    Jerry Shottenkirk's Daily Picks

Will Rogers Downs - Race #4
#1 Fresh One Crushed this level two races back and then was outrun in an allowance race; has a solid finishing move and can run well vs. these.
#3 Calculating King Has won three straight and four of his last five and is a power claimer from the Roger Engel barn, which is at 41 percent success.
#4 Eurobond Ran a big race on the front end last time, finishing second for $25,000; could be difficult to catch.
Race Summary Fresh One romped two back and gets a decent pace setup here; can get back to the winner's circle.
Will Rogers Downs - Race #8
#1 Miss Chit Broke her maiden at Sam Houston and was fourth in the Pepsi Stakes at Fonner; can be in the mix vs. bottom level Oklahoma-bred N2L fillies and mares.
#3 Gracie G On the board in all four races, which have all come this season; ran third twice after being claimed by the Morales stable and drops back to the price at which she was haltered.
#8 Miss Tyro Was an even third last out and can be closer to the pace this time; has a legit chance to post a mild upset.
Race Summary Miss Chit is in from Fonner, where she ran at a higher level, and comes to WRD to run for a price at which she should be very competitive.
Will Rogers Downs - Race #9
#1 Major Brown Was claimed off Asmussen at Oaklawn by the Donaldson stable and can be competitive in this conditioned allowance; solid at this distance.
#7 Rockandahardplace Was claimed by Broberg and ran his last three vs. company well above this level; expect a big effort.
#8 Absaroka Set the pace and settled for second last time and beat Oklahoma-bred allowance runners two races back; clearly runs well over the track and will press throughout.
Race Summary Major Brown can be in good position from the inside and can answer the question when they turn for home.; good finisher.

      Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

      Parx Racing - Race #6
#3 Plato Wouldn't want anything shorter than the 2/1 ML offering here, but on form he looks like the right one off the mild finishing efforts at Tampa. Guessing he'll be a good fit with the locals.
#6 Quality Special Should be able to work out a good trip right near the top, but the worry is that he doesn't often pass horses, so he's at the mercy of whether anyone else wants to go with him early.
#2 Grand Oasis His hit or miss form is a concern, but there are some pretty competitive lines when racing with this kind in recent starts. Chance with something similar to the last one.
Race Summary Plato should be tough while dropping in for this conditioned spot while trying the local company for the first time, and he has a little bit of versatility in style that should serve him well here.
      Parx Racing - Race #9
#4 Star Sign Tactical speed has had plenty of chances at this level, but he's about as reliable as they come with this type, and getting back to this 7f trip might be right up his alley.
#2 Ashaab He debuted in a pretty good race for the level at Penn before the easy score in the local debut, and he bounced out of that maiden win with a couple of bullet works, so maybe he's ready to handle the hike with winners right back.
#1 Dig Charlie Dig Finisher is probably overbet based on the connections, but he's a pretty reliable type at this level and should be rolling late. Underlaid player.
Race Summary Star Sign has been landing underneath shares with this kind for quite some time, and he should be in line for a great trip while stretching back to this 7f distance where he won his only try.
      Parx Racing - Race #10
#6 Word on a Wing Looks most probably of the forward players to ease off things just a touch and press the splits, but he'll have to fire off the September layoff.
#2 Admiral Abe He's another with some sharp pace and the occasional ability to settle, but he draws inside the other pace and may not get the smoothest of runs from a race flow perspective.
#4 Brother Chub He's probably a bit outrun in the early going here, but that might work in his favor in a spot without any real finishing punch besides the cutback player in the entry.
Race Summary Word on a Wing could land a pretty brilliant trip with these, as he's quick enough to be in the mix early, but he can also prompt the speed and kick home. I'd take the 5/2 ML price.

        Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

        Saratoga Harness - Race #2
#8 SO SO INCREDIBLE Winless a long time, seeks duplicate of latest.
#6 MAXIMUM DEAL No factor against better, gets involved in this field.
#4 JOHNNYSFIRECRACKER Been burning serious money the last couple months.
Race Summary So So Incredible chased a sharp winner from the pocket and held off favorite Johnnysfirecracker for second. He draws outside and hasn't won in the last two seasons, but he could reverse the trend with a similar effort. Play an 8 with 4,6 with ALL trifecta
        Northfield Park - Race #5
#1 DOOWRAH BOY Has speed, can go non-stop from the rail as today's Best Bet.
#8 GUYS IN THE BAND Arrives from Pompano for 20-percent barn, gets Merriman.
#3 BROTHER JOHN FINN Sustained second-over rally for second at 25-1, gets Wrenn.
Race Summary Doowrah Boy romped from the rail in his prior Northfield Park start and gave way chasing honest fractions and the 2-1 winner last out at Scioto Downs. He can make good use of his speed in this spot. Play 1-3 and 1-8 exactas.
        Scioto Downs - Race #1
#9 ROCKIN ERA Better than latest appears, won with Noble in similar spot at Miami Valley.
#2 SIRI SAID Discount latest, met repeater at Miami Valley prior, use in gimmicks.
#8 TWO OF HARDTS Third despite interference at start, moves inside out.
Race Summary Rockin Era made up a couple lengths through a :56.3 back half against a 4-to-5 winner at Hoosier Park. He figures tough if he can negotiate the outside post. Play a 2-8-9 exacta box.

