Al Cimaglia: Delaware County Fair Little Brown Jug Eliminations

      September 23, 2021 | By Al Cimaglia
The Little Brown Jug Final rolls in the finale, Race 20 and the Eliminations are carded as Race 16 and Race 17. The top four finishers in each Elimination return for the Final. Handicapping elimination races are always a challenge but especially so when they happen on the same card as the final. The track was sloppy on Wednesday and the weather may not fully cooperate today.

      Race 15-Ohio Breeders Championship-Purse $132,667

1-Gulf Shores (7/5)-This colt is 5 for 5 and looks a cut above the rest. Has done well on an off-track if that is the case and doesn't have to lead every step of the way to win. Most likely will be bet down off the morning line and looks like a winner with a decent trip.
5-Tre Cruz (8-1)-With this post draw Brett Miller could have this Yankee Cruiser 2-year-old in play. Should be there at the wire and if #1 has a sub-par performance it could be picture time. Also, has a 1-1 record on an off-track.
6-Sling Shock (6-1)-Team Noble pupil likes to win, has taken 4 pictures in 7 starts. Could be on the point early in the mile and if Noble can steal a quarter the stage could be set for an upset at a nice price.

      Race 16-1st Brown Jug Elimination-Purse $132,360

2-Lou's Pearlman (2-1)-Burke trainee has been razor sharp winning the last 3 starts and it would be no surprise if the streak continued here. Gingras has gate speed to use and is the one to beat.
5-Whichwaytothebeach (3-1)-Competed well in the last 2 up at Mohawk versus tough foes and should relish the return to a smaller oval. AMac is reunited with this Pelling trainee and that won't hurt. Does have enough gate speed to be forwardly placed in the pocket behind #2.
1-Borntobeshameless (9/2)-Not sure if starting from the rail helps but will respect Team Noble. This 3-year-old was a late bloomer and had a fine sophomore season. Should be in the mix for qualifying if minds manners.
4-Mysweetboymax (6-1)-Max has hit the board in 9 of 14 starts but has taken only 1 picture. Merriman could keep him in striking range and has a chance to hit the bottom of the ticket and qualify. Has faced some tough competition on smaller ovals.

      Race 17-2nd Brown Jug Elimination-Purse $132,360

6-Perfect Sting (2-1)-The question is will Miller blasts out to take control. If so, he could wire this field, but this is the more difficult of the 2 eliminations. Getting a prime post draw for the Final matters but what is more important is to have enough left in the tank. So, Miller may see how the start plays out before trying for the lead.
3-I'll Drink To That (4-1)-Tetrick hasn't had success at the Fair in the biggest races, but he did win the Jugette for the first time yesterday. Miller will stick with Perfect Sting for the Final and Tetrick could have an opportunity for another first. This Ryder trainee comes off a 2-race win streak and this could be a big day for this son of American Ideal.
1-Rockyroad Hanover (7/2)-Dunn should keep the Alagna trainee in play and has a good chance to qualify. But needs the right trip to win so would rather use underneath.
2-American Courage (6-1)-Recent form has been so-so but this colt might wake up on the half-mile track. Could be a gimmick possibility here and if draws well might make some noise in the Final at a price.

      1/2,5/3,6
      Total Bet=$32

Jeff Siegel's National Prime Plays for 9/23/21

        September 23, 2021
Gulfstream Park – Race 3. Post time: 1:54 ET
        4 – Alecka Star (4-1)

Has win-early breeding (Majesticperfection) and a short but noteworthy work tab leading up to her debut in this maiden-special-weight sprint for older fillies and mares. There is nothing among the known element with better than par speed figures for this level and the M. Yates-trained sophomore shows a pair of bullet workouts (among only three that are listed), including a recent five furlong breezing gate drill (1:00 flat) 12 days ago that was the fastest of 36 for the distance over the Gulfstream Park main track. The barn has strong stats with first-time starters and the stable’s “go-to” rider M. Vasquez takes the call, so at 4-1 on the morning line this Florida-bred filly appears to offer excellent wagering value.

        *

Gulfstream Park – Race 5. Post time: 2:56 ET
        4 – Wandering (7/2)

Juvenile fillies sprint six furlongs in an open fray that brings out this well-regarded daughter of Malibu Moon from the hot T. Proctor stable. The first foal from a stakes-placed half-sister to the top class (and current Breeders’ Cup Distaff favorite) Latruska, she has done some excellent work in the a.m. including bullet workouts in two of her most recent three morning trials. This trainer/jockey combo has been red hot of late, so let’s go with this debuting high-potential type in the win pool and in rolling exotic play and hope to get close to her morning line of 7/2.

