While the Hornets aren't going to impress anyone offensively, this is a team that plays quality defense. Ranking 12th in points per possession, and 5th in defensive turnover percentage. This squad has four players ranking in the Top 78 percentile in offensive assist percentage. So they are making quality passes and getting solid shots.
New Orleans is a bit overpriced here in our eyes. The Pelicans do one thing better than anyone in the league, grab offensive rebounds and keeping opponents from doing the same. Leading the league in both categories. But overall this team really struggles shooting from the floor. Can't trust this offense to lay this type of number against a good defensive squad.

North Dakota State started the season 0-5, losing to superior competition in each case. The Bison have righted the ship facing lesser teams and despite the unimpressive 4-6 overall ledger, they're 2-0 in the Summit. This is also the first home game this season for North Dakota State. That's kind of amazing this far into the season, but I have to think they'll be excited to be in their own digs, even with nobody on hand to watch the proceedings. As for Omaha, they're 2-10 with the only wins by a whisker against not much. They got knocked around in two home games last weekend and have now lost five straight. The Mavericks can't shoot a lick, sitting at #293 KenPom on both their twos and threes. I expect the more energized team here to be the Bison and while it's not a cheap price, I like North Dakota State to win by doubles and I'm going to spot the points.

The Don Haskins Center will welcome fans in for the first time this season as Conference USA-leading Rice arrives for a two-game set. The Owls swept a two-game set from UT-San Antonio last weekend, averaging 89.5 point per game. Rice comes in 8-2 but its record is misleading since it hasn’t beaten any quality opponents. Like Scott Pera teams, they’ll get up and down, but that may be a problem against a superior team. Senior guard Souley Boum is C-USA’s third-leading scorer (19.3 ppg) and the Miners have a much more talented roster. They’ve faced a far tougher schedule, battling Saint Mary’s, Arizona and Arizona State. Fresno State transfer Bryson Williams, who followed coach Rodney Terry from Fresno State, should play a big role and being able to play in front of a home crowd for the first time is likely to provide a boost. Given that this matchup will favor the team that shoots the 3-ball better and the Miners are longer, stronger and more familiar with their surroundings, this should end in a double-digit victory for the home team.
