Florida State vs. Clemson Free Pick October 30, 2021
The Clemson Tigers are 6-1 to the under and 0-7 ATS on the season while averaging only 20.0 points per game.
I think they're in for yet another disappointing performance against the spread here, facing a Florida State team that is riding a three-game winning streak after an 0-4 start. Their current run includes a 35-25 road win as an 18-point underdog at North Carolina.
The Seminoles are averaging 229.4 rushing yards per game (14th), and I think they'll have continued success on the ground here which will both earn them points on the board while also keeping the clock running to shorten the game, which is of benefit to the dog.
Free pick on Florida State Seminoles.

NCAA-F | Wyoming vs San Jose State
Play on: Wyoming +3½ -110 at William Hill

Free Play from Doc’s Sports. Take #165 Wyoming Cowboys over San Jose State Spartans (4p.m., Saturday, October 30 FS2) The Spartans have fallen off a cliff this season and almost lost to UNLV last week. Wyoming did suffer an embarrassing loss to New Mexico, but I expect them to bounce back in this game and win it straight-up. The Cowboys dominated this last meeting between these two teams and have won 7 of the 11 matchups. Wyoming is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a loss in their previous game. San Jose State is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a win in their previous game. Do not miss Doc’s Sports weekend football card featuring our world famous, Big 10 Game of the Year. This is the play that won 19 years in a row during the last century and it is a must have for any big game hunter. Get it right here and let 50 years of handicapping experience work for you.

Ross Benjamin has 5 college football winners up for sale that are primed for a 5-0 clean sweep which includes his Game of Week Top Play rated pick in the North Carolina/Notre Dame (7:30 ET/NBC)! Play On: Colorado State +2.5
This point-spread jumped right off the page at me when I first saw it. We have a 3-4 Colorado State team as just a small underdog versus perennial Mountain West Conference powerhouse Boise State. If this game were to be played earlier in the year Boise State would assuredly be a double-digit road favorite especially after witnessing Colorado State drop their season opener at home to South Dakota State who plays at the FCS level. Unfortunately for Boise State fans, the Broncos have vastly underachieved thus far, and they enter this week with an extremely disappointing 3-4 record. You may be surprised to know that Colorado State ranks #7 nationally in total defense and is only allowing 295.3 yards per game. Furthermore, the Rams offense over their previous 3 contests has scored 30.3 points and gained 461.0 yards per game. The Rams will also be out to end a 10-game losing streak to Boise State. This seems as good a spot as any to put a halt to that domination. Bet Colorado State plus the small number for my college football free pick.

Now at 5-2 with back-to-back subpar performances, and let’s be honest, a month ago, they couldn’t even cover against Villanova, Penn State, is a hot mess. Sports fans, Ohio State, ranking No.5 in the polls has one loss and three undefeated teams ahead of them. Beating the Nittany Lions wouldn’t hurt the Buckeyes efforts. But, crushing them would certainly earn them some well-needed style points. Since their loss in Week 2 to Oregon, Ohio State is just three and a half points away from covering five straight outings. They got bettors paid laying 48.5 over Akron, 15 at Rutgers, 22 against Maryland, and last week 21 in Indiana. This team is on a mission. Any of the top-four ranked teams slip up, and trust me, the schedules are getting tougher and a slip up, will happen, and they can sneak back in to the CFP talks folks. But, only with a blowout win here this week. Penn State just can’t keep pace with an offense that has accounted for a dismal 38 total points the last two weeks. Oh, by the way, they are just 4-20-2 against the spread the last 26 games played following a SU loss. Penn State is not a bounce back team, guys. Take Ohio State here to crush. It’s a winner. Thank you.

Play on: Louisville +6½ -110 at Mirage

#125 ASA FREE PLAY ON Louisville +6.5 over NC State, Saturday at 7:30 PM ET - This is a great spot to grab a touchdown underdog that is more than capable of winning this game outright. The Cardinals offense is top 50 in several key statistical categories including total yards per game at 450YPG, Yards Per Play at 6.2, rushing yards per game at 201RYPG and scoring at just under 32PPG. This Louisville offense will be by far the best ‘O’ the Wolfpack have faced this season, which is why NC State’s defensive numbers are so impressive. The two best offenses NC State has played recently are Miami’s and LA Tech’s and they don’t compare to Louisville’s. In a snapshot, Miami’s offense is 97th in Yards Per Play and 73rd in total yards per game and the Canes put up 422 yards vs. the Wolfpack. LA Tech managed 418 total yards against NC State a few weeks earlier which is better than their season average of 382YPG. On the other side of the football, it looks like on paper the Wolfpack offense will have a huge advantage against Louisville’s defense but don’t be fooled by the numbers. Louisville is 102nd in yards allowed per game, 116th in passing yards given up and 76th in points allowed per game. The Cards though have played three top 11 offenses this season (Virginia, Mississippi & Wake Forest) along with Florida State who rates 42nd. Four of Louisville’s last five games have been one score games and this one will go down to the wire. Grab the points.

