My first look on NBA Christmas Day games is to the Under. Concentration can be called into question on this day because players probably were with their families celebrating the holidays. This matchup fits other handicapping elements to the Under in addition to having an early start time. The Bucks had the best defensive rating in the NBA last season, holding foes to 102.5 points per 100 possessions. Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton are excellent defensive players in addition to being high scorers. Antetokounmpo was the Defensive Player of the Year last season. Now the Bucks added another upper tier defender, point guard Jrue Holiday. So it wouldn't shock if the Bucks' defense was even better this season. Golden State was 28th in scoring last season, averaging 106.3 points a game. The Warriors were held to 99 points in a 26-point loss to the Nets in their opening game this past Tuesday. A key takeaway from that game was the Warriors' lack of good ball movement. Not only are they without Klay Thompson, but Draymond Green is out, too. Stephen Curry just doesn't have enough offensive help to make the Warriors a high-scoring team.

The Brooklyn Nets are a scary team now that both Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant are healthy to start the season. The Nets rolled to a 125-99 win over the Warriors on Tuesday behind 26 from Irving and 22 from Durant in a game that they led by as many as 38 points. Both players got to sit out the 4th quarter. Brooklyn also has some tremendous role players back from last year in LeVert, Harris, Jordan, Dinwiddie and Allen. This is one of the deepest teams in the NBA. It's a bit of a letdown spot for the Celtics after Jayson Taytum banked in a 3-pointer in the closing seconds to knock off the Bucks on Tuesday. The Celtics are still without Kemba Walker and lost Gordon Hayward in free agency. I don't think they have what it takes to hang with the Brooklyn here. Give me the Nets.

Juwan Howard has the Michigan Wolverines playing some impressive basketball this season. They are off to a 6-0 start this season with five wins by double-digits. And they beat Penn State 62-58 in their Big Ten opener. Now the Wolverines are rested and ready to go after last playing on December 13th.
It looks like it's going to be another poor year in Lincoln for head coach Fred Hoiberg and the Huskers. They just don't have much talent or chemistry, and that has shown in their 4-4 start this season that has included a 1-5 ATS record in lined games. They lost by double-digits to Georgia Tech (64-75), Creighton (74-98) and Wisconsin (53-67) in their last three games outside of Doane.
Michigan is 12-1 SU & 9-4 ATS in its last 13 meetings with Nebraska as Big Ten opponents. Amazingly, 10 of those 12 wins have come by double-digits, including each of the last four. Michigan won 82-58 and 79-68 in their two meetings last year. It should be more of the same in their first matchup of 2020-21.
Nebraska is 1-10 ATS in its last 11 games after scoring 60 points or less in its previous game. The Huskers are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games overall. Nebraska is 2-10 ATS in its last 12 home games, including 0-7 ATS in its last seven games as a home underdog. Bet Michigan Friday.

The Key: The Minnesota Golden Gophers have shown me enough to know they can hang with the Iowa Hawkeyes today and possibly pull the upset. Their 90-82 win over Saint Louis last time out against a previously unbeaten Billikens team showed a lot. And now the Gophers are 7-1 this season with their only loss coming to Illinois. Minnesota has had more time to get ready for this game having last played on December 20th, while Iowa last played on December 22nd in a home win over Purdue. The home team is 6-1 SU & 5-2 ATS in the last 7 matchups with the only road win coming 58-55 by Iowa last year. The Gophers want to avenge their two defeats to the Hawkeyes last year and will be hungry with a Top 5 Iowa team coming to town. Minnesota is 11-2 ATS in its last 13 games against teams who make 8 or more 3-pointers per game. Take Minnesota.

I get this is not the most ideal spot for the Hawkeyes, playing their first true road game of the season on Christmas Day against a pretty big rival in Minnesota. With that said, I just don't feel that the books are giving this Iowa team the respect they deserve. It's been that way all season. The only game the Hawks haven't covered is against Gonzaga and they played about as poorly as they could play and still hung around with an exceptional Bulldogs team.
I know Minnesota is coming off a 90-82 upset win at home over St. Louis as a 2-point dog, but I see a Gophers team that has allowed 80 or more points in 3 of their last 4 games facing one of the most efficient offensive teams in the country in Iowa. The Hawkeyes did not play anywhere close to their best in their last game against Purdue and still won by 15. I know it was on the road, but the Gophers only Big Ten game was a 27-point loss at Illinois. I would be a lot more scared of backing Iowa in this spot if it was going to be a sold out Williams Arena but that's not the case. Bet the Hawkeyes -6.5!
