Mahoning Valley Race Course - Race #4 - Post: 2:08pm - Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $13,500 Class Rating: 65

    Rating:

    #1 DOUGS MORNING PICK (ML=3/1)
    #5 POWERS OUT (ML=10/1)

DOUGS MORNING PICK - Faced tougher last out at Mahoning Valley Race Cour. Based on Equibase class ratings, this is a weaker field, so I will put this one on my list of strong contenders. You always have to be on the prowl for profit making jock/handler combos; we have it right here. Forgive the out of the money finish on the off track last race out. Under better track conditions, has a shot in this race. Earnings per race is something that I feel can be a crucial factor. This thoroughbred is ranked at the very top in this bunch. POWERS OUT - Have to like this gelding today. If you take a look at his PP lines you see a definite trend, getting closer with each race. This gelding is in fine form. Ended up third on December 22nd.

    Vulnerable Contenders: #4 RIDGE WEST (ML=2/1), #3 FLINT CORN (ML=5/2), #2 CALIFORNIA SUN (ML=4/1),

RIDGE WEST - Ran his best speed rating last time out, but the 'off conditions' may have had something to do with it. FLINT CORN - This mount will almost certainly be way back as this field crosses the wire. CALIFORNIA SUN - This gelding hasn't had any recent good results in short distance contests. Difficult to wager on him in this race.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Put your money on #1 DOUGS MORNING PICK on the nose if you can get odds of 3/2 or more
    EXACTA WAGERS: Box [1,5]

    TRIFECTA WAGERS:

    SUPERFECTA WAGERS: None

      Race 1 - SA - 6.5f on the Dirt. Purse: $19000 Class Rating: 84

FOR ACCREDITED WEST VIRGINIA-BRED FOUR YEAR OLDS AND UPWARD WHICH HAVE STARTED FOR A CLAIMING PRICE OF $5,000 OR LESS SINCE JANUARY 20, 2019. WEIGHT, 124 LBS. NON-WINNERS OF A RACE SINCE NOVEMBER 20 ALLOWED 2 LBS. A RACE SINCE SEPTEMBER 20 ALLOWED 4 LBS.

      RECOMMENDED CHOICES
      # 3 CHARITABLE SPENNY 9/5
      # 6 CATCH MY CABOOSE 7/2
      # 1 SUPER GARNER 4/1
CHARITABLE SPENNY has a formidable shot to take this race. Displays the look of a lucrative play, averaging a solid 76 Equibase Speed Fig which is one of the most competitive in this field. Is a contender - given the 79 Equibase Speed Fig from his most recent race. CATCH MY CABOOSE - He must be carefully examined given the formidable speed figures. Has been running soundly lately and ought to be up on the lead early on. SUPER GARNER - Has a strong record at the distance and surface, which makes me favor this gelding. Has been running well lately and will most likely be close to the lead early on.

In college basketball for Wednesday night go right ahead and lay the points in this St. Joe's-George Mason meeting in Fairfax.

It is clear that the hiring of Billy Lange a couple of seasons ago on Hawk Hill is not quite generating the results that St. Joseph's alums are used to, as this year's Hawks team is 1-10 straight up.

On Monday night, St. Joseph's allowed the previously offensively-anemic La Salle Explorers to hang 90 points on them in their 10th loss of the season, 90-83 in a game that actually wasn't all that close since the Hawks had trailed by 21 points with under 4 minutes remaining.

George Mason's last home game came against that same La Salle team that went ballistic on Joey's, as the Patriots dumped the Explorers 75-42. True, George Mason went out on the road in their last game and got beat up by Rhode Island, but they are back home for this one and the last time they faced the Hawks was a home win and cover last March just before COVID-19 shut everything down.

The Patriots have won 3 in a row in this series and 6 of the last 7, while going 5-2 against the spread.

These are some dark days if you are a Hawks fans. St. Joseph's manta is "the Hawk will never die" and while that may be true, the Hawk will have to endure another lopsided loss.

Play the Pats minus the points.

          4* GEORGE MASON

Are the Atlanta Hawks ever going to play another game that lands Over the total?

Atlanta comes into this Wednesday night home date with the Detroit Pistons having landed Under the total in 9, count 'em, 9 straight games!

Tonight is the night I think we actually see that Under run get clipped, as the Detroit Pistons come to town having played their last pair of games Over the total and the Over for the Pistons on the road has cashed in in each of their last 5 on the highway. That road Over mark includes the season's first meeting with the Hawks back on December 28th when the teams played to a 128-120 final in a Hawks home win.

That series Over - the first of this season - pushed the series run to 3 in a row Over the total and 6 of the last 9 overall between the teams Over the total.

After 9 in a row Under, the streak ends tonight!

            Pistons-Hawks Over the total.

            3* DETROIT-ATLANTA OVER
