Friday's Free MLB Pick is on the Colorado Rockies as a +125 home dog against the Atlanta Braves. Great price here to back Colorado at home, where the Rockies have gone a solid 43-23 this season. Even more so with a guy like Antonio Senzatela on the mound. He's been really good of late, posting a 1.35 ERA and 0.850 WHIP in his last 3 starts. Most recently throwing 7 shutout innings in LA against the red-hot Dodgers. Atlanta's Huascar Ynoa has also pitched well of late, but there's one big thing here working against Ynoa. My “Cutting Room Floor” plays are the situations I considered the closest to being worthy of investment but did not make the “final cut” for my official plays today for subscribers. The last play I cut for Friday was with Under the Total in the game between the Michigan State Spartans and the Northwestern Wildcats. Michigan State (0-0) gave up a school-record 35.1 PPG last season — but Mel Tucker’s impact on this program will most quickly be felt on the defensive side of the football. The former Alabama and Georgia defensive coordinator has the benefit of a full offseason to develop players and implement his schemes after COVID restricted practice time in his first year with the program. The Spartans have five of their top six tacklers from last season — and that unit was 10th in the FBS by holding their opponents to rushing for more than 10 yards on a carry in just 9.3% of their attempts. Michigan State has played 9 of their last 13 games on the road Under the Total — and they have played 7 of their last 10 road games Under the Total when an underdog. Northwestern (0-0) only allowed 15.9 PPG last season — but they scored just 24.7 PPG. They host this Big Ten opener for both teams — and the Under is 40-18-1 in their last 59 games when they are playing in Evanston. Friday is a complete pass for me but the one that came closest was the Blue Jays. I love Alek Manoah and I think this is a good spot. Had this been in the -110 to -120 range it would have been a play. Just too expensive for me at -150 (and now higher some places)
