My “Cutting Room Floor” plays are the situations I considered the closest to being worthy of investment but did not make the “final cut” for my official plays today for subscribers. The last play I cut for Thursday is with Under the Total in the game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Pittsburgh Steelers. With the Total being bet down from 33 to the 31.5 range, the bookies are begging for Over bets. Don’t take the bait. Offenses are behind the defenses with these teams just two weeks into training camp. This will be a battle of back-ups with neither Dak Prescott nor Ben Roethlisberger playing tonight. Five of the last eight Pro Football Hall of Fame Games have seen 30 or fewer combined points scored — and only two of those 16 teams scored in the 20s. Take the Under. Best of luck — Frank.

I'll gladly take my chances with the UNDER 9.5 in Thursday's series opener between the Twins and Astros. I definitely think there's a good chance Houston comes out a bit flat in this one, as they just finished up a 8-game west coast trip with 2 massive games at the Dodgers.
I also think there's value here with Minnesota starter Griffin Jax. He got roughed up a bit in his first start at the Royals, but has allowed just 2 runs on 3 hits with 8 k's in 9 innings over his last 2 starts.
Houston turns to Framber Valdez. he's 7-2 with a 3.01 ERA in 12 starts. Valdez has only given up more than 3 runs in 2 starts all season. He's 2-0 with a 1.46 ERA in 2 starts against the Twins. One of those coming this season, where he allowed just 1 ER run in 7 innings at Minnesota. Give me the UNDER 9.5!

The Key: The St. Louis Cardinals just added Jon Lester and JA Happ prior to the deadline, two of the worst starters in baseball. They went bargain shopping and clearly aren't trying to win with those moves. Lester was rocked Tuesday in a 6-1 loss to the Braves, and Happ wasn't any better in a 7-4 loss to the Braves Wednesday. Now the Atlanta should jump on Wade LeBlanc tonight as well. LeBlanc is 0-2 with a 3.99 ERA and 1.67 WHIP in 7 starts this year while averaging just 4.2 innings per start. He has never beaten the Braves, going 0-3 with a 4.87 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 4 lifetime starts against them. Take Atlanta.

Thursday CFL Free play. My selection is on Hamilton minus the points over Winnipeg at 8:30 pm et on Thursday.

I'll be honest, at first glance, I liked the Blue Bombers grabbing north of a field goal in their home opener as they begin defense of the 2019 Grey Cup title (finally). But after further consideration, I believe the Tiger-Cats are favored for a reason here and now that the line has dropped to a field goal, I'll lay the points with the Tabbies.

Hamilton was for all intents and purposes the CFL's best team in 2019. That was until the Grey Cup title game, when it buckled under Winnipeg's defensive pressure and went out with a whimper. Here, I look for the Ti-Cats to gain an ounce of revenge.

Both teams are dealing with some key injuries. However, I like the continuity on Hamilton's side with Jeremiah Masoli back under center running the same offense he's become comfortable with in recent years. On the flip side, Winnipeg QB Zach Collaros, who has missed plenty of time due to injuries in recent years, is dealing with a new offensive coordinator in Buck Pierce after Paul LaPolice bolted to take the Ottawa head coaching job.

While Hamilton lost a number of key cogs on the defensive side of the football, this is still an extremely talented, well-coached group led by elite LB Simoni Lawrence. This is certainly a matchup it can handle with Winnipeg missing its engine, RB Andrew Harris. I'll also point out that the Blue Bombers boast a below-average receiving corps as far as I'm concerned.

It's important to factor in special teams as well as the Ti-Cats have arguably the best ST unit in the entire league orchestrated by coach Jeff Reinebold. Hamilton's return game can flip the script on a dime and I certainly expect it to factor into the outcome on Thursday night. Take Hamilton.
