Wednesday's NBA Free Pick is on the Denver Nuggets as a 1-point road dog against the Memphis Grizzlies. Big revenge spot here for Denver as these two teams just played each other in Memphis on Monday. I was on the Grizzlies in that game, which they won 106-97. I just thought it was a bad spot for Denver playing their second straight on the road and 3rd game in 4 nights. While they are still on the road, it's huge not having to travel between games. I also don't trust that Grizzlies defense, which is giving up 114.1 ppg on 48% shooting. Bet the Nuggets +1!

I won with the Hawks in their last game. Their 5-1 victory over the the Senators snapped a 9-game losing streak to start the season. Monkey off their back, it should also provide some positive momentum. Of course, the Canes are a much tougher opponent. Still, Carolina is off a 1-goal game, eking out a 2-1 win against Arizona. Also, seven of the last nine meetings between these teams, here at Chicago, resulted in a 1-goal games. Carolina only won one of the nine by more than a goal. In other words, one would be 8-1 if getting an extra +1.5 goals with the Hawks in those games. In what figures to be another close one, consider Chicago on the puck-line. (+1.5 goals)

I just don't feel like the market has caught up with how bad this Mavs team has been playing to start the season. Dallas does come in with a winning SU record at 4-3, but they are just 2-5 ATS.
This is also an awful spot for the Mavs, who hosted the Heat last night. A game they lost 110-125. Miami did as they pleased offensively in that game, which was highlighted by a 46-point 2nd quarter.
While the lack of defense was the story in that game, the offensive struggles are what are really hurting this team. Dallas is shooting just 40.9% from the field and 31.5% from behind the 3-point line. They are also shooting just 35.1% from the field and 28.7% from behind the 3-point line on the road.
I know the Spurs are just 2-5 SU and have lost 5 of their last 6, but I really think they should be favored here. Big thing with San Antonio and their slow start is the schedule. They have had to play 4 of their first 7 on the road, with two of their home games against two title contenders in the Bucks and Lakers.
I also like the revenge angle here for the Spurs, as they lost at Dallas 99-104 last Thursday. Give me San Antonio +1!

Fresh legs, defensive players missing and a second-string goalie all help put me on the Over in this matchup.
Columbus last played on Sunday. The Blue Jackets draw the Avalanche minus their top defensive player, Cale Makar, and starting backup goalie Jonas Johansson. The Avalanche are relying on youthful defensemen with multiple players out.
The Blue Jackets also are missing numerous defensemen because of injuries and sickness. The Avalanche haven't played since Saturday. So they should have fresh legs. Colorado has scored 4 goals in three of its last four games.

Wednesday NHL Free play. My selection is on Colorado over Columbus at 9:05 pm et on Wednesday.
There's admittedly a lot working against the Avs heading into Wednesday's matchup with the Blue Jackets but that has only served to drop Colorado into a playable price range for us. Mikko Rantanen isn't expected to play. Cale Makar has been officially ruled out. Backup goaltender Jonas Johansson is likely to get the start between the pipes. With all of that being said, the last time I checked the Avs still had the services of Nathan MacKinnon and Gabriel Landeskog and plenty of depth in general. After a tough start to the season the Avs don't have the benefit of 'punting' games like this. I still expect a strong performance from Colorado here and I like the way the situation sets up as it has gone an incredible 29-5 when coming off a home win by two goals or more over the last 2+ seasons, outscoring opponents by an average margin of 2.0 goals in that spot. Going back to last season the Avs have outscored opponents by 2.3 goals on average when coming off a win by three goals or more over a division opponent, as is the case here (23-game sample size). The Blue Jackets check in off a win in New Jersey on Sunday. They haven't posted back-to-back victories since a perfect 2-0 start to the season. Interestingly, they're a woeful 2-14 when playing on the road following a game where seven or more goals were scored. They've been outscored by an average margin of 1.4 goals in that spot, averaging only 1.8 goals themselves. Take Colorado.
