    Jerry Shottenkirk's Daily Picks

    Gulfstream Park - Race #2
    Picks Notes
#2 The Mighty Judge Gets a good pace to chase moves over from the turf; bred to be successful at this distance.
#3 Whyareuawesome Ran very well last time, losing in a photo; has plenty of good races on his form and will battle it out.
#4 Green Mansions Drops to open $10k claimers for the first time and has accomplished quite a bit in his career; 7 year old still has some run in him and can find a way into the mix.
Race Summary The Mighty Judge is a price play and the pace should fit nicely for him; can be a late mover today.

    Gulfstream Park - Race #5
    Picks Notes
#1 Please Sit Down He's really in the flow of good form lately with a pair of narrow losses following an easy win; has quickly climbed the ladder and will be driving at the leaders in the stretch.
#4 Brasstown Has exceptional speed, will probably have a clear lead, and will be difficult to catch if able to moderate how fast he goes.
#6 Meade Tries for his third consecutive win and his most recent score was in impressive fashion; clearly in the hunt throughout this.
Race Summary Please Sit Down has finished with plenty of interest and can adapt to an effective running style under any circumstances at this level.

    Gulfstream Park - Race #6
    Picks Notes
#2 The Ice Beast Comes out of much stronger races, drops to his lowest level and can get past this group.
#3 Top Boss Was third in three of his last four and can carve out a good run here.
#1 Uncaptured Soldier Has enough speed to battle from the start and can benefit from the inside trip.
Race Summary The Ice Beast has been in fast races and he'll likely be able to get back some finishing punch in this spot.

              Play on: UNDER 5 +113

Thursday NHL Free play. My selection is on the 'under' between New York and Boston at 7:05 pm et on Thursday.
I like the fact that we're getting a plus-money return with the 'under' in this one (at the time of writing) even as we deal with a low total (especially by today's NHL standards) at 5. I mentioned this in my analysis of Monday's winner with the Islanders-Flyers 'under' - we've seen an extreme road-home dichotomy when it comes to the Isles this season. Their away games have totaled an average of just 4.5 goals with the 'under' going an incredible 15-2. Here, we find the Isles in a perfect 11-0 'under' situation this season playing on the road following a win, with those games totaling just 3.7 goals on average. When New York plays on the road after allowing a goal or less in its previous game, it averages just 1.3 goals on average, with the 'under' going a perfect 6-0 in that spot this season. Meanwhile, the 'under' is a perfect 7-0 when the Bruins seek revenge for four straight losses against an opponent in the last two years over the last three seasons. That situation has produced just 3.9 total goals on average. This will be the first meeting between these two teams in Boston this season with their last three matchups at TD Garden staying 'under' the total. Take the under (8*).

                NBA | Blazers vs Heat
Play on: Heat -2½ -110 at BetCris

Jack's Free Pick Thursday: Miami Heat -2.5
The Miami Heat had gone 11-1 over a 12-game stretch prior to losing four straight heading into this game with the Portland Trail Blazers tonight. It's safe to say we the Heat will be highly motivated to try and end this losing streak.
The Heat have simply shot poorly in their last four games, shooting 41% from the floor and only 28% from 3-point range during this current skid. They should have no problem getting back on track in that department against a Blazers team that just doesn't play defense.
Indeed, the Blazers rank 29th in the NBA in defensive efficiency, allowing 115.0 points per 100 possessions. Only the Kings have been worse. I definitely trust the Heat more in this spot given that they rank 6th in the NBA in defensive efficiency, allowing just 107.0 points per 100 possessions.
The Blazers are 2-7 ATS in their last nine games overall. The home team is 4-1 SU & 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings. Bet the Heat Thursday.

Play on: Knicks -3 -106 at pinnacle

                  1* NBA - Wizards/Knicks *FREE PICK* on Knicks -3
Today's free pick is on the New York Knicks as a mere 3-point home favorite against the Washington Wizards. These two teams just played on Tuesday at Madison Square Garden and the Knicks won that matchup 131-113. It's not easy beating the same team in back-to-back games, but I'm confident New York will do just that. Washington is a mess right now. Wizards have lost 7 of their last 8 and there's a chance they could trade star player Bradley Beal before this game goes off. Either way I like the Knicks to win by 3 or more. Wizards are 2-10 ATS last 12 games with a line of +3 to -3, while New York is 12-4 ATS in their last 16 with a line of +3 to -3 and 9-1 ATS in this spot at home. Bet the Knicks -3!

The New York Knicks put a 131-113 beating on Washington on Tuesday, and I really don't see why this game would be any different. The Knickerbockers are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games as a favorite, and they own a huge defensive edge over the Wizards who are one of the worst defensive teams in the league while the Knicks are #1 for several defensive ratings.
It's also worth noting that the Wizards are 0-3 SU and ATS after dropping the first game of a doubleheader.
Free pick on New York Knicks.

