-hole trip. Because of the outside draw should offer the most value and best to not overlook.

    Race 2

1-Up And Ready (5/2)-Should like the company after battling some top 2-year-old fillies and holding her own. McNair ought to be able to find live cover and get her into the mix at the top of the lane, similar to 7/31 win.
5-You Will Be Queen (2-1)-Barn has been cold in last 30 days but this gal consistently hits the board and should be a major player versus this kind. Has hit the board in 4 of 5 Wbsb starts and notched 1 win.

    Race 3

4-Major Bean (5/2)-Jamieson worked a nice trip in the Champlain but the competition was too tough and couldn't close in the lane. This is a better spot to break maiden.
5-Lincoln Boulevard (4-1)-Closed in .56 in last which was only the 2nd lifetime start. Now makes 2nd Wbsb start and 3rd for new barn. Could be better tonight so will use at a square price.
7-Prayerforthewicked (7/2)-Got the top and fractions were swift in last and faded to finish 2nd as the 3-2 choice. McClure takes over and my guess is there will be a different type of trip this time. Price should be better and has the speed to be in the hunt.

    Race 4

4-Yen (6/5)-Comes off a win at the Grassroots level and appears to be a cut above this field as well. Filion closed off cover into a dull fractions last week and he has options this time. Has been the odds-on choice in last 3 starts and should be bet down again.

    Race 5

4-Vines To Heaven (5-1)-This is 1st time Moreau after a claim and that angle is clicking at 30%. That stat isn't a secret but this mare could go off at close to the program odds.
5-Fern Hill Bella (9/2)-Spreading out in this leg, Roy takes a seat and that is a positive driver change plus gets some post relief. Will toss the 9/15 start from the 7-hole at Flmd and comes right back to the big track looking for an overdue win.
6-Moneymakehersmile (4-1)-Only 1-16 at Wbsb but that win came in the last start off a nice trip. Drury can work another smooth journey and should be in the hunt tonight.
8-Miss Rockadali (7/2)-McNair steers and has 1 win in last 5 starts but hasn't missed by more than 1 1/2 lengths. The post helps the price, has the gate speed to get the top and should be blasting out.

    0.20 Early Pick 5

    1,3,7/1,5/4,5,7/4/4,5,6,8
    Total Bet=$14.40

      Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

      Mountaineer - Race #1
#10 Trouble X Two Doesn't always fire, but his best stuff is good enough here if he can bring it, and the price figures to be right off the modest sort of run last out.
#6 Atlantic Sun Moves into the new barn off the claim after a decent run when dropping in class last out, and he's a good fit right back with these. That said, he was a length short at 3-5 last out, so I'm not too excited to take another short price.
#1 Aktabantay Form has been pretty hit or miss over the course of the last year, but there are still some decent efforts left in this guy, and he can probably offer something better than the dud last out.
Race Summary Trouble X Two occasionally brings the right kind of effort to score with these, and after an improved run when back on the turf, perhaps he's sitting on one of those good ones now.
      Mountaineer - Race #2
#8 Andrea's Pride Price should be right after the dull local debut, but there are a couple of pretty decent two-turn turf tries buried in the past that make the move to a route run at least a little interesting at a number.
#2 Desirade Should find the local company a bit softer after that good sprint effort at Colonial, and though the pedigree is there, she's still a wildcard around two turns.
#1 Shakin' That Sugar Tactical type has had 10 chances, so she's getting short on excuses, but she has some tactical pace that can work in her favor. Not sold at the 3/1 ML.
Race Summary Andrea's Pride is a swing here after a mostly even sprint effort, but her back form around two turns is interesting enough to take a little swing at a price.
      Mountaineer - Race #8
#8 Stonetown Boy Steps up off a couple of useful Midwest runs, and as far as figures go he's not too far off what it might take to score. Class is the question, but after the guy drawn directly outside of him, there isn't much else to worry about in here.
#9 Without Malice Clearly the one to beat after nearly landing a race with similar last out, but the main worry is that he gave away ground going 5 1/2f, this 6f trip is at least a little bit of a question mark for a 4/5 ML chalk.
#3 Anywhere Road Decent kind of effort last out when only passing a couple tired ones, and he can get the right kind of trip to land a piece of this.
Race Summary Without Malice can be a real handful with these, but I'll take the chance that he might be vulnerable in the final yards. Stonetown Boy has turned into a reliable finisher and can spring an upset.

