Two of the nations best offensive teams in the country will square off tonight, as the No. 9 ranked Iowa Hawkeyes visit the No. 3 ranked Michigan Wolverines. I'm not interested in the spread in this one. My money is on the OVER 155.
Both of these teams rank in the Top 10 in the nation in offensive efficiency at KenPom. Iowa is No. 1 and Michigan is No. 6. The Hawkeyes come in averaging 86.4 ppg on 48% shooting from the field and 40.3% from deep. Michigan is scoring 79.2 ppg on 50.2% shooting from the field and 39% from deep.
Just so happens the Wolverines last game was against Ohio State, who is No. 3 in offensive efficiency. A lot of people thought that was going to be low scoring and the total for that game was just 144. The two combined for 179 points in Michigan's 92-87 win.
I think we are going to see a similar offensive outburst in this one. Just look at the two meetings last year, the two combined for 194 points in the game at Michigan (total of 144) and 173 at Iowa (total 147).
OVER is 7-3 in Michigan's last 10 games vs a team with ai inning record. It's also 17-8-1 in Iowa's last 26 as a road dog and 13-5 in their last 18 on the road vs a team that's won more than 60% of their home games. Give me the OVER 155!

This is a free play on Under.
It's almost March, and at this time of year we expect to see more emphasis on defense. Historically that has been the case when these two teams have faced each other late in the season. The last two meetings went over the total, but both of those games were played much earlier in the season. The previous four meeting were in February or March, and all four of those games went under. These teams are both playing great defense, each allowing roughly 65 points per game over their last five overall. Iowa has gone under in five straight overall, and the under is 6-2 in Michigan's last eight overall.

The set-up: It's safe to say that these two teams don't like each other. As long as Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin are playing, then these two teams will always be considered the most fiercist of rivals. These teams played here two nights ago and the Pens won 3-2 in OT. I'm expecting a more wide-open contest here though and I look for this total to eclipse the posted number sooner, rather than later. Pittsburgh has won three straight. The Pens average 3.00 GPG and they allow 3.24.
The pick: The Capitals average 3.28 GPG, but they concede 3.39. A faster-paced game = more shots and more shots = more goals. Consider the "over" in this East Division matchup.

The Flames have the better numbers on the season, as when Ottawa has lost many times it has been in blowout fashion. But a closer look at the advanced stats of xG/60 we find these two teams being much closer than the line would suggest. That's especially true when we look at Power Play and Penalty Killing statistics. With Calgary being a sizable favorite in this one we get a nice payback with the host.

Sacramento is playing their worst basketball of the season right now. The Kings have lost 8 straight and it's hard for me to see them snapping out of their funk on the road, especially after just playing their hearts out against Brooklyn on Tuesday. Knicks are built to win games with their defense, but they should also be able to score here against an awful Sacramento defense. Kings have allowed 8 straight opponents to shoot 49% or better from the field and have allowed all 8 teams to score at least 118 points. Bet the Knicks -1.5!

The Predators brought their 'A' game in Detroit on Tuesday, securing a 2-0 victory - their second win in a row. That's notable as they've yet to notch three straight victories this season, failing to accomplish that feat on two different occasions previously. I certainly feel that a letdown could be in order for the Preds here and this quote speaks to that. "Everybody in the room felt good, felt confident after that huge win in Columbus, and I think it showed (Tuesday)," forward Eeli Tolvanen said. "All four lines were playing great, and we didn't give them much. Our offense was really good, our defense was good, and I think we played a really hard game." Meanwhile, this quote from Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin points to a sense of urgency they'll need to play with on Thursday. "We don't score enough, and we didn't make it hard enough on (Nashville goaltender Pekka Rinne)," Larkin said. "We had some good looks, but not many second or third opportunities." Despite a down cycle, the Wings have actually gone 4-3 against Nashville over the last three seasons. With this being their last game at home before heading out on the road for five straight, look for the Wings to play with a purpose on Thursday. We'll grab the extra goal as insurance. Take Detroit +1.5 goals (8*).