Al Cimaglia: Scioto Downs Late Pick 4 Analysis

          May 18, 2021 | By Al Cimaglia
Scioto Downs has a 14-race card set to start their week. The 0.50 Late Pick 4 begins in Race 10 and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

          Race 10

4-Pc's Alleyway (8/5)-Not loving the 8/5 morning line but hasn't been in this cheap in a long time. This should be wake-up time but is just 1-14 in 2021 and has only 1 win in 20 races at ScD.
6-Master Malin (5-1)-Was claimed for $20k on 4-14 and then faced better than this in the next 2 starts. Hasn't looked the same since the claim but this will be the 3rd start for the new barn and should like the company. Using at a square price in an ugly race.

          Race 11

3-Crafty Ace (3-1)-Beaten chalk at this class now makes 1st start for new connections off a claim. Noble steers again and is back in at the same class. Should be in the hunt but has only 1 win in 12 tries at ScD and is just 3 for the last 48 starts.
4-Seen Before Heard (9/2)-Will toss last from the 10-hole and was in good form in the previous 2 starts. T. Smith will need to work a smooth trip and if so figures to be a player especially if there is an honest pace. Best to respect winner in 6 of 17 starts this year.
8-Montano Pablo A (2-1)-Morning line chalk just missed in last which was the 2nd start for the Morgan barn. Should be a big threat with a good steer and would probably go off as an odds-on favorite again with a better post draw.

          Race 12

2-Wildfire Flasher (4-1)-Broke stride last week in 1st Scioto start. Has had physical issues and at times breaking problems. But has been staked, so should fit with this crew if minds manners.
3-Good Ole Ethin (3-1)-Miami Valley invader makes 1st ScD start and has the speed to be a player. Sutton could get a close-up seat and work a cozy trip.
7-Gotafoolishdesire (7-1)-Was far off the pace at the half in 1st career start but raced willingly to the wire to cash a check. There isn't a true standout in this field and could take a picture if within striking range at the top of the lane.
9-Perpetual Rock (20-1)-Had an even effort from post 4 in 1st try at ScD. The price should be better with this post draw and Page sticks. Was coming off a sick scratch before the last start and may show improvement tonight.

          Race 13

4-Barley Nation (2-1)-Scored a gate to wire win last week in 1st start at ScD this year. Noble should be out and rolling with the same type of trip in mind. Comes right back after racing on 5/11 and won here after missing a start.
7-Astrofficial (7/2)-Makes 1st start off a Virgil Morgan claim and he has raced this mare before. Started in the 2nd tier last week and kept coming although the trip wasn't smooth. If #4 doesn't bring her "A" game this gal has a good chance to get to the winner's circle.

          0.50 Late Pick 4

          4,6/3,4,8/2,3,7,9/4,7

Event: (200057) Leeds United at (200058) Southampton
Sport/League: SOC (See all free soccer picks)
            Date/Time: May 18, 2021 1PM EDT
Play: Bothe Teams to Score & Over 2.5 (-138)
Southampton look a new side of late as Ralph Hasenhuttl continues to push this team forward in an effort to keep his job.
Leeds meanwhile are winding down the season playing with abandon, putting 4 goals past Burnley last time out on their travels and with little to play for in regards to table placement for either side, another high scoring encounter is expected.
Overall this season, Leeds have averaged 1.53 xg per game, 6th highest in the league, while Southampton haven't kept a clean sheet at home since January.
We expect goals in this one and like the combination bet of Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 at -138 to cash on Tuesday.

EPL - Fulham at Manchester United
Quick Synopsis: Final home game of the season for United and thankfully fans will be allowed to take part in the action. Fulham should be wide open here in their final couple of games in the top flight before heading down to the Championship next season as one of the 3 relegated sides. With a Europa League Final just over a week away this should serve as a good tune up for United.
The play is Manchester United -1.5

                  Date/Time: May 18, 2021 6PM EDT
                  Play: Charlotte Hornets +2.0 (-110)
The National Basketball Association postseason is here, and it all beings on Tuesday, May 18th, when the ninth-seeded Indiana Pacers host the 10th-seed Charlotte Hornets at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Tip-off for the 2021 playoff opener is scheduled for 6:30 pm ET.
The loser of Tuesday's first postseason event will be eliminated from the Association Championship bracket. The winner between these two Eastern Conference teams will advance to match up against the loser of Tuesday's doubleheader nightcap between the seven-seed Boston Celtics and the eight-seed Washington Wizards.
The Hornets exhibited an edge in the three regular-season games between these two, winning a pair of the three contests. The most recent between the two franchises found the Hornets earned a 114-97 game at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in early April. It was a matchup after the Pacers decided to sacrifice defense for more offensive possession, pace per se, and Charlotte still managed to keep Indy from reaching the century mark. The Free Pick for Tuesday's early play-in affair is a play on "I want to be like Mike" and his Hornets.

