MLB | Blue Jays vs Twins
Play on: Blue Jays -136 at linepros
My free play is on the Tor Blue Jays at 8:10 ET.
Toronto opened Sep 15-3 but then lost two of three at Tampa Bay. A four-game series in Minnesota starting Thursday allowed the Blue Jays a good opportunity to "make a move" in the AL wild card race. However, the Twins beat the Jays 7-2 last night and the Jays now sit THREE games behind Boston (No. 1 wild card) and one game behind the Yankees (No. 2 wild card). As for 68-85 Minnesota, 2020's AL Central champs, the Twins are just trying to play the role of spoiler in the season; last 10 days,
Taking the mound Friday night at Target Field will be Jose Berrios (12-8, 3.45 ERA) of Toronto, while Minnesota will start 6-foot-9 rookie Bailey Ober (2-3, 4.34 ERA). Berrios is a two-time All-Star and was a first-round pick in the 2012 draft by the Twins. He was traded to Toronto on July 30 for a pair of highly touted minor league prospects, infielder/outfielder Austin Martin and right-handed pitcher Simeon Woods Richardson. Berrios has made 63 career starts at Target Field in Minneapolis but Friday night will mark his first as a visiting player. In 64 career appearances at Target Field, including one relief outing, Berrios is 32-20 with a 3.59 ERA. Berrios faced his old team for the first time last Sunday in Toronto and allowed three runs on four hits while striking out six over 6.2 innings of a 5-3 victory. Ober will be making his second career start against the Blue Jays. He took the loss Saturday in a 6-2 defeat at Toronto when he allowed four runs (a three-run HR and a solo shot) in four innings. Ober has made 19 starts in 2021 and the Twins are a respectable 11-8 (remember: Minnesota is 17 games under .500!).
Toronto needs to win Friday, Saturday and Sunday and that can't happen if the Jays don't win tonight. That's the bet.
Good luck...Larry

The high octane Jays were embarrassed by the Twins yesterday and now have starter woes. Berrioz is not one of them. He has been very good lately and was lights out against the Twins recently. The Jays have had success vs. Ober, and desperately need a win today. Look for a rebound from the Jays offense. Take the Jays to win.
