Al Cimaglia: Meadowlands Early Pick 4 Analysis

    November 13, 2020 | By Al Cimaglia
The Meadowlands has a 13-race card ready to go tonight. The 0.50 Early Pick 4 begins in Race 6. The sequence has a $50,000 guaranteed pool with a 15% takeout and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

    Race 6

1-Dixie Star N (7/2)-Back from YR after facing better there and drops into same class as last win on 9/11. Had issues in previous 2 races and will toss both starts. Should be ready for a big try versus this crew.
2-Tango Dancer N (3-1)-Faded down the lane after getting on the engine and cutting the mile. That was a nice effort after being off almost 6 weeks and now Dunn takes the lines. This mare is similar to #5 but price probably won't be as good.
6-Twinsburg (9/2)-Back to the Big M after a couple of dull tries at Yonkers. Has been in the money in 4 of 5 starts here with 2 wins which were at this level. Looks like a player, Tetrick takes a spin and might be over bet.

    Race 7

3-McMatters (6-1)-Three-year-old has had breaking issues and was also facing tough company in the Midwest. Hoosier invader draws well for 1st start in new barn. Could surprise at a square price if Scotty Z keeps him trotting.
6-Moveoutofmyway K (8-1)-Taking a swing this colt fires hot off the bench. Per Engblom has been trying to fix this Muscle Maassive colt for about 2 months and Dunn takes the lines after qualifying him on 11/7. This is 2nd time Lasix and did earn >$115k in 2019.
10-Fortune Starlet (3-1)-Returns from Canada in sharp form but is stuck with post 10. Knows how to win here and Gingras can work a trip from the 2nd tier.

    Race 8

1-Alkippe (3-1)-Rolled home from post 9 last week versus this kind. Paced the back half in 55.2 but can also race near the top of the stack. No need to overthink this one, best to consider an encore.
6-Arnie's Angel (9/2)-Fits with this kind and deserves respect but is trip dependent. Chances for a picture go up with an alert start and a lively pace.
7-Pretty Image (8-1)-Here's another who was passing foes down the lane. Makes 3rd Big M start tonight and could be sitting on big try at a juicy price.

    Race 9

3-All Champy (7/2)-One of a few who drop and Dave Miller has driven in the past 2 starts. Beat the NW14000L5 from the 8 hole here, in the slop on 10/16. Should like the company and this race could set up nicely for 2nd win in 3 Big M starts.
5-HL Revadon (3-1)-Drops after some sharp tries to finish 2nd in last 3. The Landy barn has 3 wins in 12 starts in the last 30 days. This could be a drop and pop situation.
6-Chiplosive (8-1)-Willing to forgive the last effort, broke slowly and was facing better. Should be forwardly placed this time and could be overlooked at the windows. Looks like a live price play and this post draw shouldn't hurt.

    0.50 Early Pick 4

    1,2,6/3,6,10/1,6,7/3,5,6
    Total Bet=$40.50

Jeff Siegel's National Best Plays for Friday, Nov. 13, 2020

      November 13, 2020

Jeff Siegel’s National Best Plays for Friday, November 13, 2020

      *
Laurel Park Third Race – Post time: 1:24 ET
      10 – Moma Tiger (6-1)

Three-year-old Smiling Tiger filly from multiple graded stakes winner Proposed makes her debut in a soft maiden special weight extended sprint for fillies and mares and may be capable of pulling off a mild surprise in a race that looks substandard on paper. A series of fast drills at Penn National for a capable of outfit leads us to believe she is fit and ready, so at 6-1 on the morning line there should be ample value available for a bit of a gamble.

      *

Laurel Park Seventh Race – Post time: 3:24 ET
      7 – Hello Hot Rod (9/5)

Those playing the Stronach-5 should strongly consider this 2-year-old as a single in this maiden sprint over seven furlongs. The son of Mosler ran a winning race in defeat when closing stoutly to be second two weeks ago while more than five lengths clear of the rest, and with today’s extra furlong to work with and with that bit of experience behind him, the B. Russell-trained colt looks ready to graduate.

