Best Horse Racing Bets for Friday, December 3, 2021
By J.W. Paine in Horse Racing

I uncovered some solid underdog moneymakers at all three tracks—Golden Gate Fields, Gulfstream Park, and Los Alamitos Race Course—for my Friday horseracing picks.

In fact, I found only one favorite at each of those three tracks worth the wager.

My Friday Picks for Golden Gate Fields

Let’s start with race four, a 5-1/2 furlong starter allowance run on the all-weather track for two-year-old’s that have never won two races. I’m calling this one for the third-favored (at 7/2) Drinking Again, ridden by Ruben Fuentes.
The only competitor in this race that has moneyed at the stakes level, this colt won his initial maiden attempt in June at Golden Gate, then finished second a couple of weeks later in the Everett Nevin Stakes (Black Type) at Pleasanton Fairgrounds Racetrack.

Ed Moger Jr. trains Drinking Again for owners Moger Inc., Bill Dory, Sandy Dory, Gary Kropp, and Janet Kropp.

Race six is a 5-1/2 furlong claiming race on the all-weather track for fillies and mares three years old and upward that have never won three races. I like the 9/5 morning-line favorite for this race, This Is the One, piloted by veteran jockey Catalino Martinez.

This four-year-old filly finished in the money in eight of her 12 career starts, winning two, which gives her a solid statistical lead in this eight-horse field.

Longtime racing veteran Steven Specht trains This Is the One for owner Lloyd E. Grant.

We move to the turf course for race eight, a five-furlong allowance run for three-year-old’s and upward. I like the 4/1 underdog in this race, Tom’s Surprise, with Evin A. Roman in the irons.

While the 8/5 morning-line favorite, Silver Claim, has an impressive history, while Tom’s Surprise is the only entry in this eight-horse race showing any success at all at the stakes level.

For the record, this four-year-old gelding moneyed nine of his 14 career starts, winning five. He notably finished second in the Bertrando Stakes (Black Type) at Los Alamitos in June.

Jack Steiner trains Tom’s Surprise for Remmah Racing, Inc.
            Friday’s Picks for Gulfstream Park

We’re on the turf course for race five, a five-furlong allowance optional claiming race for three-year-olds and upward. I like the 7/2 second-favored Shekky Shebaz, ridden by top jockey Paco Lopez.

Campaigned aggressively at the stakes level throughout his career, this six-year-old gelding finished in the money 19 of his 27 career starts, winning six, including the Lucky Coin Stakes (Black Type) at Saratoga and the Claiming Crown Canterbury Stakes at Gulfstream Park—both in 2019.

He also finished second in the Troy Stakes (Grade III) at Saratoga in 2020.
I’ll be the first to admit that Shekky Shebaz has had better years than 2021, but he is still posting triple digit speed figures. In this eight-horse field, he’ll do.

Breeders’ Cup veteran Christophe Clement trains Shekky Shebaz for owner Thaddeus A. Wier Jr.

Race six is the Wait a While Stakes, a $75,000 purse, one-mile turf run for two-year-old fillies. I agree with the morning line, so my two dollars is on the 5/2 favorite, Lemieux, with veteran jockey Edwin Gonzalez in the irons.

This filly moneyed four of her five career starts, winning two, including the Brethren Juvenile Fillies Stakes (Black Type) in October. In fact, she’s the only entry in this nine-horse field that has won more than her maiden.
Hall of Famer Mark E. Casse trains Lemieux for D. J. Stable LLC. Casse also tapped Gonzalez to saddle Lemieux for her stakes victory.

Race ten is the Pulpit Stakes, a $75,000 purse, one-mile run on the turf course for two-year-old’s. This one looks to be a tight race, but I’m buying a win ticket on the 6/1 underdog, Eldon’s Prince, with Edgard J. Zayas aboard.

This colt finished all three of his career starts in the money, winning two—the Proud Man Stakes (Black Type) in August and the Armed Forces Stakes (Black Type) in September.

Saffie A. Joseph, Jr. trains Eldon’s Prince for Gentry Farms (A.P. Gentry). Edgard Zayas has been in the irons for all three of Eldon’s Prince’s pro races.
Friday’s Picks for Los Alamitos Race Course

We’ll start on the main track with race two, a six-furlong claiming race for three-year-olds and upward. My money’s on the second-favored (at 2/1) Active Account, ridden by top jockey Ricardo Gonzalez.

