MLB | Rays vs Red Sox
Play on: Red Sox -131 at SC Consensus

FREE PICK - Boston Red Sox -131
    RATING: 30*
    ROT#: 916
I'll take my chances with the Red Sox as a slim -131 home favorite against the Rays on Monday. Easy play here with Boston at this price. Chris Sale will be on the mound for the Red Sox and he's been in midseason form in his return from injury. Sale has made 4 starts and has posted a 2.53 ERA and 1.125 WHIP. He hasn't given up more than 2 runs in any start and seems to be getting stronger with each outing.
Rays will have Ryan Yarbrough on the mound and he's got a 4.79 ERA in 19 starts with a 5.40 ERA and 1.400 WHIP in his last 3 starts. The other big thing with Yarbrough is his history with the Red Sox. Yarbrough has a 6.53 ERA and 1.331 WHIP in 8 starts vs Boston (allowed 16 R in 16 innings over 3 starts vs them this year). Give me the Red Sox -131!

      MLB | Phillies vs Brewers
Play on: Phillies +1½ -168 at pinnacle

Woodruff is tough. No question about it. However, for the most part, Wheeler has been too. He's 11-9 with a 3.01 ERA and 1.029 WHIP on the season. He also averages nearly seven innings per outing. In fact, he's thrown more innings than any other pitcher in baseball this season. Speaking of throwing a lot of innings, these same starters opposed each other back in the spring. Woodruff pitched very well but Wheeler was even better. All he did was toss a complete-game 3-hit shutout. Philadelphia won 2-0. He struck out eight without walking a single batter. The Brewers are off a thrilling 1-run win. The Phillies have seen three of their last four, including each of their last two, decided by a single run. In what could be another close one, consider grabbing the extra +1.5 runs with Wheeler and the Phillies.

Big total placed down on this game by the oddsmakers, as we are looking at a total of 76 points or so as I type my analysis, but even with a total this tall I say that the Cardinals and the Rebels eclipse the posted price.

These teams didn't play all that much defense last season and I do not think this opening week contest is going to be a 10-7 defensive slugfest when the final seconds tick off the clock.

Louisville opened last year by combining with Miami/Florida for 81 total points and an easy Over as they landed Over in 7 of their 10 games last year, including 5 of their final 7 on the season.

Ole Miss also opened their season a year ago with a combined 86 points in their loss to Florida as the Rebels played 6 of their10 games a season ago Over the posted price, including 3 of their last 5 on the season.

With a pair of experienced quarterbacks in Malik Cunningham and Matt Corral back for another year under center and this game being played indoors, have to expect the points to flow fast and furious.

            Cardinals-Rebels combine on an Over.

            3* LOUISVILLE-OLE MISS OVER

My free play for Labor Day is the Los Angeles Angels over the Texas Rangers.

It's the final game on the card, so plenty of time to get in on this one, as the Halos close out the holiday with a win in Anaheim.

I see how Jaime Barria responded to a rough August, by closing out the month with a solid showing against the streaking New York Yankees. After the Angels lost his previous four starts, during which he went 0-2, Barria stymied the pinstripes to two runs on six hits in 4 1/3 innings. Three of those first four outings, though, were at home. His starts against the Yankees, which the Angels won, was in Anaheim.

Barria is 1-1 with a 2.50 ERA in four home outings (three starts. Much better than his 7.97 road ERA in five appearances (four starts).

The Angels and Rangers are wrapping their four-game series on this holiday night, and since Texas ruined the Halos' chances of a sweep by winning 7-3 Sunday, I like the revenge in this one. The Angels won the first two games, and has belted four home runs in the last two games.

Look for it all to come together in this one, as the Halos roll to an easy win.

              5* ANGELS

Their 13 game winning streak is most definitely a thing of the past, as the New York Yankees limp into this big series with the hard-charging Toronto Blue Jays having lost 6 of their last 8 games. That includes somehow losing 2 of 3 over the weekend to the horrible Baltimore Orioles!

The Blue Jays are making their move with wins in 4 straight and in 7 of their last 8 games overall.

Jameson Taillon is just 1-1 in a pair of career starts versus Toronto with an ERA of 6.52, look for him to struggle against a Blue Jays lineup that has plated 29 runs over their last 3 games and has scored 5 runs or better in 4 straight games and in 5 of their last 6 games overall.

Toronto is hot, New York is not.

                Take the Jays.

                4* TORONTO

The Orioles just won their personal 2021 World Series. Baltimore has been the worst team in the game by a pretty big margin but this past weekend was their high point of the entire campaign. They knocked off the Yankees on Sunday in comeback fashion to win the weekend series. I see this Labor Day game with the Royals being a total flat spot. It's really as simple as that for me. There aren't many opportunities to catch a team like Baltimore in a letdown spot but that looks like the case to me in this game and I'm fine with spotting a short price on the Royals to win the F5 innings.

                    Take Minnesota (#917)
Very quietly, waaaaaay underneath the radar, the Twins have played pretty good baseball over the last month They’ve won series against the White Sox, Astros, Rays and Brewers – all first place teams – during this span. They beat the first place Rays to close out their series in Tampa yesterday. Minnesota starter Bailey Ober has been rock solid, allowing a grand total of ten earned runs in his last seven outings, throwing more than 36 innings of work during that span. Even with the Tribe coming off a win on Sunday, right now, the Twins are better of these two teams and Ober is the better of these two starters – Minnesota is road chalk here for good reason. Take the Twins.

#12 Klickitat-came off a 5 month layoff and missed by a neck then came right back and got the score. He then missed the repeat last out by just a length after being in tight late which may have cost him the score. He likes this course winning 2 of 5 with a second and will be a good price.

#7 La Hara-came off a 6 month layoff last out and finished second beaten only 2 ¼ lengths. He is coming off another layoff but runs well fresh and Brown is hitting at 24%.

#6 Cold Hard Cash-finished right with our top pick in back to back then got the score in his first start over this course two back. He missed the repeat last out by just a neck here and should run into the payoffs.

#2 King Cause-won 3 of 5 last year with a second. He is coming off a 13 month layoff but is working well, gets I.Ortiz and should be close from the start.
