MLB | Rockies vs Giants
Play on: Giants -165 at Mirage
My free play is on the SF Giants at 9:45 ET.
The 8-13 Colorado Rockies have won FOUR of their last five (best stretch of the season) but they open a three-game series on the road with the 14-8 San Francisco Giants on Monday. The Giants are also playing well (have won SIX of eight) and are not just 5 1/2-games better than the Rockies in the NL West but are 8-2 at home while Colorado is winless away from Coors so far at 0-6!
Colorado is off a 12-2 rout of the Philies on Sunday and while the Rockies are a modest 8-7 at home, they have averaged 5.9 RPG at Coors Field. That's in stark contrast to the team averaging 1.8 RPG in going 0-6 away from Coors. The Giants average only 3.64 RPG (26th) on offense but their pitching staff ranks second in all of MLB in both team ERA (2.94) and WHIP (1.09). Austin Gomber (1-2, 3.38 ERA) will start for Colorado, while the Giants counter with Anthony DeSclafani (1-0, 2.14 ERA).
Gomber is in his first season in Colorado after coming over from the St. Louis Cardinals in the Nolan Arenado trade. He's made four starts, including three consecutive quality starts. One of those came here in San Francisco (Apr 9) when he allowed just one hit (but four walks) in 6.1 innings of a 3-1 Giants win. He's been good so far, with a 3.38 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and .143 BAA. DeSclafani is coming off his shortest outing of the season in a 6-5 loss to the Phillies on Wednesday (four IP / all runs allowed came on a three-run HR). However, he's allowed just two ERs over 17 innings of his first three starts of 2021 (1.06 ERA / 16-4 KW ratio), which includes throwing six scoreless innings in a 4-0 win over the Rockies on April 11 (8-1 KW ratio). He is also 2-1 with a 3.13 ERA in four career starts against the Rockies.
Expect Colorado's road woes to continue as the surprising Giants move to 9-2 at home and 15-8 overall. Watch out LA. The Dodgers host the Reds tonight and are just 15-7, after a 13-2 start.
Good luck...Larry