This four-year-old gelding finished in the money three of his five career starts, winning two, which gives him a decided statistical advantage in this seven-horse field.

Thirty-year racing veteran Doug F. O’Neill trains Active Account for S3L, LLC.

Race four is a 5-1/2 furlong starter allowance run on the main track for three-year-olds and upward. I’m betting my two dollars on the 7/5 morning-line favorite, Red Valor, with veteran jockey Abel Cedillo in the irons.
This five-year-old gelding stand out in this short field of five with nine money finishes in 28 career starts, six of them wins. That may not sound all that impressive, but his 2021 record certainly does – five money finishes in eight starts, four of them wins. He’ll do.

Steve Knapp trains Red Valor for owner Bill Tomasic.

Race five is a six-furlong claiming race on the main track for three-year-olds and upward that have never won two races. My money’s on the third-favored (at 5/2) Surplus, with Edwin A. Maldonado aboard.

This three-year-old gelding has the best record in this six-horse field: Three money finishes in six career starts, with one win.

Ruben D. Alvarado trains Surplus for Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners.

It is Opening Day! For the 1st time, Oaklawn Park is expanding its racing calendar ... Now, they begin not in January, but in December. A focal point for racing, they continue to produce a fabulous product from beautiful Hot Springs, Arkansas.

              ---------------------------------------------

              LATE PICK 4…

              LEG 1: (Race 6: Dirt, 1 1/16th, ALLW10k, 3+)

Kicking off this tough Late Pick 4 sequence is this route, going 2-turns around the OP oval. I am not totally against the venerable M/L favorite, Exemplar #9, but I do think that I trust him enough to get “Single.” Using him makes sense, what with David Cabrera aboard, but I rather like the look of Bentley Combs’ Botswana #7. He owns this one too, and even though this gelding by Graydar failed to hit the board in his only OP start, he ran pretty nicely at 1 1/8th back at Churchill in early November. The capable Francisco Arrieta was aboard then, and gets together with this mount once again. Let’s pair Combs’ entry with Robertino Diodoro’s Tez #6. This is a gelding by The Factor that gets a barn upgrade. A leading trainer in Hot Springs, Diodoro can do magnificent things with claims, and he also makes the choice to go with “Blinkers.” This entry just missed against #9, so looking for some payback might be in order. I am willing to leave the #9 off this ticket, in order to save some scrum for latter part of the P4. Let’s get this Meet off to a great start!

              Selections: 6/7 (2-Deep)

              LEG 2: (Race 7: Dirt, 6F, MSW84k, 2F)

Coming into this 2nd Leg, I am after 2 kinds of runners … a horse that has seen the racetrack, and another whose sire/dam line speaks to a high percentage of maiden victories. When it comes to the former, it looks like Ingrid Mason has the inside track with her filly, Hypersport #7. This daughter of Blame was awfully good in her debut race at Keeneland back in October. She yielded that day, but for being 31/1, and trying to break her maiden … that was pretty impressive. This time around at Oaklawn she will get Lasix for the 1st time, and the services once again of Francisco Arrieta. Rating nicely … looking under control … those are attributes that you like to see 1st time out … nice building blocks. I want to use her. As for my 1st time starter play, how about the look of the breeding lines that are emanating from Brad Cox’s Firewolves #9. I know accepting 5/2 on a runner like this is not a case for value, but this is Cox we are talking about. Even more impressive is the sire … Practical Joke. What a rising star in the shed this one has become! Working well, she is a filly that has the capability to live up to that 37% “1st Time” out stat. Florent Geroux, who is Cox’s go-to rider, will have the mount. I think going with this pair makes a ton of sense, especially if you have looked at the next race … the opening stakes … whew it is a toughy!