      *

Churchill Downs Tenth Race – Post time: 5:36 ET
      8 – Gagetown (4-1)

Debuting Exaggerator colt sports an interesting series of works for top trainer B. Cox and looks like a live item in this maiden special weight six furlong dash for 2-year-olds. There aren’t any flashy times on the tab but a :59 4/5 breezing drill at Ellis Park just five days ago catches the eye, and with one of the stable’s main guys F. Geroux taking the call we suspect this colt has plenty of talent. At 4-1 on the morning line this half-brother to Grade-1 winner Include Betty is worth consideration in the win pool and in rolling exotic play.

        Brian Nadeau's Daily Picks

        Aqueduct - Race #2
#1 Allied Invasion Stalker was a good 2nd for lesser last time, goes off the Kantarmaci claim (25%), and meets a crew there for the taking; look out.
#7 Pier Forty MCL winner steps up for Noda, who can do no wrong, though 5-2 while facing winners seems a tad on the underlaid side; second-best.
#2 Lost in Rome The best of the speed will be in front early, and the drop will help too, though there is plenty of pace to his outside; mixed signals here.
Race Summary That 7-2 ML on the pick seems very fair, as his run last time fits with these and he now goes for a sharp new barn that can move them up, so play him to win and place, and especially in the early Pk5, and to kick off the early Pk4 as well, since a win in a wide open race would add plenty of value to both sequences.
        Aqueduct - Race #4
#6 Brees Bayou Stalker caches a race loaded with speed and a favorite who may be tough to trust, so if he can bounce back from the dud last time he's going to be in with a chance; can make amends.
#8 Vermont Billy Odds-on favorite will be bet off the board on the MSW drop, but that debut 6th wasn't terrible, and he cost 475k too, so to see him in for 20k off just one start isn't ideal; backwheel time.
#7 Warfront Tiger Outside presser needs to settle a bit or he'll be in trouble late, but this post helps, and he's shown some consistent form on the dirt, and the price will be right; exotics appeal, maybe more.
Race Summary The price will be right on the 6, and, aside from the 8, there's no one here to fear, so give him a look in all the slots, and especially in the early Pk5/Pk4 as well, since budget players will be on the favorite, which means a win by the pick would play a lot longer than the tote might suggest.
        Aqueduct - Race #6
#9 Pategory One Sharp MSW winner did it against open foes at Parx, not meets NYB runners, drew well, and has a ton of upside off just three starts; call right back.
#2 Blackjack Davey Underlay keeps burning money and finding one or a few better, was just a flat 5th with no excuse, and will be overbet once again; just not seeing it.
#10 Farragut Versatile sort cuts back a hair and has some solid form, but like the chalk he's usually a supporting actor, and he'll be overbet here too; tread lightly.
Race Summary That 6-1 ML seems very inviting on the pick, as his win last time was strong, he goes for a very solid Guerrero barn, and has been a new horse since blinkers went on, so play him in all the slots and especially the late Pk5/Pk4 as well, since he could get overlooked, even though he fits nicely with these on paper.

