                      N.Y. YANKEES @ N.Y. METS | 09/11 | 7:40 PM EDT
                      N.Y. YANKEES -125
ANALYSIS: Enough of this garbage Yankees. It’s 9/11, in New York, and the Yankees ride a seven-game losing streak and hold only a half-game lead for the last AL wild card. Corey Kluber still looks shaky with the Yankees, losing 8-7 in both starts since his return. The Mets won Taijuan Walker’s last start even though he gave up six runs, which ended the Mets' seven-game losing streak behind him. The bet is against Walker; Yankees to win.

                      SAN DIEGO ST. +110
ANALYSIS: The perception change after each team’s first game is astounding. Arizona loses to a dull and bored BYU squad at Las Vegas, while San Diego State didn’t cover -31 in its 28-10 win at New Mexico State, which led 10-0 at the half. Aztecs RB Greg Bell is going to eat the clock, move the chains and he’ll be led by one of the biggest and best offensive lines in the country. The Aztecs should be -6 here. Take SDSU to win outright.

                      BUFFALO +13.5
ANALYSIS: Buffalo got everyone some playing time last week in a 69-7 win against Wagner, covering -43.5. Most important is the new guys stepped up big on offense. The Bulls have five quality breakaway RBs led by senior Kevin Marks. Almost all of the O-line is back that opened huge holes last season. Nebraska is just another game now. Let’s give the Huskers 4.5 points for home field (it is in Lincoln) and only a 4-point neutral-field edge. I took the points on Buffalo, which may win outright.

                      MEMPHIS -5
ANALYSIS: Memphis ran for 324 yards last week against Nicholls and true freshman QB Seth Henigan managed a good game in passing for 265 yards and no picks. He should have done enough to keep the starting job with Arizona transfer Grant Gunnell believing the gig was his. Arkansas State getting a lot of respect here but can't pass up the small number.

                        RUTGERS @ SYRACUSE | 09/11 | 2:00 PM EDT
                        RUTGERS -2.5
ANALYSIS: Syracuse was actually a short dog at MAC school Ohio in Week 1 and the Orange won 29-9 thanks to 283 yards rushing. That's not happening against a Rutgers defense that allowed 3.1 yards per carry in a 61-14 blowout of Temple and which also forced five turnovers. Also, top SU fullback/tight end Chris Elmore, who is a stellar blocker to open up those running holes and a senior leader, is expected to miss another game. Dating to his first run at Rutgers, the Knights have won 18 of their past 21 non-conference games under Greg Schiano. They also are 5-0 ATS in their past five on the road overall.

                        UAB @ GEORGIA | 09/11 | 3:30 PM EDT
                        UNDER 46
ANALYSIS: This feels like a trap game of sorts for Georgia as it was beaten to a pulp physically by Clemson -- and now comes word that Dawgs QB JT Daniels may not play. I liked the Under regardless because that UGA defense should shut down UAB, and the Blazers are a fine defensive club, too -- plus on a few days extra rest to prepare. I struggle to see these clubs combining for 40 points.

                        AIR FORCE @ NAVY | 09/11 | 3:30 PM EDT
                        AIR FORCE -5.5
ANALYSIS: Now that this has dropped back under 6, let's take it. Air Force obliterated Navy 40-7 last September and with nine AFA defensive starters back, it's hard to see the Middies doing much better than seven points again. That's what they were held to last week in a blowout home loss to Marshall. Air Force rushed for 370 yards in an easy season-opening win over Lafayette in a glorified scrimmage. I have yet to find a model that has Air Force winning by less than a TD -- SportsLine's has it Falcons by 12. The home team has won the past seven in this series. That ends.

                        MEMPHIS -5.5
ANALYSIS: Memphis beat visiting Arkansas State by 13 to open the 2020 season. The Tigers continue to lose head coaches to Power 5 schools but keep rolling along -- they were 8-3 in Ryan Silverfield's first season at the helm of the program in 2020. Memphis is one of only five FBS programs with at least eight wins each of the last seven seasons. Both clubs opened this year with wins over FCS foes, but it's a bit concerning that A-State was down 7-6 at the half to Central Arkansas. It's the first season as Red Wolves coach for Butch Jones, who is rotating QBs (usually not a good thing). Various models have the Tigers at least a TD better -- SportsLine's has them winning by 11 -- so we'll take 5.5. Memphis is 5-2 ATS in its past seven non-conference games.

4 unit Northern Illinois (+7.0) over Wyoming –
Wyoming is coming off an opening week match-up, in which they were a 19 point favorite vs. Montana St, and they barely squeaked out a W, putting up only 19 points themselves! They are 1-4 ATS in the L5 week 2 games and this may not be the best scenario to try and turn the tide. Northern Illinois is coming off the upset W vs. Georgia Tech last week and with the veteran transfer QB from Michigan State may be exactly what this team needs to keep its head on straight coming off a big upset W. As a 19 point underdog the transfer went down the field at the end of the game, when it mattered, and sealed the W on the final 38 yard drive. The Freshman RB, Waylee, was the offensive star and took some of the eyes off of the QB, putting up 144 yards and a TD was a nice addition to an 11-17 passing day for that QB.

                                  2 unit Rutgers (-130) over Syracuse –
This Rutger's team forced (& capitalized) 5 Temple turnovers, and absolutely shut down the Temple offense when it really mattered, holding them to 3-15 on 3rd & 4th down conversion opportunities. This offense has also been revitalized with an uptempo approach, with 6 TD drives totaling at 2 minutes and 30 seconds or less! While Syracuse took one step in the right direction last week, this is still the first time in the L9 weeks that they are coming off a W, and I am weary to see if 6.4 yards/carry can continue to another opponent, seeing as the rush game has been a point of struggle in recent years.

Iowa has been at the wheel for the recent years of this H2H match-up with the Cyclones. In the L7 games, the Cyclones have only scored over 17 points once, and that might be a necessity to beat this Hawkeyes team, yet Iowa State couldn't put up more then 17 points vs. a Northern Iowa team last week. Iowa, on the other hand, made a real first impression on this season in last weeks game vs. Indiana, the Hawkeye's defense came out HOT, forcing 3 first half interceptions (2 RT'D for TD), allowing only 233 total yards, and holding the Hoosier's to 2.5 yards per carry!

4 unit Cincinnati Reds (-121) over St. Louis Cardinals (Castillo/Mikolas) –
Luis Castillo has had a crazy year, but a record and ERA like he has may not be as surprising when you look at the fact that 20 out of 29 pitchers that went against Castillo have an ERA under 4.00. He isn't going up against mediocre talent, and in his L15 starts Castillo has posted an ERA under 3.00, along with his L3 starts against the Cardinals, he is 2-1 with a 2.37 ERA, and in his L6 as a F vs. RHP the Reds are 5-1! Cincinnati has also faired very well in the second game of a series in a divisional series, they are 10-2 in game 2 (including 5-1 on the road), but all-in-all, the Reds have played some of their best ball vs. division opponents, going 23-10 as a F, 16-6 on the road vs. the division (including 11-5 vs. RHP), and they are 23-10 as a F vs. divisional opponents. St Louis on the other hand has an inexperienced arm on the mound (while he has past experience, this year it is limited to just 5 starts, with an ERA over 5.00), the Cardinals are also 6-13 @ H vs. divisional opponents (including 3-9 in game 2 of a divisional series) and the Cards are 1-10 vs. a SP w/ ERA > 4.00 w/ a line > 106!
