The Phillies have a big advantage on the mound tonight with Ranger Suarez, who is 1-1 with a 1.71 ERA in seven starts this season, including 1-0 with a 1.42 ERA in four home starts. He'll be opposed by Antonio Senzatela, who is 1-6 with a 4.56 ERA and 1.481 WHIP in 10 road starts.

Remember when the Yankees moved to the top of the wild-card race by putting together a 13-game win streak last month? You can forget it now. Those aren't the same Yankees. New York has dropped nine of its last 11 games, including the past five. During their last 11 games, the Yankees have been held to four or fewer runs nine times. Toronto now is the hot team. The Blue Jays have won seven in a row and 10 of their last 11 games. The Blue Jays are 7-2 playing at Yankee Stadium this season and going for a four-game sweep in this matchup. Yet the Blue Jays are an underdog. Huh? It's not the pitching matchup either. The Blue Jays have Jose Berrios, a solid No. 2 type starter going. He's 2-0 with a 2.64 ERA in his past two starts. My “Cutting Room Floor” plays are the situations I considered the closest to being worthy of investment but did not make the “final cut” for my official plays today for subscribers. The last play I cut for Thursday is with the Philadelphia Phillies with the money-line versus the Colorado Rockies listing both starting pitchers Ranger Suarez and Antonio Senzatela. Philadelphia (71-68) has lost their last two games after their 4-3 loss at Milwaukee yesterday. The Phillies return home for the first time since August 29th — and they have won 7 of their last 9 home games after being on the road for at least seven days. Philadelphia has also won 4 of their last 5 home games against teams with a losing record. Colorado (63-77) has lost four in a row after their 7-4 loss to San Francisco yesterday. The Rockies go back on the road where they have lost 51 of their last 69 games. Colorado has also lost 4 in a row as an underdog. Take Philadelphia with the money-line listing Suarez and Senzatela. This has been a low-scoring series all the way with the first three games all staying 'under' the total. I expect that to continue on Thursday as the Jays send Jose Berrios to the mound in search of the series sweep. Note that the 'under' has gone 18-7 with the Jays playing on the road off consecutive 'under' results over the last two seasons with that situation producing an average total of just 7.6 runs. Meanwhile, the Yankees have seen the 'under' cash at a 20-11 clip when playing with double revenge this season, as is the case here, with that spot producing an average total of 7.7 runs. Like the Jays, the Yanks have trended to the 'under' off consecutive 'under' results with that situation cashing at a 26-17 clip this season, good for an average total of just 7.8 runs. Take the under.

I'll lay the -115 on the -1.5 run line with the Braves on Thursday. Atlanta will be finishing up a 3-game series at home against the Nationals. While Washington was able to pull out a 4-2 win to even the series on Wednesday, that only makes me like Atlanta more in this spot. No question we get a max effort here from the home team.
More times than not you need both good pitching and good offense to cash a run line play. We got both in this matchup. Washington's going to send out Erick Fedde, who has a 5.27 ERA and 1.486 WHIP in 23 starts. He's also not in great form with a 6.14 ERA and 1.774 WHIP in his last 3 starts. Could be a real problem here for the Nationals after they basically had a full on bullpen day to get thru yesterday's game.
Atlanta will have Huascar Ynoa on the mound. He gave up 4 runs in just 5 2/3 innings in his last start, but that was on the road at one of the toughest places to pitch in Coors Field. Ynoa hadn't allowed more than 3 ER in any of his previous 3 starts. He's got a 2.29 ERA and 0.821 WHIP in 6 home starts, 219 ERA and 0.844 WHIP in 9 night starts and a 0.61 ERA and 0.750 WHIP in 5 games vs division opponents this year. Give me the Braves -1.5, -115!