              Selections: 7/9 (2-Deep)

              LEG 3: (Race 8: Dirt, 6F, Advent S. $150k, 2)

Talk about an advent … the advent of a very difficult race to handicap. The “feature” on this Friday Opening Day card at Oaklawn Park is this “Black Type” contest. This is one of those races where you could simply take the M/L favorite, and “Single.” Steve Asmussen’s Cairama #9 ran in the Nashua (G3) at Belmont, and though he was 5th in the end, is the classiest runner in this field. When it comes to how well he takes to the track at Oaklawn, that is anyone’s guess. Maybe he wins, and that is all she wrote … But, I do not want to take that chance when so much is at stake for our ticket. Let’s err on the side of caution, and hit the “All” button. Tom Amoss’ Higher Standard #10, Dallas Stewart’s B Sudd #6, and Chris Hartman’s Kavod #2 all look possible upset candidates. If one of the longer prices comes in, then we are really in-the-money. To my eye, especially early in the Meet like this (with little to go on), it makes sense to take a position like this one. Moving on …

              Selections: 1-10 (ALL)

              LEG 4: (Race 9: Dirt, 6F, ALLW10k, F&M 3+)

Rounding out this splendid card is the nightcap, a high-end ALLW Co. race that would probably be a Grade 3 at some other establishment. This is a turn-and-burn, so speed early in the game could make the difference. When it comes to a top selection, I am pretty keen on the exploits of trainer Scott Becker’s Miz Blue #5. I know some might scoff at this selection, but the filly by Big Drama appears to be the real deal. Look at that beautiful ride she went on at Hawthorne in late October. She has speed, and can be lethal out on the engine. I would not go so far as to say that she is a “Single,” but she could be a player in here at a nice price. Anything over 5/1 on her is an overlay in my opinion. Let’s include her, but also toss in Brad Cox’s Palm Cottage #8, Steve Asmussen’s Flash Magic #11, and Chris Hartman’s Code Name Kate #3 because these 3 all have upside. Last but certainly not least, I think that Karl Broberg has a runner worth its salt in Sweet Prayers #9. This mare by Songandaprayer has LA state bred company in her background, and was always consistent in ALLW Co. down at Evangeline and Delta Downs. Those tracks deserve more respect, and so does Broberg. Once again, he is coming to Oaklawn to play against the “Supes.” Watch out folks … that helps us to round out the ticket!

              Selections: 3/5/8/9/11 (5-Deep)

              -------------------------------------------------------

              .50 P4 TICKET COST: $100.00

One of the best kept turf secrets in all of Thoroughbred racing is rolling along this Friday ... it's Tampa Bay Downs!

Most Likely Winner: (Race 4: Shaldag #9, 2/1):

There is a pipeline between Monmouth Park and Tampa that runs from late September into December. Here is a play from the barn of Rafael Schistl that is still looking to break his maiden after 7 tries. Now, he is coming to TAM for the 1st time, and this might be his moment to get the elusive “W.” I especially like the connection to Twirling Candy, a sire that has produced some excellent grass offspring. This one should be a square price at 2/1, and he is in for a $25k tag.

                Wagering Recommendation: $100 Win, #9

Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 5: Zuri #3, 5/1):

If you are not familiar with the riding ability of Rocco Bowen, then you have not watched many races at Arlington Park. Now, that track is closed, Bowen is plying his trade elsewhere. I like his spirit, and he climbs aboard this Godolphin-owned filly for Eoin Harty. Getting back to the turf at this level could be just what this runner wants to do. The former Bill Mott charge has spent most of his time on the AW surface at Presque Isle Downs. Maybe we can get some odds that are closer to 8/1. If so, that is definitely a bet.

                Wagering Recommendation: $100 Bankroll, Graduated Wager WPS #3 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)

                Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 7: Turf, 1 1/16th, AOC32k, 3+):

A tough Tampa turf contest is where we find ourselves on Friday … this one is going to be interesting. My “key” horse in this race is Bill Mott’s Newsworthy #3. This gelding by Tapit was excellent in early September at Kentucky Downs. Ridden by Samy Camacho, a local rider who has shown much promise over the past few years, this pair should have a chance to get a score. When it comes to ticket construction, I want to roll 3 other entries underneath. Those nods go to Obiwan #1, A Rose for Raven #4, and Atreyu #7 … each of these is ridden by a strong grass jockey, and their odds should give us a chance to cash a good ticket. Roll it …

                Wagering Recommendation: $2 Superfecta Wheel, 3 w 1/4/7 w 1/4/7 w 1/4/7

Busan Friday: Race-By-Race Preview (December 3)