AI Picks: Belmont Pick 6 Carryover | Thursday, Sept. 23

              September 22, 2021 | By Jeremy Plonk

The Belmont Park racing week kicks off Thursday with a $74,000-plus carryover in the pick six. The $1 minimum bet is a traditional pick six in that there’s no single-ticket jackpot provision. To assist your handicapping, stakes selections provided by the 1/ST BET app measure each contender against the 10 leading factors for each race. The 1/ST BET app looks at 52 handicapping factors and more than 200,000 past races to determine its AI selections.

You can use the automated handicapping factors, or create your own factor filters to incorporate angles you prefer. Full-card selections can be found in the 1/ST BET app. We’ve included the official track morning line odds with each runner.

                #8
                Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

Presque Isle Downs - Race #3
#4 Whistler Dixie Stretchout player hasn't stayed that well in previous route tries, but she seems like a good fit here off the claim, and she should be able to control the early tempo while stepping up for the new team.
#6 Jean V's Legacy Dropper has really taken to the local footing, and she should be able to work out a decent tracking trip from this wide draw. The one to beat with this softer group.
#3 Somewhere Golden She didn't show a ton in her only local try, but that came with better company than she is going to find in this spot, and she seems capable enough if things go her way. Worry she may be an underlay.
Race Summary Whistler Dixie has sprint pace while stretching out, and she has a right to be tough on the engine while moving up in class for a capable claiming barn.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #6
#4 Extrasexybigdaddee He ran well in his only local try, and he figures to be a handful with anything similar against this group. He has some class to him with decent stakes tries in the past, and he should be able to handle these.
#2 McSteamy I don't fully trust him to run back to that good effort last time out for a winless jockey/trainer team, but he's as likely as any of these once you get past the top choice.
#5 Pratt His form isn't all that reliable, but he has the right kind of running style to find a good trip while right up on the splits. If some of these are spinning their wheels late, he may be able to stick around for a piece at a price.
Race Summary Extrasexybigdaddee didn't miss by much with similar a couple starts back, and he has some listed stakes quality that most of these lack. If he brings his best, the rest run for second.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #7
#5 Caramel Martini She has only missed the exacta twice from 11 local starts, and she has enough tactical pace to stay in touch early in a race without a ton of serious early speed. She's probably playable as the second choice here.
#2 Lexinator Like the top choice, she's fast enough out of the gate to to be in touch with whatever pace there is, and she has earned multiple stakes placings over the course. Beat her to score.
#6 Dana's Beauty The form is heading in the right direction, but her ceiling might be just a slight cut below the rest in here. She should get a good run of things from the outside, but I'm guessing she'll settle underneath today.
Race Summary Caramel Martini and Lexinator figure to take the cash here, but the former might offer a slightly better price with these while hoping to round into her very best form in this fourth start of the season.

                  Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

                  Yonkers - Race #2
#5 DEWEY HALL Gets plenty of pace to run at, one of two in field with win this year.
#3 DRAVEN HANOVER Got past loose leader but couldn't fend off rally by the favorite.
#1 SV ROYAL FLUSH Piling up the checks, mostly from outside posts, draws rail.
Race Summary With several trotters vying for forward position inside of him, Dewey Hall should work out a good trip in his second start locally and first with Bartlett driving. Don't like the 5-2 morning-line price, but we'll stick with him nonetheless. Play a 5/1,3/ALL trifecta.
                  Woodbine-Mohawk Park - Race #4
#5 ROCK N ZEUS Gapped off gate at start, ranged up with cover, evenly late in the stretch.
#2 MYINSIDEVOICE Blew stretch leads in last pair at this level, claimed by Moreau.
#7 GAMBLING PRINCE Should have ample pace flow to launch contending rally.
Race Summary Rock N Zeus rallied strongly for second off a six-month layoff, then left too much work to do in latest as the beaten favorite. He was several lengths removed from the gate, advanced on the final turn and was wide but willing in the stretch. Play 5-2 and 5-7 exactas.
                  Harrah's Philadelphia - Race #14
#3 TRENTE DEO Nowhere to run as outer flow developed, expect big effort on class drop.
#2 TECHTOPIA HANOVER Drops, draws favorably for third start of cycle, can top $100k.
#4 VOYAGER Hit board in more than half of starts but stands 1-31 since 2020.
Race Summary Trente Deo, trapped from mid-backstretch to mid-stretch behind the 1-to-5 pace setter and 4-1 winner, was wrapped up late. He is today's Best Bet on another class drop while seeking his 20th victory.

