This is a huge spread tonight. Especially since the Clippers have covered only two of their last nine games. They are getting healthy but a bunch of players are getting back into the rotation that are rusty. This team seems to be trying to tune up for the postseason instead of winning right now. These teams played last week in LA and the Clippers needed a big rally to win the game late in the fourth. That showed us that Toronto matches up well. They have also covered in nine of the last 13 meetings. Toronto is eliminated from the postseason. But they have pride. And they will be facing their old best player in Kawhi Leonard, and that should be enough to give them the motivation to keep this one within double digits.

The Miami Heat jumped out to a 79-53 halftime lead over the Boston Celtics on Sunday before calling off the dogs in the second half. That made the final score of 130-124 appear much closer than the game really was. Look for the Heat to put it on the Celtics again Tuesday knowing that they want to try and get in the Top 6 in the East to avoid the play-in round of the playoffs, and the Celtics are the team that is trying to chase them down. That's why they won't take Boston lightly in the rematch after just beating them. Boston just isn't good enough now that Jaylen Brown is out for the season with a wrist injury to hang with a healthy Heat team. The Heat are 9-3 SU in their last 12 games overall and clearly in playoff mode right now. The Celtics are 3-6 SU & 2-7 ATS in their last nine games overall and stumbling to the finish line. Give me the Heat.

Tuesday NHL Free play. My selection is on Winnipeg over Vancouver at 8:05 pm et on Tuesday.
The Jets continue to struggle, having won just once in their last 10 games but I do like their chances of bouncing back following last night's 3-1 loss to these same Canucks. It's worth noting that Winnipeg still owns a slight 4-3 edge in the last seven meetings between these two teams in Winnipeg and Vancouver has yet to notch consecutive victories over the Jets this season. We haven't seen the Canucks post back-to-back wins since they returned to the ice with stunning consecutive victories over the Leafs back on April 18th and 20th. Considering Thatcher Demko started last night's game in goal for Vancouver and it has yet to give a goaltender consecutive starts in a back-to-back situation this season, we're likely to see Braden Holtby between the pipes tonight. He has of course struggled this season with a GAA well north of 3.00 and a save percentage under .900. The Jets are in a strong situation here having gone 23-12 when coming off a division loss over the last two seasons, outscoring opponents by an average margin of 0.7 goals in that spot. They're also 23-13 when revenging a loss against an opponent by two goals or more over the last two seasons, outscoring the opposition by 0.3 goals on average in that situation. Meanwhile, the Canucks have had a tendency to run out of gas on long road trips, having gone a miserable 5-20 when playing at least their fourth straight road game over the last two seasons, outscored by an average margin of 1.5 goals in that spot. Take Winnipeg (8*).

The Chicago White Sox ended an 11-year postseason drought in 2020, as their 35-25 record earned them a wild card berth). Chicago lost that series to Oakland 2-1, but opened the current season as favorites to win the AL Central. Minnesota won the AL Central with a 36-24 record, giving them a third postseason appearance in the previous four years. However, Minnesota's postseason woes continued, as they got swept 2- 0 by the 29-31 Astros. Minnesota has almost unbelievably lost 18 consecutive postseason games!
Minnesota opened the current season 5-2 but enters this season having lost 18 of its last 25 to fall to 12-20. In contrast, the White Sox were only 8-9 through April 19 but have won 11 of 15, after a three-game sweep at KC this past weekend. Chicago is now 19-13 and leads the AL Central by one game over the Indians. Meanwhile, the Twins find themselves SEVEN games back of the White Sox and their record is better than only the MLB-worst Detroit Tigers (10-24). The teams open a three-game series tonight in Chicago, as the Twins send Kenta Maeda (2-2, 5.02 ERA) to the mound, while the White Sox counter with Dylan Cease (2-0, 2.37 ERA).
Maeda spent his first four seasons with the Dodgers but was traded to Minnesota in February of 2020. Maeda was terrific in 2020, going 6-1 in 11 starts (Twins were 8-3). He posted a 2.70 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and opponents batted just .168 against him. However, he's really fallen off in 2021, going 2-2 in six starts (Twins are 2-4) with a 5.02 ERA and 1.53 WHIP, while opponents have batted .306! How bad is that? His career BAA is .225.
Cease entered this season 9-11 (over 26 starts) with a 5.00 ERA in his first two years. He did not get a decision in his first three starts of 2021 but Chicago lost all three (his ERA was 3.86). However, he's 2-0 with a 1.10 ERA over his last three starts (White Sox are 3-0), lowering his ERA to 2.37 on the season with a BAA of .208.will go for their fourth win in a row Tuesday night when they open a three-game series against the visiting Minnesota Twins.
Chicago outscored KC 21-4 in its three-game sweep this past weekend and now gets SEVEN consecutive home games, three vs the Twins (7-18 their last 25) and four vs the Royals (losers of EIGHT in a row). Cease is part of a Chicago starting rotation that has combined to go 14-5 with a 2.66 ERA with opponents are hitting .196 off the group. Getting back to Maeda, he owns a 6.63 ERA in four road starts this season, allowing opponents to bat .337. Chicago is the play.

The Astros lost Game 1 of this home series versus LA, but I like Houston in Game 2.
Lance McCullers will toe the slab for Houston, and he's coming off back to back wins. McCullers (2-1, 3.58 ERA) allowed three runs while striking out eight in six innings in a win over the Yankees his last time out.
The Angels will hand the ball to Shohei Ohtani, who has really struggled to throw strikes. He walked six batters in five innings in a loss to Tampa his last time out.
The Angels are 6-17 in the last 23 meetings in Houston.

Tuesday's Free NBA Pick is on the Los Angeles Lakers as a 4.5-point home favorite against the New York Knicks. With LeBron James expected back in the lineup after missing the last few and Kyle Kuzma returning after sitting out their last game, this is just too good a price to pass up with LA.