There’s plenty to still be decided in what’s set to be a hectic final month of 2021. There is the final leg of the Triple Crown to come, plus the conclusion of the race for champion filly and mare, as well of course as the big one, the Grand Prix Stakes on Boxing Day. The first item on the agenda is to decide Champion Juvenile and that will be resolved in the Korean Breeders’ Cup (KOR G2) at Busan on Sunday. Things get underway at Busan on Friday with 7 races from 12:40 to 18:00. Moon Se Young is among several Seoul based jockeys in town for Sunday’s race, who also have rides on Friday’s card. Also in action will be Kim Hye Sun, who reached her latest career milestone last weekend. Here are the previews:
                    It’s Busan Friday

                    Busan Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

Juvenile filly maidens open proceedings. (9) QUEEN’S DAERO has run well for 4th and 3rd in two starts so far, finishing both in fair times. She comes in off six weeks out and draws marginally better and with You Hyun-myung climbing aboard, could make the breakthrough here. Kim Hye-sun rode four winner last Sunday and she has solid claims to pick up where she left off with (3) HANEUL MISO. She significantly improved at start number two on November 7th when prominent throughout and only narrowly beaten into 2nd. From a good draw she will be on pace again and can go one better. Among the first time starters, (7) GREEN PAPAGO was the fastest in trials, coming from off the pace to run on well. She has fair claims first-up as does (2) GLOBAL YEOSIN who was on pace throughout her heat and ran 2nd in a similarly decent time. (12) ALL CROWN wasn’t especially quick in her trial but she did cross the line first and is another to take note of.
Selections (9) Queen’s Daero (3) Haneul Miso (7) Green Papago (2) Global Yeosin
                    Next Best 12, 4
                    Fast Start 2, 3, 5, 12

                    Busan Race 2: Class 6 (1400M) Allowance / KRW 25 Million

                    (3) CHIEF OFFICER returned from three months out to run a significantly improved 2rd place at 1200M on November 5th, beating a couple of these in the process. He comes up a full 4kg in the weights which would normally be a red flag given he had done nothing prior to it, but the form in this race is so patchy, that 3rd is enough for him to go on top. He was ridden on pace for the first time that day and despite the additional trip should be again. (2) HERO MAN came from off the pace to run 6th at this distance on November 14th. He draws better today and seems to be the main danger. (1) OBAEK JANGGUN ran 8th in the same race, running on from an unpromising position. The time he recorded there, while not fast, is enough to put him in the mix in this company. (11) DOCTOR CANDY is another who showed some signs of improvement at her latest appearance when 4th behind Chief Officer at 1200M. She along with (12) RHIANNON POINT, should be in the placing frame.
Selections (3) Chief Officer (2) Hero Man (1) Obaek Janggun (11) Doctor Candy
                    Next Best 12, 5
                    Fast Start 5, 8, 10, 11

                    Busan Race 3: Class 5 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million

                    (3) BEOLMAUI STAR was an all the way winner over 1000M on debut on November 5th. He comes up in both class and distance today but should have enough about him to handle both and he can win again. (11) GOLDENTHUNDERBOLT ran 2nd in both his first two starts before finding things touch in the Gimhae Mayor’s Cup on his first try at 1300M. He should have come on for that and while the draw isn’t ideal, he can be given another chance today. (4) SUNSET MELODY was a winner at this distance on debut at class 6 level and while she weakened to 6th place on her first try at this level on November 7th. She should be in the mix here, as should (1) GOLDEN who finished one place ahead of her in 4th in that race having led for much of the way around. (10) NAMED returned from six months out to run 8th of eleven in a fair time at this trip on November 14th and can build on that run here.
Selections (3) Beolmaui Star (11) Goldenthunderbolt (4) Sunset Melody (1) Golden
                    Next Best 10, 12
                    Fast Start 3, 4, 11, 12

                    Busan Race 4: Class 4 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

Fillies (and one mare) only here. (6) B. K. MARSHALL has never been worse than 3rd in three starts so far and got her breakthrough at her latest outing when she settled back before running on strong to score at this distance on November 7th. She comes up in class again here but finds herself in very amenable filly only company and looks to be the one to beat. The main danger is perhaps one of the three first-time starters. (2) UNBREAK led in her trial ultimately crossing the line a close 2nd place. The Shanghai Bobby filly draws nicely to get on pace again and could well be dangerous. (5) HAPPY WITCH has run consistently decent times at this distance and while it seems she has found her level in this class, she can run into some money here. (3) MASTER QUEEN and another debut-maker (8) GEUMA MAIA are others who could go well.
                    Selections (6) B. K. Marshall (2) Unbreak (5) Happy Witch (3) Master Queen
                    Next Best 8, 1
                    Fast Start 2, 3, 7, 9

