The Miami Marlins were a NL-worst 57-105 but somehow worked through a major COVID outbreak at the start of 2020 to finish 31-29 and make the NL's expanded playoff field, ending a 16-season postseason drought. The Philadelphia Phillies made FIVE straight postseason appearances from 2007-11, reaching two World Series (won in 2008 and lost in 2009) but missed the postseason for the NINTH straight time in 2020 (not a SINGLE winning season in that span!). Neither team seems headed for the postseason in 2021. Miami has lost 19 of its last 28 to fall into last-place in the NL East at 33-44, while Philadelphia has dropped NINE of its last 13 games to fall to 36-40. Philly's loss on Monday was particularly maddening, as the Reds scored four runs in the seventh inning and then added six more in the eighth to beat the Phillies 12-4.
Miami opens a six-game road trip Tuesday night in Philadelphia, sending rookie Trevor Rogers (7-4, 2.08 ERA) to the mound to face Philadelphia veteran Vince Velasquez (2-2, 4.74 ERA). Rogers made seven starts last season (pitched just 28 innings) and was awful, posting a 6.11 ERA and 1.61 WHIP. However, Rogers has been one of the top pitchers in the NL all season with a 2.08 ERA and 1.04 WHIP. He's made 15 starts but the Marlins are only 8-7 in those starts. Velasquez is a journeyman, going 30-37 with a 4.72 ERA in 146 career appearances (117 starts). He's made 15 appearances this season, including 11 starts in which the Phillies have gone 6-5.
I just like Philly coming off losing last night by allowing 10 runs in the 7th and 8th innings. As for Velasquez, he's made 18 career starts vs Miami (team is 9-9), going 5-4 with a 4.54 ERA. He beat them 2-0 in Miami on May 25 when he threw six shutout innings. As for Rogers he is 1-1 with a 5.74 ERA in three career starts vs Philly (team is 2-1). The Phillies are a solid 21-14 at home, while the Marlins are 15-26 on the road..

The Yankees (-139) is worth a look as a home favorite against the Angels in Tuesday's MLB action. Really good price here to back New York at home against an Angels team that hasn't been great on the road. I also like the Yankees here with Jameson Taillon on the mound. While he's got a very poor 5.18 ERA in 14 starts this season, he's got a very strong 3.04 ERA and 1.035 WHIP in 9 home starts. Play New York -139!
