I've got to go with ELGOFRANCO. With Rispoli on top her, this filly will most likely be able to break out sharply in this contest. Has to be given a chance - I like the figs from the last contest. Papaprodromou has this filly racing well and is a formidable choice based on the formidable speed figs earned in sprint races lately. LISTEN TO BLUE - With a formidable 75 average speed fig at the distance, seems well suited for today's race. Could beat this group of animals given the 75 speed figure recorded in her last outing. BIG STRETCH - Damato and Hernandez have won 18 percent of their races giving this racer a competitive chance. Montreal started the season in bad shape. They had some injuries but also just played horribly. They were outplayed by 4 of their first 5 opponents and badly at that. Most of them were weaker teams as well. Now, they were the "better" team in terms of expected goals in 4 of their last 6, and both of their last two.
They'll be facing an Islanders team that hasn't played in 5 days so they might be a little rusty. Either way, it's a good time to take the Canadiens as home underdogs and fade the Islanders. NY hasn't looked sharp at all to start the season. You could attribute some of that to not playing a home game yet, but that's not the whole story. The Islanders are just 18th in expected goals at 5 on 5 so far this season compared to 12th for the Canadiens. NY is also an even worse 24th in high danger scoring chances at 5 on 5 while Montreal is 16th.
The last stat is that the Canadiens are due for more goals given how they've played. They've scored 12% LESS high danger chance goals than expected, that's one of the worst numbers in the league right now. Every team goes through stretches like this but it usually doesn't last for too long unless it's a real bottom-feeder team and I don't put Montreal in that category.
The Islanders are being overvalued because of their success in the past and the rest advantage which might be a negative. Take the home team in this one. Good luck!

This is a play on the NEW YORK ISLANDERS for our Thursday Free Play. The Islanders continue their brutal roadtrip as they are coming off their seventh straight road game to start the season with six more to go before they finally get to head home to their newly renovated arena. New York is coming off a shootout loss in Nashville on Saturday so it has had plenty of rest to get back into the win column. The Islanders are a respectable 3-2-1-1 with all three of their wins coming in regulation after a 0-2 start with losses against Carolina and Florida which are a combined 17-0-0-1. Additionally, they are fourth worst in the power play at 10.8 percent. The Canadiens are 0-5 in their last five games after allowing two goals or less in their previous game. Here, we play against home underdogs of +100 to +150 off a win against a division rival, with a losing record in the first half of the season. Senators are struggling and enter this game with a 1-5 record in their last 6 overall and are 1-5 in their last 6 games as an underdog. Im betting things don't get much better here as the Senators are on tired legs as this will be their 3rd game in 4nights. This just feels like a few too many points for Miami to be laying. With that said, I'm not surprised to see the Heat being overvalued by the books right now. Miami has been arguably the most impressive team so far this season. The Heat are 6-1 with all 6 wins coming by double-digits.
Even with the Celtics coming into this game off an impressive 92-79 win and cover at Orlando as a 7.5-point favorite, no one is going to rush to back Boston in this spot. Beating a bad team doesn't move the needle much. All the public sees is this Celtics team being just 3-5 SU and 3-5 ATS to start the year.
One thing to keep in mind with the slow start with Boston, is just how easily they could be 6-2 instead of 3-5. They got two OT losses and that horrific 4th quarter collapse against the Bulls a few nights ago.
Speaking of that collapse against Chicago, that sparked a players-only meeting before going to Orlando last night. While the offense once again struggled from the field, it says something when a team plays as had as they did defensively against a bad team.
I see a very motivated Boston team in Miami tonight. It might not be enough to beat the Heat, but I really like them to keep this within the number. Give me the Celtics +6.5!