                    Busan Race 5: Class 5 (1600M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million

Competitive race here. (1) WONDER BLADE has been a model of consistency across seven starts so far, with two wins to his name. He comes up in trip to a mile for the first time but there is no reason it can’t suit and from the inside gate, he has solid claims. Similarly consistent is (11) QUEEN HARLEY. She beat three of these on her way to 3rd place over 1800M on November 12th and while she is up 3kg on her class and distance win two starts back, she still gets weight from Wonder Blade. She doesn’t need to lead so the draw shouldn’t be too disadvantageous. (5) GOLDEN KAISER was 4th in the November 12th race and is another one in the hunt to match or better while (6) QUEEN VRONSKY comes in off a smart class and distance 2nd on November 5th. That was a big uptick on her recent form but she only comes up 1kg in weight and can go well again. Up in class (4) ADELE CROWN, a front-running winner over this trip on November 5th, is another to be considered.
Selections (1) Wonder Blade (11) Queen Harley (5) Golden Kaiser (6) Queen Vronsky
                    Next Best 4, 12
                    Fast Start 1, 3, 5, 12

                    Busan Race 6: Class 4 (1600M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

                    (7) SPEED MATCH was sent off as an odds-on favourite at this class over 1400M on November 5th but dipped coming of the gate and then bumped another horse, losing position. While he worked home very well, he couldn’t quite get there and had to settle for a 2nd. They come up in trip today and Speed Match can overturn the form on that day’s beneficiary (4) SUNLIGHT BOY, who grabbed an early lead and never let it go, holding off Speed Match by a Head on the line. He comes up 3kg but draws well to get on pace again and must be taken seriously. (2) FLAT BABE is another up in trip following a good win at this class over 1400M on October 22nd. She broke fairly that day before taking up the running at the top of the straight and finishing off well. She comes up a full 4kg but can be competitive again. (6) TOHAM STAR comes in off a strong 2nd behind the very good Domination over this distance at the end of October and along with (3) JUST WIN, is another in at least the placing frame.
Selections (7) Speed Match (4) Sunlight Boy (2) Flat Babe (6) Toham Star
                    Next Best 3, 11
                    Fast Start 3, 4, 6, 11

                    Busan Race 7: Class 2 (1800M) Allowance / KRW 90 Million

                    (5) B. K JOHN comes in having won his latest two in fine style, both at this distance and most recently at this class when he beat several of these handily on November 5th. He comes up 3kg in the weights but draws nicely enough and should have too much again. (3) GEUMA MYSTIC was second-favourite in that November 5th race but from a wide draw struggled to find position and his challenge never really arrived. He has run well at this distance though and from a much better gate today, he can be given another chance. (10) DIAMOND MARINE crossed from gate eleven in the November 5th race to lead until the middle of the home stretch before battling on gallantly for 3rd. He scarcely draws any better today but can place again. Among those who didn’t run in that race, (12) JANGSAN DOKKI and (9) YEONGSEONG ACE are perhaps the best.
                    Selections (5) B. K John (3) Geuma Mystic (10) Diamond Marine (12) Jangsan Dokki
                    Next Best 9, 8
                    Fast Start 6, 8, 10, 11

Aqueduct Horses in Focus for Friday, December 3
Posted on December 2, 2021 by David Aragona

                      RACE 3: COOL LAOBAN (#3)

Midnight Worker is probably the horse to beat as he gets back on turf in this allowance optional claimer. His lone prior grass start came against stakes foes in the Grade 3 Futurity, and he acquitted himself well, running on mildly for fourth. That form was flattered when Slipstream returned to run decently in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf, though some others have not come back to run as well out of that race. He makes plenty of sense, but there are others to consider at better prices. Pure Panic has a right to do better after a perplexingly poor performance in the Atlantic Beach last time. He did stumble at the start, but that was a speed-dominated race in which a couple of notable players didn’t show up. I won’t be surprised if he rebounds here. Yet I want to go in a different direction with the New York-bred Cool Laoban. This horse clearly needed a start in his debut when he chased the pace and faded. He was more professional next time out when he kindly rated off the pace and ran down a solid field going this distance. I don’t care about the dirt experiment last time, and now he’s getting back on the right surface. He could also get somewhat ignored due to the recent trainer switch to Chris Englehart, whose horses tend to not get bet that strongly on the turf.

