            Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

            Pimlico - Race #2
            Picks Notes
#2 My Girl Blue She didn't show anything in the comeback at Aqueduct, but she has some upside in the second start off the bench and owns back turf form that suggests she can do better here.
#5 Baffle 'Em Willing to forgive the mud try last time out, and she's probably pretty tough here if she can get anywhere near that two-back Tampa try.
#10 Love My Cat Grass is a question, but she turned in a really nice effort with similar when trying two turns for the first time. Along late if she handles the new footing.
Race Summary My Girl Blue needs far better than she showed last time out, but she ran okay in a couple of starts on the lawn to open her career. Interesting enough at something near the 15/1 ML price.

            Pimlico - Race #5
            Picks Notes
#2 Flash Lightening He gets blinkers for the first time while making his route debut, but his pedigree hints that this two-turn trip may not pose too big of a problem for him.
#5 Royalian He moved in the right direction when getting around two turns for the first time, and he should be in line for another dreamy trip near the top.
#8 Orbonthebayou Route trips have really helped him up his game, and he's right in the mix again with something similar to that last one. Worry he's a bit overbet.
Race Summary Fun race where even #1 Transfer the Funds probably belongs on some tickets, but Flash Lightening might be tough while adding blinkers and stretching out. He can be a touch more tactical in this kind of spot, and that should serve him well while dealing with a more relaxed route tempo.

            Pimlico - Race #7
            Picks Notes
#5 Pretty Edgy She should be a mid-range price while racing second off the bench, and she can track what might be a fair set of splits. She's capable of the kind of race that would win this.
#1 Sosua No doubt she's the one to beat off the flashy debut win at Tampa in March, but she's going to be way overbet while drawing the fence in a race with some other forward players who might keep her honest.
#2 Be Present She has a very mild pressing gear that might serve her well here, but she's going to have to fire a good one off the bench to handle this decent group.
Race Summary Pretty Edgy might land a pretty dreamy trip while racing just a few lengths off the pace, and she'll probably offer a playable price in a spot where the rail runner is likely to dominate the wagering.

              Harrah's Philadelphia - Race #1
              Picks Notes
#3 NEWBIE Right set-up, right price to go after 34th career victory.
#2 WHATSTROUBLNUROCKY Even paced in 1:51 flat, draws favorable post.
#4 IDEAL COWBOY Beat weak field for first win of year, one of many chances.
Race Summary In a field loaded with front-end types, Newbie gets the call to work out a good stalking trip at a good price. He finished behind the favorites at Pocono Downs last out. Play 3-2, 3-4 and 3-6 exactas.

              Scioto Downs - Race #2
              Picks Notes
#4 LITTLESAMMY Awakened in second start off layoff, value remains.
#2 WINNING MISTY Wired field in split division race that timed 3/5 faster.
#9 MAGIC CREDIT CARD Controlled pace, held on as popular choice.
Race Summary Littlesammy tracked a slow pace, loomed 3-wide at the top of the stretch at 46-1 odds and ran a scare into 1-to-9 winner Magic Credit Card, who draws post 9 today. She's worth a lesser price shot in her second start since August. Play 4-2 and 4-9 exactas.

              Scioto Downs - Race #3
              Picks Notes
#2 BAD MS JOHNSON Parked long way as beaten fave, got up for second.
#7 JK'S SHINING STAR Versatile, piling up the wins, second start locally.
#1 ROCKN' WITH T Discount latest, upset top one to repeat two starts back.
Race Summary Bad Ms Johnson was flushed out at the half-mile marker, grinded first-over and got up to finish second behind JK's Shining Star. She can turn the tables and reverse the outcome with a better trip today. Play a 2 with 1,7 with ALL trifecta.

                Gulfstream Park - Race #2
                Picks Notes
#5 Don V. Crushed maidens last out and can finished well vs. this group; was sharp in his first in eight months.
#1 Current Hope Put the hammer down late and drew off from maidens last out; moves his act to the main track.
#4 Discreet Tune Weakened from sizzling fractions last out and can get a better trip today.
Race Summary Don V. was impressive off the bench last time out and can outfinish this crew.

                Gulfstream Park - Race #4
                Picks Notes
#4 Tonalism Buried maidens in his debut in January and was claimed out of that one by the Amado stable; had one really poor effort two back but ran a much-improved fourth last out. Fits with these and could pay a healthy price.
#6 Doc Amster Missed by a nose at Tampa last out and can be in the mix from the outset; solid player.
#5 Kalu Set the pace, turned back an easy challenge and was clear at the end of his latest; can take it to them early in this one and likely will dig in.
Race Summary Tonalism turns back in distance and gets a hot pace in front of him; has not been consistent but is sharp when he brings his best.

                Gulfstream Park - Race #7
                Picks Notes
#2 C'Mon Karen Hard not to take a look at this one as she's won both starts; her second was the more impressive of the two as she drew off from optional allowance runners.
#4 No Decaf Set the pace and finished second last out and has been right there in all starts, with three seconds and the victory. She's quick and will be an important part of this.
#5 Celestial Cheetah Was a claim by Walder last out the race after she beat optional allowance company; looks like a good investment for #35k.
Race Summary C'Mon Karen was a sharp maiden winner but really stepped up her game last out; clearly a runner.

