In the Main Event of UFC on ESPN Saturday night 2 Light heavyweights battle it out.
This is a pure value play on Reyes in this spot. Jiri is coming off a solid win over Volkan Oezdemeir via KO in round 2. As impressive as that is, Volkan won round 1 and had Jiri in some bad spots. Issue came with Jiri's very awkward style threwing Volkan off which is still credit to Jiri getting the win. Prior to that his Rizin FC career was filled with below level or washed up talent. His last 3 wins was over Muhammed Lawal who's 1-5 in last 6 fights, Fabio Maldonado who's also 1-5 in last 6 bouts and CB Dollaway who has a 17-10 MMA record overall and going 2-5 in last 7 cage appearances. While Jiri was crushing can's overseas, Reyes was fighting some of the best light heavyweights in the world, beating Jared Cannonier, Ovince Saint Preux, Chris Weidman, and Volkan Oezdemir. After that run he faced MMA GOAT Jon Jones in a bout 90% watching believe Reyes won giving Jones his first MMA career loss. Although judges didn't see it that way, still a great showing for Reyes. Most recently Dominick lost to Jan Blachowicz who's coming off a win over Middle Weight Champion Israel Adesanya. Now I know I know, MMA math doesn't work and nor am I suggesting thats all this is. In my opinion, I can't play Jiri at favorite odds when we just haven't seen him against top level talent. Reyes, we have and his body of work speaks for itself only having 2 career losses against 2 elite level fighters. If Jiri goes out there and KO's Reyes, then I can be a believer… but until then Reyes at plus money is the absolute play. Can't justify the very hittable Jiri mixed with his lackluster defense against below level talent at this price. Mostly I feel these odds should be flipped. If Reyes rightfully won the fight against Jones and even after losing his next against Jan, this line would be Reyes -250. At this point its worth a play on Reyes at dog money.