RACE 6: BIG BEAN CHRISTINE (#6)

Candy Light is probably the horse to beat off a near miss in her debut at Laurel. It’s unclear how strong that field was, but she did close nicely to get up for second, as it’s not like that race was completely falling apart at the end. However, she’s almost certainly meeting a better field here, and she’s going to be favored off that appealing running line with Jose Ortiz climbing aboard. Martini’s Amica actually might have run a better turf race in her last start despite finishing fourth. That Aqueduct maiden event looked like a pretty strong affair and this filly put in a nice late run in a speed-dominated race. She won’t be anything near that 76-1 she was last time, but she just makes a ton of sense off that last performance. That said, I want to go for a bigger price with a first time turfer. Big Bean Christine is a New York-bred facing open company here, but it’s not as if this is the toughest maiden event you’ll see at this level. She also comes out of what might be a pretty strong state-bred affair when she debuted here on Nov. 12. She showed some decent early speed that day but was also chasing towards the inside on a day when you didn’t want to be on the rail. She’s bred to excel on turf as a daughter of 15% turf sprint sire Point of Entry out of dam who has produced turf graded stakes winner Hangover Kid. She’ll be a square price due to the connections, but I think she might have the ability to contend here if she shows the expected improvement with the surface switch.

                      RACE 7: STEAM ENGINE (#1)

Gold Panda is the horse to beat as he takes another crack at this N2X allowance condition for New York-breds. However, it is somewhat troubling that he lost as the 1-2 favorite last time in a 5-horse field that looked like his race to lose. I know his connections have said that he wasn’t comfortable racing on the lead, but that seems like a poor excuse considering that he got away with slow early fractions. Apparently the plan is to take him off the pace here, and they will probably have to do so with other speed in the field. He was very good over the summer at Saratoga, but I have some doubts about whether he can get back to that form at a short price. I still prefer him to Big Bobby, who was second best to this horse two back and wasn’t that impressive despite winning against inferior company last time. While there are a few speeds signed on, I’m skeptical that this pace will be that fast. Gold Panda is expected to rate, and I can’t imagine that the connections of Winners Laugh will be that aggressive off the layoff. That could leave Steam Engine in a controlling position. This gelding is naturally quickest of the group anyway, and he showed that he still has some run in his legs two back at Monmouth. He regressed at this level last time at Belmont, but that may have been a stronger race than the speed figures indicate. I like the claim by Linda Rice, and now he’s getting back to Aqueduct where he’s run some of his best races. He could get somewhat ignored in the face of a few lightly raced rivals but he’s as good as anyone in this field on his best day.

Oaklawn Park: How to bet the 2021 Advent Stakes on Dec. 3
                        John Mucciolo

A total of 10 two-year-olds will dash six panels in the opening-day feature at Oaklawn Park on Friday, the $150,000 Advent S. The race boasts a trio of runners in the cast who exit maiden tallies, and I will center my wagers around the three recent graduates.

Bet Oaklawn Park Live Racing here!

I am not sure what #4 Ruggs (10-1) beat on debut at Remington Park, but the Ron Moquett pupil looked good in pulling away late as the 8-5 favorite. Purchased for $170,000 this summer, the son of superb young sire Gun Runner dueled on the inside of another runner in his first outing prior to going clear in late stretch, and I don’t envision that he will be the type of colt who needs the lead in order to have success. He will have to improve, but I expect a forward move from the colt on Friday beneath Martin Garcia.

The Dallas Stewart-trained #6 B Sudd (6-1) was a smart third in a loaded sprint at Keeneland at first asking, prior to graduating in game fashion under the Twin Spires last time out. By Jimmy Creed, the Kentucky-bred cuts back to six furlongs for his stakes debut, and I believe that the move will benefit the youngster in his Oaklawn bow. David Cabrera opts to ride the March foal, which is surely worth noting.

#10 Higher Standard (3-1) dominated nine foes at Churchill Downs in his initial outing for Tom Amoss. The speedy son of Into Mischief thrived over the muddy, sealed surface in his 5 1/2-furlong heat, and I love that the well-bred colt came back to fire a bullet morning drill in his latest work. He will have Florent Geroux in the silks from the advantageous outside post slot.