                    Date/Time: May 18, 2021 10PM EDT
Play: Total Under 8.0 (-105) S Turnbull (RHP), J Dunn (RHP) Must Start
                    927 Detroit Tigers at 928 Seattle Mariners -125, 8

The American League Central last-place Detroit Tigers are on the road for Game 2 of a 3-game set versus the Seattle Mariners. The first pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 10:10 p.m. EDT. The Tigers have positioned Spencer Turnbull (2-2, 3.91) to start in a matchup against the Mariners Justin Dunn (1-1, 3.72).
Turnbull is fully stretched out now and will square off against the free-swinging Seattle lineup. Turnbull's high groundball rate and the Mariners' high percentage of strikeouts make this a favorable start for the Tigers ace. Dunn has struck out eight across his last nine innings. Dunn's six strikeouts vs. the Orioles two starts back was a season-high for the righty.
It is Year Five of a five-year rebuild plan for Detroit, and the prospects of them being a contender in the AL Central are delusional. The struggles of the Tigers' top two pitching prospects are a big concern, and Detroit’s best hitter this year is Robbie Grossman.
Free Pick for Tuesday is a play Under the Total of 8 at T-Mobile Park

                            Thistledown - Race #6 - Post: 3:20pm - Claiming - 8.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $15,400 Class Rating: 65

                            Rating:

                            #2 BUCKITITLEWAVE (ML=3/1)
                            #5 BUCKEYE RUCKUS (ML=6/1)

BUCKITITLEWAVE - As long as Correa keeps this racer off the pace, I have to believe this one could be a happy winner. This horse coming off a nice contest in the last month is a win candidate in my humble opinion. This horse is at the top in earnings per race. He looks sharp in today's event. You have to really like that last race fig, 61, which is the best latest race speed fig of this field. BUCKEYE RUCKUS - The last time he tried this distance he got a fig good enough to win this race. Should do well in this event. Weight shift of -6 from April 28th race at Thistledown.

                            Vulnerable Contenders: #6 DOCTORIAT (ML=5/2), #1 ATTACK ANGLE (ML=7/2), #3 BODYGUARD (ML=9/2),

DOCTORIAT - This runner has been disappointing the public as the favorite time and time again. ATTACK ANGLE - This gelding registered a speed rating in his last affair which probably isn't good enough in today's event. BODYGUARD - Most recent speed rating of 60 may not be for real since it was on a track listed as good. Not likely that the speed figure he garnered on May 5th will hold up in this clash. To me, when a entrant adds front wraps in his last affair, it's never a good sign.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Bet on #2 BUCKITITLEWAVE to win if we can get at least 3/2 odds
                            EXACTA WAGERS: Box [2,5]

Will Rogers Downs - Race #2 - Post: 1:28pm - Maiden Claiming - 8.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $7,150 Class Rating: 55

                              Rating:

                              #1 SO BRAVE (ML=9/5)
                              #5 OBSTRUCTED VIEW (ML=1/1)

SO BRAVE - This late closer looks to be the thoroughbred to make a move near the wire. Richard's agent must enjoy anytime Padilla gives them a mount; winning pct together is good. You may want to overlook that last affair at Will Rogers Downs in the slop where he finished out of the money. Should do well in this race on a non-sloppy track. The improved Equibase speed figures over the last 3 races is strong. Padilla drops him in this race fit and ready to go. OBSTRUCTED VIEW - Dropping down in class rating points from his May 12th race at Will Rogers Downs. Based on that data, I will give this one the advantage. Just view his most recent speed figure, 55. That one looks good in this group. This equine is utmost in EPS (earnings per start). He looks sharp in today's contest.

Vulnerable Contenders: #4 TEXAS GOLD RUSH (ML=4/1), #3 BUD MINISTER (ML=6/1),

TEXAS GOLD RUSH - Earned a mediocre speed figure last time around the track in a $7,500 Maiden Claiming race on May 3rd. Not probable to see an improved performance off of that figure. BUD MINISTER - The finish position of third in the last event shows me that this animal may be getting out of condition. Substandard speed figure in the last race at Will Rogers Downs at 1 mile. Don't feel this horse will improve too much in today's race.