I successfully played on the Oilers when these teams met, at Edmonton, to begin the season. The Oilers continued to win after that, while the Canucks have continued to struggle. Edmonton finally came back down to earth last game though and tonight's rematch is in Vancouver. Off to an 0-2 start here, the Canucks are extremely hungry to get their first home win. They're a respectable 19-17 (+5.9) the past couple of seasons, after scoring one goal or less in their previous game. I like their chances of scoring the minor upset. Consider Vancouver.

Play on: BYU -2½ -110 at pinnacle

My free play is on BYU at 10:15 ET.
The 6-2 BYU Cougars climbed back into the top-25 (at No. 25) with a 21-19 win at Washington State, making them eligible for postseason play for the FIFTH time in six seasons under head coach Kalani Sitake. The Cougars welcome Virginia of the ACC to Provo Saturday night, as the Cavs enter on a four-game winning streak that also has them 6-2 on the season. However, the MAJOR storyline is "Bronco's back!" Bronco Mendenhall was 99-43 with five 10-win seasons and 11 bowl appearances at BYU from 2005-15, before leaving to take the UVA job, at which point Sitake took over as head coach at BYU (see above). Mendenhall's Cavaliers are eligible for a bowl for the FIFTH consecutive season (the team declined a bowl invite in 2020 amid the pandemic).
Virginia is led by QB Brennan Armstrong, who leads the NCAA in passing yards (3,220). He's completing 64.2% with 23 TDs and six INTs plus run for five TDs. Armstrong passed for 396 yards and four TDs plus ran for 99 yards and two scores in last Saturday's 48-40 win against Georgia Tech. UVA leads the ACC and ranks fourth nationally with 539.9 YPG. UVA opened with two wins but gave up 59 points in a 20-point loss to North Carolina and then gave up 37 points in a second straight 20-point loss to Wake Forest. Since then, UVA has gone 4-0 SU & ATS, while averaging 40.0 PPG. Armstrong has excellent targets in WRs Kemp (56 catches / 5 TDs) and Wicks (38 catches / 22.3 YPC / 8 TDs) plus TE Woods (26 catches / 5 TDs) but the running game is below average (134.9 YPG ranks 89th). The defense can be had, as UVA is allowing 432.8 YPG to rank 105th of 130 teams.
BYU shocked all with an 11-1 season last year behind the passing of Zach Wilson (73.% with 33 TDs and just 3 INTs). BYU opened 4-0 in 2021 but then lost back-to-back games 26-17 at home to Boise St and 34-24 at Baylor, before edging Washington St last Saturday. Jalen Hall in NO Zach Wilson but is completing 63.6% for 1,348 yards with nine TDs and three INTs, while adding 205 yards on the ground on 5.4 YPC plus 5 TDs. RB Allgeier is top-notch, rushing for 866 yards on 5.2 YPC and 11 TDs. BYU is averaging 26.0 PPG (down from 43.5 last season) plus its defense is giving up 22.5 PPG (up from 15.3 last season).
Mendanhall told reporters Monday that, "You know, I don't have expectations. It is a weird space, because we are arriving to play a football game, and I am charged with helping my current team," he said. "So yeah, to expect or want more than that, I don't. That is not a controllable thing, and to make more of that, or spend more time or energy or effort into that is not (productive)." Sitake countered by adding, "I have tons of respect for Bronco Mendenhall and what he did here at BYU and the type of man he is, the leader he is. He produces great people in his football programs. It has been a pleasure for me to be here and to take over as a new head coach in a program that he established and laid the foundation at. He was able to do some really great things here, and we have a deep appreciation and gratitude for him."
Emotions on both sides will be 'running high' but here's the bottom line. BYU comes in battle tested by having played a Pac 12-heavy schedule (owns wins over Arizona, then-No. 21 Utah, then-No. 19 ASU and Washington St), while Virginia has played three road games, all on the east coast, winning two by a combined three points, while losing by 20 at North Carolina. Asking them to win on this long trip to LaVell Edwards Stadium (where BYU is 10-1 SU since 2020) seems like a 'bridge too far!' The Cougars have a chance to win game No. 600 since the program's first official collegiate season in 1922. In their first 47 seasons, they won 173 games. Since 1972, the first year under Edwards, they've picked up 426 victories and a national title. I say Sitake gets to 'put the cherry on top' of win No. 600.
                                Good luck...Larry