FOR ACCREDITED LA BRED FILLIES THREE YEARS OLD OR FILLIES AND MARES FOUR YEARS OLD AND UPWARD WHICH HAVE NEVER WON TWO RACES. THREE YEAR OLDS, 118 LBS.; OLDER, 123 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $10,000.

                      RECOMMENDED CHOICES
                      # 8 MOLLYS FLYIN HIGH 5/1
                      # 4 ENDURING PEACE 8/1
                      # 1 TOTALLY GRACE 2/1
MOLLYS FLYIN HIGH is my choice. The winning percentage shown by horses entered by Faucheux running at this distance are the strongest in this group. She looks very good in this slot and I expect will be on the front end or close at the halfway point. Don't let this filly slip past you. Could prove victorious at big odds. ENDURING PEACE - Exhibits the look of a money-making play, averaging a solid 52 speed figure which is one of the strongest in this group of horses. Has very good Equibase Class Figures relative to this group - worth a look. TOTALLY GRACE - Well above average win rate at this distance/surface. She looks quite good in this slot and I expect will be on the lead or close at the halfway point.

                        Gulfstream Park - Race #5 - Post: 2:56pm - Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $17,000 Class Rating: 69

                        Rating:

                        #9 LYRICAL (ML=7/2)
                        #7 QUEEN ABARRIO (ML=6/1)

LYRICAL - This is a classic 'Lone Front-runner' scenario. If Jaramillo gets him out of the gate cleanly it'll likely be smooth sailing. The April 23rd affair at Gulfstream Park was at a class level of (75). Dropping to a lower level significantly, so she should be in a good position. QUEEN ABARRIO - Last raced at Gulfstream Park in a race with a class figure of 75. Dropping considerably in class figure this time puts her in a solid position in today's race. Have to make this filly a strong challenger; she comes off a strong effort on Apr 23rd.

                        Vulnerable Contenders: #8 ROADHOUSE BLUES (ML=5/2), #4 ILL WILL (ML=9/2), #3 HIDDEN DREAMS (ML=8/1),

ROADHOUSE BLUES - In any race of 6 furlongs, I like to support a contender that has been looking good in sprint affairs recently. Finished seventh last time out of the box. Would have to move up to be on the board today. ILL WILL - The third place finish in the last event was not the greatest. HIDDEN DREAMS - 8/1 odds isn't enough for this entrant when examining the most recent outings.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: #9 LYRICAL is going to be the play if we are getting 8/5 or better
                        EXACTA WAGERS: Box [7,9]

                          Lone Star Park - Race #8 - Post: 9:51pm - Claiming - 5.0 furlongs on the Turf. Purse: $19,500 Class Rating: 81

                          Rating:

                          #10 PEKA (ML=5/2)
                          #4 SHEER DEVIL (ML=4/1)
                          #3 TELLING THYME (ML=8/1)
                          #7 SECRET MISTRESS (ML=5/1)

PEKA - Of all the entrants in today's race only this mare has won on this turf course. The 77 recent race speed figure looks strong in black and white. SHEER DEVIL - Filly won shipping here on May 6th and looks good right back. Looking at this filly's running lines, I see she's almost always in the top three. That was a strong win last time out. In my opinion has a good chance to repeat today. Recent Equibase speed figures show dominant pattern of improvement. This thoroughbred coming off a nice race in the last month or so is a serious competitor in my book. TELLING THYME - You'll be making money left and right by turning your gambling cash onto this jock/conditioner combination. Gustafson is solid in turf sprints. This horse should have no alibis if she doesn't win. Alvarez is right back for another race today after riding aboard this equine for the initial time on Mar 19th and ought to know the ropes to this one a little better. This one has increased her speed ratings in each of the last two races. That kind of progress is important to note. SECRET MISTRESS - Trainer, Moquett, has been deliberate with this filly off the layoff. Look for a solid effort today. You should toss out that last event at Lone Star Park on a muddy track where she finished outside the top 3. Should do well right here in this race without the slop.

Vulnerable Contenders: #2 SUGAR AND SASS (ML=7/2), #1 CABO SENORITA (ML=8/1),

SUGAR AND SASS - This filly finished out of the top three on January 28th and wasn't near the winner in the last race either. Finished ninth on May 7th after the long turnout. Doubtful if there will be any change in this event. CABO SENORITA - Hard to take this runner at these odds after the finish (third) in the last race. When examining today's class rating, she will have to notch a much better speed fig than last time around the track to be competitive in this turf sprint.

                            # 1 EL CHEAPO 8/1
I think STONE COLD CAT is a solid choice. His 51 average has this gelding with among the most respectable Equibase Speed Figs for this event. Always good to invest in a conditioner with this kind of very good win percentage - 38 percent - at this distance & surface. Will most likely compete solidly in the pace contest which bodes well with this group. ENTICING SHAQ - Looks very strong to be on the lead at the first call. EL CHEAPO - Must be carefully examined given the class of races run lately. Will make a strong performance versus this group.