          #5
          Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

          Laurel Park - Race #3
#5 Peace With Honor Ran on well at a price last time out, and she has some pace to sit a bit closer to the splits this time around. ML offering would be appealing enough.
#10 Moma Tiger Brings a couple of bullet works with her to this debut run, and there isn't a ton of proven form on paper lined up in this one. Chance on debut for a cold barn.
#1 Cool Stuff Underlay seems like the one to beat off the Monmouth form, but she's moving into open company for this one after proving no threat in a slow race.
Race Summary Peace With Honor owns a couple of races that would probably be good enough to score with these, and she has better positional pace than she showed behind that quick pace last out.
          Laurel Park - Race #6
#3 Spikes Shirl Price player is worth a look with the heavy chalk drawn to his inside, and this guy's recent sprint races stack up nicely enough on his best day.
#2 Lewisfield Hit or miss form is a mild concern at what figures to be a short price, and although he's the most likely winner, I can't dive in at a short number when he's quite likely sitting on a regression in form today -- he rarely backs up the big ones.
#6 Lost in Limbo The dirt form is there for him to finish from off the pace for a piece. He'll need to avoid taking a step back off the big run last time out, but otherwise he's there.
Race Summary Spikes Shirl has dirt form that isn't out of the question here, and getting back on dry land may help the cause this time around.
          Laurel Park - Race #8
#7 Sound Off Might offer a playable price in this spot from off the pace, and he has held his own with some pretty good groups in recent starts.
#6 Air on Fire Forward player has a little bit of versatility, and he probably offers a better number this time around after the dull run at even money.
#5 Nomo Ron Just posted a score with similar last time out, and his tactical ability gives him a chance to sit another really nice trip near the top.
Race Summary Sound Off is in pretty reliable form right now and just needs a fair pace to kick it. He's probably going to get a bit overlooked again in this spot.

            Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

            The Meadows - Race #2
#1 JAHAN HANOVER Slowed by single-file alignment, lack of live cover in latest.
#2 MASTER CONRAD Couldn’t reach the favorite in upset bid, gets Wrenn.
#5 SHIPSHAPE Led until late in second start off 8-month layoff.
Race Summary Jahan Hanover unwound with a strong first-over bid in the third quarter, had to go around stalled cover and just missed in a photo finish while widest. Play 1-2 and 1-5 exactas.
            Yonkers - Race #1
#5 HIGHVIEW CONALL N Projects ideal trip, fits well on best, had excuses in last pair.
#1 AMRCANBOOTSCOOTA A Speed, rail and 10 first- or second-place finishes in 15 starts this year.
#7 P H KENNY Loves to win, draws outside, value remains in repeat attempt.
Race Summary Highview Connall N is proven at this level but he broke stride before the start last week and made two moves against an odds-on runaway the race prior. Looks like he can work out a pocket trip and spring a mild surprise if he does.
            Woodbine-Mohawk Park - Race #5
#1 WATCH MY LUCK Overdue for some better racing luck, might find it in this field.
#4 JUST MY SHADOW Rallied for a pair of thirds recently, moves outside in.
#10 VILLAGE JAMIE Took money, led until stretch, held third, post the worry.
Race Summary Have to believe Watch My Luck is a wake-up candidate with major post relief in her second try at this level. She meets many of the same rivals in lieu of her 27th lifetime victory. Play a 1-4-10 exacta box.

              Jerry Shottenkirk's Daily Picks

Gulfstream Park West - Race #6
#4 Black Hope Stopped going long on turf last time and undoubtedly welcomes the return to a dirt sprint; was second in two races leading up to his latest and can return to good form.
#5 Siesta Moon Pressed early and quit after sharing in some gaudy fractions; does better from just off the lead.
#8 Pricey Victory Didn't get the lead and stopped last time; can press any of these early and could return to the same courage he showed a couple races back.
Race Summary Black Hope can roll on the main track and can get back to a contending position here; throw out his latest and you have a solid runner.
Gulfstream Park West - Race #7
#9 Can't Buy Love Her only turf run was a three-length score at Gulfstream and tired under difference circumstances in her last her two -- once going long on turf, once in the slop on the main track.
#7 Fouzia Set the pace and held on for third in a $400 grander at Kentucky Downs last out; broke her maiden at GP two back and will press throughout.
#2 Turn It On Her only turf appearance produced a win in which she was clear throughout; didn't fire on an off track last time but is back to her prefer surface.
Race Summary Can't Buy Love is back to a turf sprint and proved her ability at that distance by running clear late; fits with these.
Gulfstream Park West - Race #8
#3 Went West Fleet colt has two wins and two seconds after spending his first two races running for Jason Servis and his next two for Kelly Breen. Louie Roussel takes over and and is capable of getting him back to the winner's circle.
#5 As Seen On Tv Was third in the G2 Fountain Of Youth and tired badly in three stakes since; also is entered in a stakes race on Millions Preview Day ( Saturday) and has a much better shot here.
#1 Frosted Grace Has been right in in most of his starts but hasn't won in eight tries this year; has been in some fast races and should be considered.
Race Summary Went West has shown he's a solid sprinter in only four career starts, can mix it up with any of these early, benefits from an inside post and can show the late energy to prevail.

