Cleveland posted back-to-back wins over the Nets, but they fell flat in last night's humbling 141-103 setback in Boston last night. Cleveland came into that game as the No. 1 defense in the league. I don't expect the Lakers to run up the score like that, especially with a much more high-profile contest at Philadelphia up next.
The pick: The Lakers didn't run up the score either in their 101-90 win at Chicago in their last outing and I expect a similar final combined score here as well. Consider the "under" as a great situational play in this contest.

I just can't help myself here with the Mavs as a home dog against the Nuggets. Dallas comes in off an ugly 108-133 loss as a 7-point favorite against the Rockets on Saturday, but note that was the second game of a back-to-back and the Mavs rested Porzingis in that one. He'll be back in action for this game at home against Denver and simply put Dallas should not be a dog at home here. Nugets have won 3 straight, including back-to-back road wins at Phoenix, but it has them way overvalued. Denver is just 9-22 ATS last 31 on the road after covering the spread in 2 or more consecutive games, while Mavs are 13-4 ATS last 17 off a home loss and a perfect 2-0 ATS this season off a loss of 20 or more. I will take my chances here with Iowa State as a 3-point home dog against Oklahoma State. At first glance you might wonder how a Cowboys team that is 9-4 is only a 3-point favorite here against a Cyclones team that is just 2-7 overall and winless at 0-5 in Big 12 play.
A big reason for the low price is the fact that Oklahoma State is expected to be without star freshman Cade Cunningham and potentially one of their top reserves in fellow freshman Rodel Walker. Cunningham is a massive loss, as he's by far the Cowboys No. 1 option on offense. Cunningham averages 17.8 ppg. The only other player in double-figures is Isaac Likekele at 11.8 ppg and Walker is 3rd on the team with 9.1 ppg.
I just have a hard time seeing either play after both were held out of Saturday's game at home against Baylor. Hard to believe they would miss a contest against the best team in the league and play 2 days later.
As for Iowa State, they will have fresh legs as they play their first game since Jan. 9. I expect a big effort regardless of who plays for OSU as they want to get that first conference win. Also, their 0-5 start has seen 4 of the losses come against West Virginia, Baylor, Texas and Texas Tech. Give me the Cyclones +3!
