I will take my chances with the Blue Jays as a -132 home favorite against the Red Sox tonight. I just feel like this line should be closer to -150. Not only are we getting Toronto at home, but they got the advantage on the mound with today's two starters.
Blue Jays will send out Hyun-Jin Ryu, who has a stellar 2.95 ERA and 1.059 WHIP In 7 starts. What's impressive about Ryu is that he's got such a great ERA despite 6 of his first 7 starts being on the road. In his only home outing of 2021, he allowed 0 ER on just 4 hits over 6 2/3 innings against the Yankees.
Boston will send out Eduardo Rodriguez. While he's got an impressive 5-1 record, he's got a mere 4.15 ERA and 1.205 WHIP. He's also been much worse of late, posting a 5.06 ERA and 1.687 WHIP in his last 3 starts. This also figures to be a touch matchup, as Blue Jays are scoring 6.1 runs/game at home and 5.9 runs/game vs left-handed starters this season. Give me Toronto -132!

The Penguins are a dismal 1-10 in their last 11 postseason games. But I believe Pittsburgh comes back strong here at home after losing, 4-3, in overtime in Sunday's series opener. I thought Pittsburgh controlled the tempo for much of the first two periods. Rookie goalie Ilya Sorokin made 39 saves for the Islanders.
The Penguins are quite aware if they lose this game they are down 0-2 in the series with the next two games at the Islanders. Pittsburgh has won 72 percent of its last 54 home games. New York is 3-8 in its last 11 road contests. The Islanders went 2-6 against the Penguins during the regular season. It's an added bonus if Evgeni Malkin can play for the Penguins after missing Sunday's opener.

My free play is on the Min Twins at 7:40 ET. The Chicago White Sox ended an 11-year playoff drought in 2020 and after producing season highs in runs and hits (18) in Monday's 16-4 out of the Twins, own the best record in MLB at 25-15. The 2021 season is NOT going as well for Minnesota, which has won the AL Central in each of the two previous seasons. The Twins opened 5-2 but by the end of April were just 7-15. Last night's loss was Minnesota's 10th in its last 12 games and at 13-26, the Twins not only find themselves in last-place in the AL Central (already 11 1/2-games back of the White Sox) but as the owners of MLB's worst record as well. The starting pitching matchup features Lance Lynn (4-1, 1.30 ERA) for Chicago and Michael Pineda (2-2, 2.79 ERA) of Minnesota. Many will remember Lynn as an integral part of a St Louis rotation when he won 71 games over a five-year stretch from 2012-17 (he missed all of 2016 with an injury). Lynn left St Louis as a free agent and bombed with Minnesota in 2018 (7-8 / 5.10 ERA / 1.67 WHIP) but starred for a poor Texas team in 2019 and 2020. He won 16 games in 2019 and was a workhorse last season for Texas, leading the majors in starts (13) and innings pitched (84). Lynn was sidelined for the latter part of April this season but since May 1 is 3-0 with a 1.80 ERA. The most recent of those wins came last Thursday over the Twins (and Pineda) 4-2 (5 IP / one unearned run). Pineda's career has been interrupted by injury on a semi-regular basis but he seemed to find a 'home' with Minnesota in 2019. He was 11-5 with a 4.01 ERA before he received a 60-game suspension for testing positive for hydrochlorothiazide. His suspension ran into 2020, when he made five starts, going 2-0 with a 3.38 ERA (Twins were 5-0). Pineda has pitched well again in 2021 but wins have NOT come easily for Minnesota, regardless of who is starting. Pineda's ERA is 2.79, his WHIP is 1.01 and opponents are batting just .204 against him, yet the Twins are just 3-4 in his starts. Why take Minnesota here? The White Sox are coming off season highs in runs (16) and hits (18) and it's not rare for a team to suffer a minor 'let down' after a performance like that. What's more, the White Sox ripped Minnesota lefty J.A. Happ for SIX runs in just 3.2 innings on their way to scoring 16 runs. The White Sox are now 9-2 when facing left-handed starters in 2021, averaging a WHOPPING 8.6 RPG (note: Chicago was 14-0, while averaging 7.1 RPG vs lefties in 2020). In contrast here in 2021, the White Sox are a modest 16-13 vs righties, averaging 4.2 RPG (4.4 RPG less than against lefty starters). Let's take Pineda in this quick "re-hook." Good luck...Larry

The St. Louis Cardinals should be fired up for this one after dropping three games to the Padres in San Diego over the weekend.
Cards' right-hander John Gant (2-3, 1.83 ERA) is having a great year. Gant has conceded one or no runs in four consecutive starts, including five innings of one-run ball at Pittsburgh a couple of weeks ago.
Pittsburgh right-hander JT Brubaker (3-2, 2.58 ERA) has had a solid start to the year as well, but he gave up three runs on seven hits in five innings of a 7-3 loss to the Cards at the beginning of the month.