        Brian Nadeau's Daily Picks

        Finger Lakes - Race #2
#7 Deficit Hawk Stalker enters in good form, catches a group with enough pace to set him up, and won't be favored either; look out.
#1 Dean Verdile Veteran speedster is the one to catch and beat, though with speed to his outside, lasting won't be easy; second-best.
#5 Quick Posse Stretch runner likely needed his last, so he can improve, but yikes, it was ugly, so he better wake up; along for a share.
Race Summary You'll get fair value on the 7, as they will bet the 1 hard and the pick has run 2nd in two straight, but it looks like he's getting all the best of it here, so play him to win and place, and especially in the early Pk4 as well, since he looks primed to finally get over the hump.
        Finger Lakes - Race #3
#4 Sweetest Party The chalk was a good 2nd last time and, at just 0-for-7, has yet to shown he's not interested in winning, unlike many others here; too good for these.
#5 Honorable Gibson Stretch out sprinter was a decent 6th on the turf at FE and was facing better when last here, and his lone route was against MSW foes; exotics appeal.
#1 Theresa's Boy Lifetime maiden is now 0-for-32 and counting after running 3rd to the pick, yet many of his runs make him a player here; using underneath, as always.
Race Summary That 2-1 ML on the pick would be fair value, as his best is too good for these, so make an aggressive win and place bet at 7-5 or better, while getting some additional value by singling him in the early Pk4, as this is his chance, and he figures to break through in a big way.

          Jerry Shottenkirk's Daily Picks

          Indiana Grand - Race #3
#5 War Act Closed strongly for an easy win in his first local start and can repeat in his second start for Elliott.
#4 Artemus Eagle Tough when he gets on the front end and has a good chance at his edge; makes second off the claim for Paquette.
#2 Traffic Stop Was a clear winner two back and followed with a third in his latest; has a good closing move and with a solid pace can be one to hold off.
Race Summary War Act was impressive in his first here and probably has more than he showed; can close the deal when called upon.
          Indiana Grand - Race #5
#6 Twobirdsonestone Has a good closing kick, gets a fast pace today and can be the one to watch late in the game.
#3 Chipofftheoldblock Set the pace and tired last in the Governors Stakes; was an allowance winner two back and can be good on the front end.
#4 Cash for Gold Was on the board in all five starts and was second last out; fits with these and can be a late threat.
Race Summary Twobirdsonestone has been stuck in this condition for a while and can benefit from stretching out to six furlongs. Due to score.
          Indiana Grand - Race #7
#6 Dirty Bad Boy Ran evenly last time out but can be a forward factor; capable of digging in vs. these.
#1 Fashion Nugget Tired late but held second going a mile; adds distance and needs to have a strong finish. Will be a short price on the board.
#3 Purple Shirl Was fifth in a stakes race last out and will probably be fairly close to the lead in this one; can be a factor at a price.
Race Summary Dirty Bad Boy has some races on his form that would make him tough here; has the best chance to hold off the 3-5 favorite.

                            Patrick Everson

Yoan Moncada and the White Sox aim to firm up their position atop the AL Central in a Monday game against the Indians. Caesars sportsbooks made Chicago a modest -110 road favorite.

MLB betting odds are on the board for an abbreviated Monday schedule of 11 games. Among the noteworthy matchups, the Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Indians do battle in an AL Central clash.

Caesars sportsbooks provided insights on MLB opening lines and early line movement, sharp money and public betting for Monday’s games.

                            MLB line movement

The White Sox are actually in a little rut, if going 2-3 in the last five games can be considered a rut. Thanks to a 10-1 run right before that, though, Chicago is still atop the AL Central, two games clear of the Minnesota Twins and five games ahead of today’s opponent, the Indians. Caesars books opened the visiting ChiSox -110, with the Tribe even money for a 6:10 p.m. ET first pitch.

The Miami Marlins and Atlanta Braves begin a pivotal four-game NL East series with a 7:10 p.m. ET contest Monday. The Braves lead the resilient Marlins by three games, and Caesars has Atlanta a -165 home chalk, with Miami +153.

The red-hot New York Yankees hit the road for a four-game set with the Toronto Blue Jays, starting with a 6:37 p.m. ET contest Monday. New York won 10 in a row before finally taking a loss Sunday, 10-2 at Boston. With starters not yet set for Monday’s Yanks-Jays tilt, the line wasn’t posted for this game Sunday night.

                            MLB public betting

White Sox-Indians was getting two-way traction in the Consensus, with a lean toward the visitor, as Chicago was taking 55 percent of picks through Sunday night. On the flip side, Marlins-Braves was not two-way, with Atlanta attracting 78 percent of early Consensus picks.
