The Washington Nationals have quietly gone 9-1 in their last 10 games overall. They have scored a combined 27 runs during their four-game winning streak. And they should get after Cody Poteet and the struggling Miami Marlins tonight.
The Marlins are one of the worst offensive teams in baseball and have been held to 4 runs or fewer in nine of their last 11 games overall. They are 2-7 in their last nine contests. Poteet is 0-2 with an 8.43 ERA and 1.781 WHIP in his last three starts coming in.
Joe Ross has been at his best on the road this season with a 3.76 ERA in eight starts away from home. Ross has posted a 2.37 ERA and 0.842 WHIP in his three June starts this month. He has also posted a 3.10 ERA in four career starts against Miami.
The Nationals are 8-0 in their last eight games vs. a right-handed starter. The Marlins are 1-10 in their last 11 games when their opponent scored 5 runs or more in their previous game. Miami is 18-43 in its last 61 games after scoring 2 runs or less in its previous game. Washington is 43-16 in the last 59 meetings. Bet the Nationals Thursday.Comment

Thursday MLB Free play. My selection is on Miami over Washington at 7:10 pm et on Thursday.
These two teams appear to be heading in opposite directions right now but I like the Marlins to get back on track in Thursday's series-opener at home against the Nationals.
Joe Ross will get the start for Washington. To say that he's struggled in nighttime starts this season would be an understatement. Ross has posted a 9.53 ERA and 1.72 WHIP in five nighttime outings, with the Nationals winning just one of those contests. Behind Ross is a Nats' bullpen that has had a tough time on the road, posting a collective 4.80 ERA and 1.41 WHIP with eight converted saves compared to five blown.
Cody Poteet will counter for Miami. He's been good but certainly not great for the Fish so far this season. However, it's worth noting that he's made just one start here at home and it was a good one. In that outing he tossed seven innings of three-hit, shutout ball. He'll have the built-in advantage of facing the Nats' for the first time in his career tonight.
The Miami bullpen has been considerably better at home than on the road this season, recording a collective 3.18 ERA and 1.12 WHIP with seven converted saves and four blown. Over their last seven games, the Marlins relief corps has been lights out, posting a 1.96 ERA and 0.93 WHIP. Take Miami (8*).Comment

This is just too good a price to not throw a little on the Cubs in Thursday's series opener against the Dodgers. Yes LA's Walker Buehler is better than Chicago's Zach Davies, but not to the point the Cubs are more than a +200 dog.
One thing to keep in mind here is LA could be a little flat here after just finishing up a 6-game road trip on Wednesday, with the last 3 against the Padres. While Buehler is not to blame, it's worth noting that the Dodgers have lost each of his 3 career starts against the Cubs, including a start back in early May.
Also, with Davies, he's actually been pretty good outside of a few starts. In his last 10 starts, he's given up 2 or fewer runs in 7 of those outings. Give me the Cubs +208!Comment

He is 7-0 with a 2.38 ERA and 0.90 WHIP in 14 starts this season, and 3-0 with a 0.89 ERA and 0.74 WHIP in his last three starts. Buehler has posted a 2.41 ERA and 0.70 WHIP in three previous starts against the Cubs as well. The Dodgers need him to get them back on track tonight after getting swept by the Padres last night and I expect him to deliver. Zach Davies is 1-2 with a 5.40 ERA and 1.77 WHIP in seven road starts this season for the Cubs. Davies is 0-3 with a 4.50 ERA in his last three starts against the Dodgers as well.