Steve Asmussen’s expensive #9 Cairama (5-2), who checked in fifth in the recent Nashua S. (G3), and #2 Kavod (6-1), who was second in the Tremont S. earlier this campaign and makes his first run off the claim for Chris Hartman, are two contenders that I will use in the lower rungs of the exotics.

Rocket Picks : Gulfstream, Oaklawn, and Aqueduct Picks for December 3, 2021
                            By: Jared Welch

The action rolls on today with Oaklawn Park opening day! We’ll be covering Oaklawn all meet with the Rockets, as well as Gulfstream Park, with their championship meet opening up today as well! Christmas has come early! For the free pick 4, we will go back to Aqueduct, where we have been doing well. Hopefully we can cash this, which leads to having a big Friday.

Below is our free Late Pick 4 for Aqueduct:

                            Aqueduct December 3, 2021

                            Race 7: Allowance Optional Claiming

#7 Gold Panda suffered a big upset loss last time out after winning two straight with ease. #6 Big Bobby comes into this race off of a win last time out; however, two starts back he was defeated easily by our top choice.

                            Race 8: Claiming
                            freestar

#4 Ragtime Blues has races in his past performances that will beat this group. If the new trainer can help him find his old form he will have a chance at long odds. #2 Heavy Roller drops in class here after running poorly in his last couple of starts.

                            Race 9: Claiming

#4 Mo Ready drops down in class after a few narrow defeats against much tougher company. This looks like an easier spot. #2 Summer to Remember will be doing the same, dropping down in class, and looking for a victory.

                            Race 10: Allowance

#3 Shes the One has finished first or second in all three starts, narrowly missing the two she lost, so you can count her to show up with a nice effort here. #10 Uncles Gem can win here is she can rebound from a really poor effort last time out.

Al Cimaglia: Cal Expo Pick 4 Analysis-$25,000 Guaranteed Pool

                              December 3, 2021 | By Al Cimaglia

Cal Expo has a compact 9-race program ready to go tonight. The 0.20 Pick 4 starts in Race 6. the sequence has a $25,000 guaranteed pool, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

                              Race 6

4-Bobs Time (8-1)-Qualifier was good with the trainer between the pipes. Should be in the mix if minds manners and has won 4 of 12 at CalX.
5-Fast Track (9/5)-Won its 2nd start off the bench last week and now bumps up in class. Roland worked a nice trip but was used a couple of times in last. Fits but price will be small and has only 1 win 28 starts over the last 2 years.
7-Dream Chasin (3-1)-This will be the 3rd start of the meet and the 3rd lifetime start at CalX. Has been facing tougher and loses Plano as he steers #2 from his barn. Svendsen should get a good seat and be in striking range turning for the money.

                              Race 7

1-Chase The Gold (9/2)-Comes off a nice win versus this kind last week and should be in line for another good trip. Probably won't be 12-1 but could take another picture.
2-Ivar (9/2)-Like the one above this another from the Schneider barn who won last, and it was the 1st start on Lasix. Could look to get on the point as in last and make every call a winning one.
8-Believe In Dragons (4-1)-This is 3rd Schneider entry and has had 2 nice starts after being off since May. The post helps the price and will take a swing Plano provides a sharp steer. Best to not overlook, may close fastest of all.

                              Race 8

3-Delightfully Wild (6-1)-This 8-year-old came out ready, posted an easy win and now moves up. Should be a solid price and has done well at CalX. Posted a 152.2 mark in the summer and has won 26 of 72 starts here.
5-Go Away N Play (6-1)-Has a win and a close 2nd place finish in 2 CalX races this meet. The last start was at this level and almost popped at 43-1, won't be that price here but should provide value.
6-River Lassena (4-1)-Came off the bench, raced inside and then was blocked down the lane. Not sure the tough trip cost a win but figures to be a player tonight.

                              Race 9
1-Dark Horse Wine (12-1)-This is a soft group, and this mare drops. Appears more competitive than most and is worth a swing at this price.
5-Skyway Raider (9/5)-Comes off an even 1st local start. Had been facing better at HoP and Haw but is only 1-23 this year. Should like the company but probably won't offer any value.

                              0.20 Pick 4

                              4,5,7/1,2,8/3,5,6/1,5
                              Total Bet=$10.80
