I almost pulled the trigger on Bryant yesterday in the first of back-to-back home games for the Bulldogs against conference rival Wagner. We would have covered by a mere 1/2-point as Bryant won 74-62 as a 11.5-point favorite. I know it's not easy beating the same team twice in back-to-back games, but I like that we are getting a much smaller number in the rematch.
This is a talented Bryant team that went on the road in their first game of the season and nearly upset Syracuse as a 22.5 point dog, losing by a final score of 84-85. Bryant as a program is on the right track. When head coach Jared Grasso took over for the 2018-19 season, the Bulldogs were coming off a 3-28 campaign. He got them to 10 wins in his first year on the job and improved to 15 wins last year.
In yesterday's win over Wagner the Bulldogs got whatever they wanted offensively, shooting 58% on their 2-point attempts. They also attempted 29 free throws to Wagners' 9. The only thing that kept the Seahawks in the game is they had a ridiculous 24 offensive rebounds. That's going to be hard to replicate and it's not like all those second chances paid off.
Another thing to note is this second game of a back-to-back is all about who has the fresher legs and I thought Bryant did the better job of spreading out their minutes yesterday. They had just two players log more than 30 mins, where Wagner had 4 different guys at 30+ mins. Give me Bryant -8!
