Al Cimaglia: Pompano Park Pick 4 Analysis

Tonight, Pompano Park makes history by guaranteeing a $100,000 Pick 5 pool for the first time. There is a $19,215 carryover in the Pick 5 and that sequence starts in Race 1. The 0.50 Pick 4 begins in Race 6, it has a $15,000 guaranteed pool and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 6

4-Lyra (3-1)-This mare has faced Open company at Batavia Downs and tuned up against the $10K claimers here on 12/22. Has the gate speed to get the pocket behind #8 and take her chances down the lane.
8-Happy Heart (7/5)-Has been in fine form in all 3 PPk starts and comes off a gate to wire win in last. Draws poorly but Hennessey should light this mare up when the wings fold and try to make every call a winning one.

Race 7

5-Aberdeen Seelster (7-1)-Makes 2nd start off a 12/15 claim for the Lareau barn. Has been consistently cashing checks but hasn't taken a picture in a long time. Will swing for a price, looking for a stalking trip and a rally down the lane.
6-Sue's Night Out (7/2)-Claimed in last and came 2nd to tonight's 3/2 program favorite. Hennessey could look to get on the engine with the big chalk and Sue may benefit from the pocket trip.
8-Glenferrie Blade A (3/2)-Just got up versus this kind in last as the even money favorite. Should be right there at the wire with a decent trip.

Race 8

2-Come Get The Cash (6-1)-Just missed in last 2 starts and now bumps up a notch but should benefit from this post. Looks like a player in 4th start of the meet.
6-Ask Me Ifi Care (6-1)-Winner in 2 of last 3 at this class, now could offer a better price and should benefit from a lively pace. If Micallef can find some live cover, chances for success go up.
7-Prairie Westerngal (5/2)-Beat half this field in last start and may have to work harder to get a good early seat. Has won 4 of 6 at the Pomp this year and finished 2nd in the other 2 starts. Looks like a major player again at a short price.

Race 9

1-Lady Driver (5/2)-Will toss last from the 8-hole and now Hennessey returns. Should be on the engine or in the pocket. The Huff barn is batting 27% winners in the last 30 days. This mare is a threat and should be bet hard.
6-New Number Who Dis (12-1)-This gal has won 9 of 36 in 2020 and has 5 wins in 17 starts at the Pomp. Needs the right trip and there could be a few leavers. Has a shot to surprise if pace is hot and if put into striking range by the 3/4 pole.
8-Rockin Serena (3-1)-Has come 1st or 2nd in 22 of 37 Pompano starts and has the gate speed to be put in play early. The Wrenn barn is going well and her pilot knows how to work a trip for this 6-year-old.

Delta Downs - Race #3

#4 Kaitlyn's Court	She didn't show much in the local debut, but that two-back run at EvD was decent enough going long to suggest she might be able to make a dent here at a square price.
#1 A. K. A Grams	Showed nothing at a huge price in the debut run, but she'll plunge in class for this second start while racing out of the Amoss barn for the first time. Quick improvement wouldn't surprise.
#3 Beaux Tox	She only chased briefly in the career debut, but that might leave her in a forward spot on the move to a mile. Pedigree says yes to the added ground.
Race Summary	Kaitlyn's Court would seem playable at something like the 5/1 ML offering in a very soft spot, even for this level. Her two-back run seems as good as anything else in here.

Delta Downs - Race #6

#3 Ultimate Force	Was bet down as the 6/5 favorite in her debut run, but she was only up close for a short time before giving way in the slop. Perhaps she has something better to offer tonight at an improved number.
#5 She a Hot Mess	Finished well in front of the top choice when they met in that debut run, and she would seem tough here if able to hold that form into the second start.
#9 Fasthappy	Even debut run might set her up for something a bit better with that race under her belt, and this is not a very deep race for the local MSW level.
Race Summary	Ultimate Force can probably produce something better with that debut run behind her, and although she didn't live up to her billing that day, she might be capable of better here.

Delta Downs - Race #7

#2 Diplomatic Shift	He might offer a nice number on the board while dropping in class for this one, and his ceiling may not be quite as high as some of these, he seems like a good fit at the level and should get a nice trip from close range.
#7 December Seven	Can't ignore this Amoss runner on the drop, but that wasn't a very encouraging first start off the claim, and they're willing to let him go for less than half of what they paid for him in October. The one to beat -- but dicey.
#1 Much Class	His form can be hit or miss at times, but his best stuff stacks up favorably with these. Tactical type rolled for this price at Hawthorne a few starts back.
Race Summary	Diplomatic Shift catches what might be a vulnerable favorite in December Seven, and he's a good fit at this level with a solid tracking trip in store.

#7 SINGULAR CASE	Exits fast heat, hit board in prior pair.
Race Summary	Ampersand faded through solid fractions while a pair of sub 2-to-1 favorites finished 1-2. He figures up-close throughout today and offers fair value at 7-2 on the morning line.

Northfield Park - Race #5

#9 STORM'S COMING	Steady check-getter, troubled second in latest, strong play.
#5 SJ'S SWING STICK	Finished 1-1/2 length behind Storm's Coming.
#4 STILL A THRILL	Speed, solid numbers, won in traffic-marred race, will be underlay.
Race Summary	Taking a stand against Still A Thrill (3-1), who has a breaking habit and sprung a front-end upset at Dayton two starts back after two of the favorites went off stride. Storm's Coming overcame an early break and slow pace to finish second from post 8, so let's make him today's Best Bet despite second-tier starting spot.

#4 Levanto	Runs well when he's close to the lead and is in a good spot for that here; in good form and can stick around for a major share.
Race Summary	Van Damme has a solid late move on most occasions and can make up ground vs. these; one to hold off.

The rider and conditioner combination have a positive ROI when they unite.

GRACEYGAB - Difficult to keep chasing this kind of 'bridesmaid' horse. Mediocre speed fig last time out at Penn National at 1 mile 70 yards. Don't feel this less than sharp equine will improve too much in today's event.
