The Iowa Hawkeyes opened the season 6-0 SU & 5-1 ATS with their only non-cover coming on a banked 3-pointer from half court at the buzzer. They returned all five starters this year, including the likely Wooden Award winner in Luka Garza. He is surrounded by 3-point shooting, which makes the Hawkeyes one of the toughest teams to defend in the country.
Iowa did lose 88-99 to No. 1 Gonzaga for their first defeat of the season last time out. That loss should have them humbled and get them to play better defense tonight against the Purdue Boilermakers in their Big Ten opener. They want revenge from losing both meetings with Purdue last season and should bounce back in a big way.
Purdue comes in overvalued off three straight wins over Indiana State, Ohio State and Notre Dame. They beat Ohio State when they were missing a couple key players due to injury. And they beat a bad Notre Dame team. Keep in mind they lost to Clemson and Miami earlier this season, while Iowa beat UNC by 13. This will be by far the Boilermakers' toughest test of the season tonight.
Iowa is 12-0 ATS in its last 12 games following an ATS loss. The Hawkeyes are 11-1 ATS in their last 12 games following a SU loss. Iowa is 19-5-2 ATS in its last 26 home games. The Under is worthy of a move on Tuesday. With the NBA season tipping back off and the lack of fans in the stands, the energy level won't be as high for some teams. Given the hype for this game typically to not having it at all now, this should be a game where both teams come out with some rust and lack of spark.