                    Jerry Shottenkirk's Daily Picks

                    Remington Park - Race #1
#7 Knighted Takes a class drop after three tries at maiden special weights; was second in his debut and can win if he runs back to that one.
#1 Brody's Streak Stablemate of top choice (from Calhoun barn) and logged a good work recently that signaled he's ready to give this game a go.
#3 Richard's Tx Bling Lost his chance in his debut when he was roughed up and pinched back at the start; it's only right to put a line through that one.
Race Summary Knighted has taken on good company and gets top rider Cabrera for his first local start.
                    Remington Park - Race #6
#6 Old Sot Was on the board in 3 of 5 at Evangeline and has been at this best on the turf; gets Cabrera for the ride.
#10 Really Slow Made an impressive late move and finished third in his first local start and a better start can make him a big player.
#4 Excalibur Ridge Has won only 1 of 30 but has enough late energy to loom as a threat to get into the exotics.
Race Summary Old Sot is a steady closer and had a pair of third-place finishes when he was at Remington in 2020; well spotted here.
                    Remington Park - Race #8
#3 Great Faces Was along for third in a fast 6.5-furlong race and can be successful in stretching out to two turns; he broke his maiden at a mile and followed with a sharp second in the Jim Thorpe Stakes here last year. He's set for his second start after a seven-month layoff.
#7 Dont Tell Nobody Beat one horse in his first one of the Remington season, but that was in a much stronger start than this; does well vs. state-breds and last year won the Classics Cup and Jim Thorpe. Hasn't been as sharp thus far this season but he's back to restricted company and should improve.
#5 Rockport Kat Won two handicaps at Fair Meadows and faded when he tried turf last out; has won a couple of races over the strip.
Race Summary Great Faces ran a decent third in his first since the Oaklawn season and should appreciate the distance of this one.

                            Laurel - Race #9 - Post: 4:39pm - Optional Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Turf. Purse: $56,000 Class Rating: 101

                            Rating:

                            #3 ARTHUR'S HOPE (ML=6/1)
                            #4 AIR TOKEN (ML=15/1)
                            #8 BAND ON TOUR (ML=5/2)
                            #5 CANNON'S ROAR (ML=8/5)

ARTHUR'S HOPE - Sophisticated selectors will tell you that this horse has strong speed. The recent bullet 47.8 work should put this horse on track for today's outing. AIR TOKEN - I think the shorter distance will help this gelding stay the trip. I always like to see a horse getting Lasix for the first time. Corrales adds it on this one today. BAND ON TOUR - Cruz was aboard this gelding last out and was impressed enough to take the equine right back. This jockey and trainer's equines have been generating a lucrative ROI. Capuano is good with horses moving to the turf for the first time. You have to figure this gelding is going to be in contention in this race. CANNON'S ROAR - Have to watch for this animal on the grass. Last race at Pimlico, scored a big turf fig. Have to think he can do it again in this event. Looking at this gelding's running lines, I see he's almost always in-the-money. This jockey fits well with this animal. The gelding and Marquez together win at a rate of 50 percent. I like the fact that this gelding's last speed rating, 99, is tops in this field. Last time out, finished fifth on the soft turf at Pimlico. I'd expect a better race in this race.

Vulnerable Contenders: #6 SO STREET (ML=9/5), #7 LOVE YOU MUCH (ML=6/1), #1 FACTOR IT IN (ML=8/1),

SO STREET - This gelding hasn't had any on the board results in sprint affairs in the last 60 days. LOVE YOU MUCH - Hasn't been close at all lately. A 'performance bounce' is likely to happen for this equine today. May rebound next time. FACTOR IT IN - 8/1 is not offering enough value for any horse in a sprint of 6 furlongs that hasn't finished in the money in a sprint contest of late. The sixth place finish position in the last event was not the best.

                              # 4 SOPHIE'S ANGEL 3/1
                              # 6 LETS RACE LADYS 8/1
SONG OF INDY looks strong to best this field. Should be considered a key contender on earnings per start at the distance/surface alone. She has recorded respectable figs under today's conditions and will most likely fare well against this group. Ayala has a win percent of 16 over the last 30 days. SOPHIE'S ANGEL - Posted a sound speed rating in the most recent race. Can run another good one in this race. Is a strong contender based on figures recorded lately under today's conditions. LETS RACE LADYS - When a trainer brings any animal back this quickly it is a positive signal.