                  Play: Iowa -3.5 (-110)
Iowa is 5-0 SU and 3-1-1 ATS in this series and should be able to run the ball at will against the Gophers' porous front seven. The Hawkeyes are averaging 5.0 yards per rush attempt this season against teams that would combine to allow just 4.4 yards per rush play to a mediocre ground attack.
Meanwhile, Minnesota's defense is allowing 7.3 yards per rush attempt to opposing offenses that would combine to average 5.0 yards per rush play against a mediocre stop unit. In its lone home game this season, the Gophers gave up 253 rushing yards at 8.2 yards per carry!
Iowa will be able to impose its will on the ground and the Hawkeyes are a profitable 17-6 ATS in their last 23 games as road favorites. With Minnesota standing at 3-7-1 ATS as a home underdog under head coach P.J. Fleck, lay the points with the Hawkeyes and invest with confidence.

We beat the line move on this one which is always good, now just need to cash. Brazil has cruised through their first two matches with a combined 9-2 scoreline. They won the Copa America last year covering this number in four of six matches, although one of the ones they failed to a cover was a 0-0 draw against Venezuela. Brazil dominated the match though and were able to get off 19 shots while holding Venezuela to just 6 and that was without Neymar who is fresh off a hat trick. This has 3-0 or 3-1 written all over it.

NUMBER ONE DUDE looks to be a very good contender. Earnings per start at the distance/surface is a very good handicapping key. This one ranks at the top in this field. Could provide positive gains based on very good recent speed figures with an average of 73. Has been running strongly lately and should be up on the front end early on. WINNERS LUCK - This equine could upset this bunch at a big price. His 68 average has this gelding with among the best speed figures in this race. J B'S LEGACY - Had one of the most competitive speed figures of this group of horses in his last race. Can't overlook the connections here, a 18 winning percentage, one of the strongest at getting into the winner's circle.

                              Stronach 5 - Race #3 - Post: 4:24pm - Maiden Claiming - 8.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $18,000 Class Rating: 64

                              Rating:

                              #5 HINTING (ML=7/2)
                              #2 ELUSIVE MOTION (ML=3/1)

HINTING - This gelding is number one in earnings per start. Check out this thoroughbred before the race. Merryman drops him down to this class. You don't need too much more from the pp lines to figure that this horse is in a good spot at this level. Merryman gets a break on this horse carrying 6 lbs less than last out. This certainly could make the difference right here. ELUSIVE MOTION - Maiden is switching to the main track, and may not have liked the turf last out. Has a good chance to win for the 1st time.

                              Vulnerable Contenders: #10 BOURBON AGOGO (ML=5/2), #11 GOOFY BOY (ML=6/1), #8 NICKY BEAR (ML=8/1),

BOURBON AGOGO - Tough to put your dough on the win end of any animal that finishes second and third as often as this horse does. The speed fig last time around the track doesn't fit very well in this race when I look at the class rating of today's race. Mark this mount as a vulnerable competitor. GOOFY BOY - This horse likes to be there at the wire, but doesn't usually win. Forget the top spot. Not probable that the speed fig he earned on Oct 15th will hold up in this event. NICKY BEAR - 8/1 is too short of a reward to take on most any entrant that has run poorly in back to back outings.

GUEST COMMENTARY: The Turf Man - HINTING - This gelding is moving from the turf to the dirt. Looking for his first win, this is a positive move.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Bet on #5 HINTING to win if we can get at least 2/1 odds
