BetOnline has three racecourses available for wagering on Monday. It’s a small card, but typical for this time of the year. It’s currently the “offseason” for horse racing.

The horse racing schedule heats up the closer we get to the Kentucky Derby. The Road to the Kentucky Derby has some fun races, and then the Kentucky Derby opens the doors to the beginning of the chase to the Breeders’ Cup later in the year.

The three tracks available for wagering on Monday are at Fair Grounds, Turf Paradise, and Parx. Fair Grounds is on an island alone as the biggest track operating this afternoon.

This coming weekend, the most notable race on the docket is the $200,000 Santa Ynez Stakes (Gr. 2) at Santa Anita Park. That’s the only $200,000 race of the weekend in an unusually quiet card.

The first event at Fair Grounds runs for 5 ½ furlongs on the dirt. A modest purse of $15,000 is on offer in Race 1.

Look for Waitin’ On a Woman and Battle of Will to show up to run on Monday. Waitin’ On a Woman is winless in two career attempts.

He has finished 4th, 2nd in two races, showing improvement after going 4th on November 4. Waitin’ On a Woman finished 4th in a $15,000 assignment on November 4 at Delta Downs.

Following that attempt, Waitin’ On a Woman placed 2nd behind Tool Box by 3 ½ lengths for $15,000. He’s keeping on and has a good chance if further improvement is made.

Battle of Will is 5th, 7th, 2nd, 6th in four events. He placed 2nd two races back by 4 ¾ lengths behind Scrappy Artie for $35,000.

He didn’t keep up in his most recent outing in a $45,000 assignment. Battle of Will finished 6th and gets a class drop following that performance. Down to $15,000, this should be much easier.

Race 3 covers 6 furlongs for a $19,000 purse on the dirt. Ekait’s Verve and Citizen West should have something to do in the stretch run.

Ekati’s Verve should be involved deep into this one, with a chance to strike at the wire. He has finished 5th, 3rd, 4th, 3rd in his previous four outings.

Ekati’s Verve showed 3rd in his last start on June 20. It was an acceptable run at Churchill Downs in a $40,700 race.

Off a layoff and that performance, Ekati’s Verve must be considered. Citizen West will be tracking hard from the outside.

Citizen West is 2 for 9 and looking to stay consistent. He’s finished in the top-2 in five straight races going into Monday.

In his last attempt, Citizen West beat Desoto’s War by 5 lengths in an $18,000 race. He’s going to be right there at the end of this one. My bet is Citizen West winning it all from the outside.

Race 7 is a mile and 70-yard event for $47,000 on the dirt. Platinum Queen and Spirited Beauty should have a big chance to get through with a win.

Platinum Queen is 2 for 12 in her career and should have a nice chance of getting this one done. She is consistent and has been finding out how to win recently.

She has finished 1st, 3rd, 1st, 3rd in her last four outings at Evangeline. Two races back Platinum Queen defeated Grand Isle Girl by 1 ½ lengths for $28,000.

In her next and most recent outing, Platinum Queen showed 3rd for $31,500. The slight jump in class didn’t help and now a $47,000 race should be tough as well.

Spirited Beauty is a two-time winner, with finishes of 2nd, 1st, 6th, 2nd in her last four. Three races back, she hit a $23,000 race for a win by a neck.

She’s looking to return to the winner’s circle after going 6th and 2nd since then. In her last try, Spirited Beauty placed 2nd behind Strummer for $47,000 by 1 ¼ lengths.

That was encouraging, and against this field, should be enough for a winning run.

The first event at Turf Paradise covers a mile for a $13,300 purse. Steinway and Sugar On Top should have a strong chance at going to the top of the hill.

Steinway is winless in ten attempts, but should have a big chance of going in with this race. She has finished 5th, 2nd, 4th in her last three outing and should find this one manageable.

Two races back on November 18, Steinway placed 2nd behind Winter Star by a neck in a $9,800 race. That was a close run from Steinway, but her team was looking for more.