                      NHL | Panthers vs Blackhawks
Play on: Panthers -115 at linepros

These teams met a couple of nights ago. While I won with the Hawks in that game, asking them to beat the Panthers twice in a row is asking a lot. The Panthers have played well all season and they've avoided losing streaks. Off b2b losses, they're going to be hungry. Note the the Panthers are a profitable 9-2 (+7.6) their last 11 in the 'revenge' role. While Chicago gets outscored by an average of 3.3 to 3.0 each game, the Panthers outscore opponents by an average of 3.3 to 2.8. That's a big difference. In addition to being stronger and hopefully hungrier, the Panthers are also the healthier team. The Hawks have a lengthy injury list. Consider Florida.

                        Play on: UNDER 143 -110

FRANK’S CUTTING ROOM FLOOR FOR THURSDAY, 3/25:

My “Cutting Room Floor” plays are the situations I considered the closest to being worthy of investment but did not make the “final cut” for my official plays today for subscribers. The last play on my cut list for the NIT Quarterfinals tonight is with Under the Total in the game between Boise State and Memphis. Boise State (18-8) ended a four-game losing streak with a 85-84 win against SMU as a pick ‘em last Thursday. The Broncos have seen at least 169 combined points in their last two games — but they have then played 5 of their last 8 games Under the Total after playing two in a row where at least 165 combined points were scored. Boise State has also played 5 of their last 7 games Under the Total on a neutral court as an underdog getting 3.5 to 6 points. Memphis won two of three with their 71-60 win against Dayton as a 5-point favorite last Saturday. The Under is 11-3-1 in the Tigers’ last 15 games against teams winning at least 60% of their last games. Memphis has also played 6 of their last 7 games Under the Total on a neutral court. Take the Under. Best of luck — Frank.

The Boise State Broncos take on the Memphis Tigers on Thursday night in the Quarterfinals of the NIT Tournament. Boise State is 18-8 SU overall this year while Memphis comes in with a 17-8 SU overall record on the season. Boise State is 19-8 ATS last 3 years after scoring 80 points or more. Memphis is 1-6 ATS this year after playing a non-conference game. Boise State is 4-1 ATS last 5 games as an underdog. Boise State is 5-2 ATS last 7 games when playing at a neutral site. We'll recommend a small play on Boise State tonight! Thanks and good luck, Rocky

NHL | Golden Knights vs Avalanche
Play on: Golden Knights +160 at linepros

I'm wondering if the Avalanche will be distracted returning to Denver after losing 5-4 on the road to the Coyotes this past Tuesday following the tragic mass shooting at a supermarket in Boulder, Colo., that happened earlier this week?
But my handicap isn't a fade on the Avalanche. Colorado had won seven in a row prior to its loss to Arizona. No, this handicap is more a value play on Las Vegas. These are the two best teams in the West Division so I'm attracted to taking a price this high on an elite team. The Golden Knights have had a strong March, too, winning 10 of 13 games. No team has won more games this month. It's an added plus if Max Pacioretty, the Golden Knights' leading scorer with 16 goals, is able to play after missing the past two games with a lower-body injury. He was skating on Wednesday and did make the trip to Denver. This has been a huge underdog series with the underdog winning in eight of the last nine meetings.

Play on: Western Kentucky +1 -110 at Mirage

My free play is on Western Ky at 10:00 ET.
The 22-7 Louisiana Tech Bulldogs and the 21-7 Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (both members of C-USA) meet Thursday in an NIT quarterfinal matchup at the Comerica Center in Frisco, Tx. Western Ky (11-3) was the East's No. 1 seed in the C-USA tourney and La Tech (12-4) was the West's No. 1 seed. Both school's lost to North Texas, which earned the league's automatic bid by winning the tourney (note: North Texas would go on to upset 4th-seeded Purdue 78-69 in OT in the Round of 64).
Eric Konkol came to La Tech for the 2015-16, when Mike White took the head coaching job at Florida. The Bulldogs have won 20-plus games again this season, making it FIVE times in his six years at Ruston that he has done so. This year's team had just ONE returning starter from last season (guard Amorie Achibald) but is just one away from a NIT Final 4 appearance. The backcourt is deep with Ledoux (11.2 & 4.0), Archibald (10.0-3.1-3.2), Pemberton (8.9 & 5.9) and Williams (8.9), while the 6-6 Crawford (11.9 & 5.2) and the 6-7 Lofton (11.4 & 7.3) make up an excellent frontcourt duo.
Western Ky's head coach Rick Stansberry spent 14 seasons at Miss St going to 11 postseasons, including five NCAAs. He came to Western Ky back in the 2016-17 season and entered the current season off three consecutive 20-win seasons (67-35 overall) and had all FIVE starters returning. 6-11 center Bassey (17.7 & 11.4) is a dominant force but his only help upfront is from 6-5 SF Williams (7.5 & 5.3). However, the Hilltoppers have excellent depth on the perimeter with Hollingsworth (13.9), Anderson (9.23& 4.0), Rawls (7.8), Frampton (7.5) and PG McKnight (5.9-3.7-3.9).
These teams met in back-to-back games Jan 8 and 9 with Western Ky winning 66-64 and then La Tech bouncing back with a 63-58 win. I'm sorry to see these teams matched up against each other, as likely would have played them against different opponents. That said, I'll back the team with FIVE returning starters, which also features the most dominant player on the court in the 6-11 Bassey.
                                Good luck...Larry
