3-Unit Play. Take #864 Arizona State (-2.5) over San Diego State (10 p.m.)
I like this San Diego State team. They have picked up where they left off last season, winning their first four games of the year. However, they are stepping up in class here and SDSU is simply not as good as they were last year. They lost three starters, including their two best guys in Malachi Flynn and Yanni Wetzell. I think that Arizona State is a little better than they've played. They are getting back No. 3 scorer, Alonzo Verge, and that gives them three guys scoring at least 15 points per game. They will likely be without leading rebounder Marcus Bagley. But size isn't a problem for the Sun Devils, who have four other forward standing 6-9 that can pick up the slack. ASU has the best player on the floor, Remy Martin, and a very talented freshman in Josh Christopher. As long as they defend they should be able to stay ahead of this number and close out this game in the second half. This was going to be a bigger play. But I'm reading the line movement so I backed it down a bit. That said, I'm still not giving up my side as I think that Arizona State is obviously the better team.
1-Unit Play. Take #854 Oregon State (-14.5) over Portland (8 p.m.)
After back-to-back losses the Beavers need something positive to happen. Their two losses were by a total of just seven points and they need to get a win here. Portland is pretty terrible. They are 3-1 on the season but they have not played a team rated higher than No. 295. And that team, Seattle, beat the Pilots by 12 points at Portland. Oregon State is awful. But they still have a higher level of talent than Terry Porter's squad. I'll call for a rare blowout from the Beavers.
1-Unit Play. Take #7604 East Carolina (-13.5) over North Florida (5 p.m.)
I'm going to keep chopping with East Carolina. I think that this is one of the more improved teams in the country. They were finally able to retain some of their talent and keep it from transferring. The results have been solid. They are off to a 4-0 start and three of their wins have been against teams better than North Florida. UNF has gotten rolled by double digits in all but one of their games, a home loss on Monday to in-state foe Florida Atlantic. These look like two teams going in opposite directions.
1-Unit Play. 5-POINT TEASER: Take #862 South Dakota State (-3.5) over North Dakota State (9 p.m.) AND Take #7604 East Carolina (-8.5) over North Florida (5 p.m.)
