NFL | Patriots vs Chiefs
Play on: Patriots +11 -115 at Bovada
My free play is on the NE Patriots at 7:05 ET.
2-1 New England and 3-0 Kansas City were scheduled to play Sunday but Patriots QB Cam Newton and Chiefs practice squad QB Jordan Ta'amu were added to the COVID-19 reserve list this weekend. The status of the game was "up in the air" but thankfully, further testing showed none of their teammates were infected with the virus. Therefore, the game will be played Monday night 7:05 ET (CBS). The regularly scheduled MNF game featuring 0-3 Atlanta and 3-0 Green Bay has been bumped back 45 minutes and will now kick off at 8:50 on ESPN.
Cam Newtown had completed 68.1 percent of his passes for 714 yards but had two two TD passes (also two U+INTs). However, he had 149 yards rushing (along with a team-high four rushing TDs), joining RB Michel (173 YR on 6.7 YPC) to give New England one the league's best running games (178.0 YPG on 5.1 YPC). The Pats figured to really test a KC rush defense that ranked 27th in the league (153.0 YPG ) through three games but the game-plan may change somewhat WRs Edelman and Harry each have caught 15 passes but neither has scored a TD. The New England pass D couldn't stop Russell Wilson (five TD passes in Week 2) and now must face Patrick Mahomes. Do I really need to say much about Mahomes?
He's completing 67.8 percent for 898 yards with nine TDs and not a SIBLE interception in 121 attempts (QB rating of 114.3). He's got a DOMINANT set of receivers, led by TE Kelce (21 catches / 2 TDs) plus WRs Hill (15 catches / 3 TDs) and Watkins (15 TDs / one TD), plus excellent depth. KC enters on a 12-game winning streak (including a 3-0 run last postseason) but I liked the Pats' chances as about a Td underdog with Cam leading the offense. Now, although the price has risen to double-digits, it's hard NOT to be more cautious. Still, it's worth a small play on a Belichick-coached team as an underdog!
Good luck...Larry

MLB | Yankees vs Rays
Play on: Yankees -144 at sportsbook
Monday MLB Free play. My selection is on New York over Tampa Bay at 8:07 pm et on Monday.
I'll back the Yankees in the opener of their ALDS against the Rays. Gerrit Cole gets the start for New York. He was terrific in his start against the Indians last round and has now worked exactly seven innings in four straight outings, allowing a grand total of just four earned runs and 15 hits over that stretch. The Rays will turn to their ace Blake Snell after he silenced the Blue Jays bats in his Wild Card round start. That was a favorable matchup for Snell but this is not. While I think there may be some series value with the Rays moving forward, here in the opener I look for the Yankees to gain the upper hand. Take New York (8*).

The set-up: The Rays went 8-2 vs. the Yanks in the regular season, but I think they're going to stumble here in the opener of this ALCS. Both teams come in off sweeps of their Wildcard opponents. New York's Gerrit Cole (7-3, 2.84 ERA) allowed two runs and struck out 13 in his victory over the Tribe. Cole has now allowed just five earned runs over his last five games.
The pick: Blake Snell (4-2, 3.24) allowed seven runs over his last five starts for the Rays. Snell was sharp in his win over the Jays, allowing one hit over 5.1 innings, but I expect him to have his hands full with this healthy and hard-hitting New York line-up. Snell has the propensity to give up the long-ball, which clearly doesn't bode well facing this talented opposing line-up. Look for New York to ride Cole's big game to a solid win in Game 1.
This is a 1* FREE PLAY on the New York Yankees.
