My “Cutting Room Floor” plays are the situations I considered the closest to being worthy of investment but did not make the “final cut” for my official plays today for subscribers. The last play on my cut list in college basketball for Thursday is with Utah plus the points versus Arizona. Utah (7-7) has won two of their last three games are their 77-74 upset victory at Colorado as an 8.5-point underdog on Saturday. After playing their last three games on the road, the Utes return home for the first time since January 16th — and they have covered the point spread in four straight home games after playing their last three games on the road. They also have covered the point spread in 4 of their last 5 home games against teams with a winning record on the road. Arizona (13-4) has won four of five with their 71-50 win against California on Saturday as a 9.5-point favorite. The Wildcats have covered the point spread in two of their last three games — and they have failed to cover the point spread in 5 straight games after covering two of their last three. After playing their last three games at home, Arizona goes back on the road where they have failed to cover the point spread in 5 of their last 7 games away from home. Take Utah plus the points. I will take a shot here with Ohio State covering as a 5.5-point dog at Iowa. I just haven't been impressed with the Hawkeyes here of late. They avoided a 3rd straight loss with a 84-78 win at home against Michigan State on Tuesday, but given how bad the Spartans had played coming into that game, that was far from an impressive performance.
It's no secret that Luka Garza is a beast, but for Iowa to be a great team they got to shoot the ball well from deep. That's something they haven't done consistently of late. They were just 5-17 (29.4%) behind the 3-point line against the Spartans and in their previous home game against Indiana were 5-23 (21.7%). Considering the Buckeyes are No.1 in the Big Ten in 3P% defense, those struggles figure to continue.
Another key thing to note is just how good Ohio State has been on the road of late. Buckeyes have won 3 straight away from home and 6 of 7 overall. Those last 3 road wins coming in 3 of the toughest places to get a win in Rutgers, Illinois and Penn State.
You have to factor in the rest advantage for the Buckeyes in this game. Ohio State will be playing on 3 days of rest compared to just 1 day of rest for the Hawkeyes. Give me the Buckeyes +5.5!

Cincinnati wasn't playing well going 1-6 SU and ATS in its last seven games. And that was before COVID-19 struck its program. Now the Bearcats will be in action for the first time in 25 days having endured six postponements and countless lost practice time. Never mind not being in rhythm. The Bearcats aren't even sure of their rotation. Cincinnati coach John Brannen said he's expecting some of his walk-ons to not only see action, but log quality minutes. Temple lost 81-64 to Tulane at home this past Friday. There was a pregame tribute to the Owls' legendary former coach John Chaney. Perhaps their minds were in a fog, but the Owls didn't play well. Tulane also shot 50 percent from the floor. I'm anticipating the Owls to play much better helped by Cincinnati's short-handed and rusty situation.

The Temple Owls had a poor performance last time out with the death of legendary head coach John Chaney on their minds. Look for them to bounce back with a big effort today following their loss to Tulane on Sunday. They had won three of their previous four games with their only loss coming to Houston.
Now the Owls get to host a Cincinnati Bearcats team in turmoil. They haven't been able to play a game since January 10th due to COVID-19. And even before the shutdown, the Bearcats went 1-6 SU & 1-6 ATS in their last seven games overall. Then they spent most of the shutdown without even being able to conduct a team workout.
"We're getting through it, I hope to be through it in terms of player availability, but our guys' health is the most important thing." Cincinnati coach John Brannen said. "I told our walk-ons that everybody is going to be available right now because once we have the amount of players available to play games, we'll certainly do it."

Head coach Derek Kellogg had some good seasons at UMass and got the Sharks to the "Big Dance" in his first season at LIU (First Four loss) and has this year's team in a position to do so again in the current season.
