The Key: I've been fading the Rangers a lot lately, including a win yesterday on the Astros -1.5. But I like the price we are getting on the Rangers today and believe they have a good chance of ending their losing streak. Ace Kyle Gibson gets the ball for the Rangers tonight and he is 6-2 with a 2.86 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 18 starts this year. Gibson is 4-2 with a 2.41 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in 12 lifetime starts against Houston as well. That includes 1-0 with a 1.06 ERA in his last 5 starts against the Astros while yielding only 4 earned runs in 34 innings. Framber Valdez is 1-1 with a 5.14 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in 3 lifetime starts against the Rangers. Take Texas.

With the Astros favored on the moneyline, we're able to get an extra +1.5 runs with the Rangers for roughly a pick'em price. With Gibson on the mound, I feel that's providing us with fair value. Gibson struggled against Detroit his last two outings. However, those starts against the Tigers notwithstanding, he's been consistently getting it done all season. In three starts against Houston, he's allowed 1, 1 and 2 runs while going six, six and seven innings. So, four runs in 19 innings. Prior to the games against Detroit, the Rangers were 5-2 in Gibson's previous seven starts, one of the two losses coming by a single run. The Astros lost Valdez's last start, as he gave up two HR's. His previous start was a 1-run win. His last two starts vs Texas were also 1-run games. Consider Texas on the run-line.

The 58-39 Chicago White Sox lead the AL Central by NINE games (largest division lead in MLB), while the Milwaukee Brewers lead the NL Central by 6 1/2-games, the second-largest division lead. The two first-place teams opened a three-game series last night at Miller Park with the Brewers winning 7-1. Milwaukee used a six-run seventh inning (featuring a grand slam) to snap a five-game home losing streak, while Chicago was held to five hits in the loss.
Two of MLB 2021's stingiest pitchers are scheduled to square off on Saturday, as Carlos Rodon (8-3, 2.14 ERA) will be opposed by Corbin Burnes (5-4, 2.16 ERA). Rodon owns a .0.90 WHIP and a .177 BAA, while Burnes also owns a 0.90 WHIP and his BAA is .198. Rodon opened 5-0 with a 0.58 ERA through five starts (including a no-hitter on April 14) but then went just 1-3 over his next nine starts (team was 4-5). However, he comes into this one off back-to-back wins, allowing just one ER over 13 innings (0.69 ERA). Burnes went just 2-4 with a 2.33 ERA over his first eight starts but Milwaukee lost all four of his no-decisions (2-6 in team starts). However, he has yet to lose over his last eight starts (3-0), with Milwaukee going 6-2 in those starts.
Looking for an angle? Rodon owns a 1.69 ERA on the road, about ONE run less than his home ERA of 2.59. Meanwhile, Burnes has a 2.63 home ERA, about ONE run higher than his road ERA of 1.61. Let me also add that Milwaukee faces a VERY tough lefty in Rodon and the Brewers are just 10-10 (averaging 3.2 RPG) against all left-handers in 2021. Breaking it down further, Milwaukee is just 2-6 while averaging a puny 2.9 RPG in their eight home night games vs a lefty. Take the White Sox.

Saturday MLB Free play. My selection is on San Francisco -1.5 runs over Pittsburgh at 9:05 pm et on Saturday.
The Pirates stunned the Giants 6-4 in the opener of this series last night but perhaps that was to be expected as San Francisco was clearly in a letdown spot off a wild series against the rival Dodgers that saw it take three of four games.
Here, I look for the Giants to bounce back behind their ace Kevin Gausman. He wasn't particularly sharp in his most recent outing but that came against the Dodgers (his third time facing them in less than two months). The last time we saw him face the Pirates he allowed only one earned run while striking out 12 over eight innings. Gausman has been outstanding here at home this season, posting a 2.25 ERA and 0.67 WHIP in seven starts with the Giants winning five of those games.
Behind Gausman is one of the best bullpens in baseball. The Giants relief corps has posted a collective 3.31 ERA and 1.11 WHIP with 18 saves converted and only four blown at home this season.
William Crowe will counter for Pittsburgh. The Giants already saw him once this season, scoring three earned runs on six hits over five innings back in May. That's about par for the course for Crowe, who owns a 6.52 ERA and 1.52 WHIP in six road starts this season. You would have to go back to May 8th to find the last time he lasted at least six innings in a start. That spells trouble as the Buccos bullpen entered last night's action sporting a 5.17 ERA and 1.37 WHIP on the road this season.
While I don't like to lay an extra run too often, it's worth noting that each of the Giants last nine wins have come by at least two runs. Take San Francisco -1.5 runs.