In her next and most recent race, Steinway finished 4th in a $12,350 event on December 7. Up to the $13,300 level, it might be tough with Sugar on Top involved.

Sugar On Top is winless in seven attempts, finishing 2nd, 4th, 3rd in her last three races. She placed 2nd behind Sailor’s Treasure by 1 ½ lengths in a $12,600 race.

That was a good effort, but hasn’t gotten any closer. She showed 3rd most recently in a $12,350 assignment. Against this weak field, Sugar On Top should be the toughest runner.

Tizona is 7 for 37 and should compete for the top prize in this one. He has finished 2nd, 1st, 2nd, 5th in his previous four outings.

Tizona most recently had a win on September 12 for an $18,000 purse. That was an impressive effort to defeat Mahi Mahi by 2 lengths.

In his most recent start, Tizona looked fine to finish 5th for $33,150. After not going so well up in class, Tizona is back down to $23,800.

Noble Pursuit is 7 for 16 and is a pretty good success rate. He’s finished 1st, 3rd, 1st in his previous three outings.

In Noble Pursuit’s last outing, he beat Tizona by 1 ¼ lengths in a $20,600 assignment. That worked out well for Noble Pursuit after showing 3rd on September 9 for $33,000.

Staying down in class in a rematch against Tizona, Noble Pursuit should have enough for another winning run.

The final race at Turf Paradise is a 7 ½ furlong assignment with $23,800 available in prize money. I’d give a look at Outlaw Daisy and Opal Creek to win.

Outlaw Daisy has finished 9th, 7th, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd in five career races. She is coming along after placing 2nd in three straight events.

In her most recent assignment, Outlaw Daisy placed 2nd behind Runningonthetafuel by a half-length for a $14,300 prize. This was after placing 2nd behind Ghosted Girl by 9 lengths in a $20,600 race.

Opal Creek should be tough to beat in this one. The No. 4 has finished 6th, 4th, 4th in three assignments. In her most recent appearance, she went 4th in a $48,300 event.

Before that attempt, Opal Creek finished 4th for $64,300 on November 20. In easier races at Turf Paradise after a transfer from Woodbine, expect Opal Creek to look like a winner.

Sometimes missing key players can bring a team together. The Rockets, losers of seven in a row, have suspended Christian Wood and Kevin Porter Jr. for this game because of the way they acted after a 124-111 loss to the Nuggets this past Saturday in Houston's last game.
Wood and Porter probably are the Rockets' two most talented players. So why get involved with Houston?
Here are the reasons: A huge number, situation, 76ers coaching situation, Philly's current home problems and the belief that the Wood and Porter suspensions might ensure an all-out effort from the rest of the Rockets.
Philadelphia has won three in a row - all on the road. This is the 76ers' first home game since Dec. 23. That's perhaps a good thing for the 76ers, who are 2-7 in their last nine home contests, 1-8 ATS.
The 76ers return home fat and happy off a satisfying, 110-102, victory against the Nets this past Thursday. The 76ers were without head coach Doc Rivers and assistant coaches Sam Cassell and Brian Adams due to COVID protocols. Rivers isn't expected back today.

Monday NBA Free play. My selection is on Brooklyn minus the points over Memphis at 7:40 pm et on Monday.
This sets up as a smash spot for the Nets as they look to bounce back from consecutive losses to open this homestand and three straight losses at home overall. While the Nets are as healthy as they've been all season, the Grizzlies continue to play on without a number of key contributors due to Covid protocols. The scintillating play of Ja Morant have helped them keep rolling along, winners of four games in a row (3-1 ATS) entering this contest. Here though, they'll be playing in their fourth city in the last nine nights while the Nets have been at home since sweeping an L.A. double-dip on December 25th and 27th. You can be sure the Nets haven't forgotten that they dropped both meetings with the Grizzlies last season. They couldn't ask for a better spot to gain an ounce of revenge, I look for them to win this one going away. Take Brooklyn.
