I was really impressed with how well the 76ers played last night in Chicago, despite not having their two best players in Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons. While Simmons isn't expected to be back for tonight's game, Embiid is listed as probable. As for the Wizards, they could be down one of their best players in Bradley Beal. He was clearly bothered by his knee in their 112-127 loss at Memphis on Wednesday, so even if he plays, I don't think he's going to go off to the point needed to keep the Wizards in this game. Bet the 76ers -4!

Friday NBA Free play. My selection is on Memphis plus the points over Denver at 8:05 pm et on Friday.
The Grizzlies aren't getting much respect despite the fact that they've played above .500 basketball since February 10th, posting a solid 9-5 ATS record along the way. They catch the Nuggets in a bit of a flat spot here, with the All-Star break coming at perhaps the worst time. Denver had won four games in a row (SU and ATS) prior to the break but isn't in great position to continue that streak here. Note that the Nuggets are 0-8 ATS after posting consecutive double-digit wins over the last three seasons. Taking it further, they're 10-25 ATS coming off their last 35 double-digit victories. Denver's winning streak could be on borrowed time when you consider it has gone 14-25 ATS off two or more consecutive wins over the last two seasons. The Grizzlies are playing loose right now and feeling pretty good about themselves off Wednesday's rout of the Wizards. I'll grab all the points I can get with them on Friday. Take Memphis (8*).

The Spurs are off back-to-back "unders." That should change against Orlando though. After last night's game snuck over the number, the Magic have now seen four straight games top the total. Last meeting between these teams finished with 227 points. Including that result, the 'over' is 42-22-1 the past 65 San Antonio "non-conference" games. During that span, the Magic have seen the 'over' go 41-32-1 in their non-conf games. With Orlando's last five games averaging 229.8 points, I say this line proves to be too low. Consider the Over.

The Spurs just got some players back from injury over the All-Star Break and should improve in the immediate future. They rested Lebron James in that loss to the Kings on the 2nd of the back-to-back. The Lakers needed the rest more than most teams due to being without Anthony Davis, and Lebron was playing big minutes. They should come out of the break fresh and put away the Indiana Pacers pretty handily. This is a struggling Pacers team that is just 5-12 SU & 4-13 ATS in their last 17 games overall. They went 1-5 SU & 0-6 ATS in their final 6 games going into the break. Now they are getting too much respect from oddsmakers here against the Lakers once again. The Pacers are 0-8 ATS in their last 8 games as underdogs. Indiana is 0-7 ATS in its last 7 games against a team with a winning record. The Pacers are 0-4-1 ATS in their last 5 road matchups against the Lakers. Take Los Angeles.

The set-up: I think the Pacers are worth a second look in this spot. Both teams come out of the break on losing streaks. The Lakers have lost two in a row and they've struggled over the last month or so. That's because Anthony Davis and a few others have been injured. LeBron James will be playing in this game, but I think the Pacers, who enter having lost five straight, will be able to keep this one close enough down the stretch to at least gain the cover.
The pick: The Lakers are still in the drivers seat and when AD is playing, their likely the best team in the league. LA is going to go on a big run at some point in the second-half, but I expect it to come out a little flat here in this opener against a non-conference opponent. But for the floundering Pacers, they have no luxury like that all, as they have to hit the ground running if they want to work their way back into contention. Consider Indiana in what I think is a great situation for it.
