Rocket Picks : Gulfstream Park and Aqueduct for January 13, 2022

The action rolls on with a new week! For the free pick 4, we will head to Aqueduct today, which has another good Thursday card. We will also be covering Gulfstream Park today for the paid Rockets, so be sure to check those out. Last week, the paid Rockets hit the Pick 5 on Saturday at Oaklawn for nearly $1,000 AND the Pick 5 Sunday at Santa Anita for over $2,000!! Let’s kick off the week in a good way!

Below is our free Late Pick 4 for Aqueduct:

    Aqueduct January 13, 2022

    Race 6: Claiming

#6 To a T will move down in class considerably after facing tough allowance horses at Gulfstream Park last time out. #1A High School Crush runs first off the claim today for a trainer who should be able to move the horse up a bit.

    Race 7: Starter Allowance

#8 Mister Candy Ride runs first off the claim for Rice in this spot after running a solid second last time out. #7 Royal Tryst was the horse that beat our top choice last time out, and could do the same once again today.

    Race 8: Allowance Optional Claiming

#2 Green Light Go drops down to allowance company today, which is where he excels. He should get to the lead and will be hard to catch if that happens. #4 Hanaleis Houdini was close in a similar race to this one last time out, and should be competitive again today.

    Race 9: Maiden Claiming

#10 Dr. Levy will drop way down in class for this race, and also runs as a first time gelding, which should help his chances greatly. #3 Illustrious was third at a higher level last time out, and should be able to compete with this group today with a clean trip.

    THE TICKET

    $.50 Pick 4 (Races 6-9) 1A,6 / 1,3,6,7,8 / 2,4 / 3,5,10 – $30

Aqueduct Horses in Focus for Thursday, January 13
Posted on January 12, 2022 by David Aragona

          RACE 1: LABARDE (#2)

Fromanothamutha was developing nicely before his connections swung for the fences in the Remsen. He didn’t handle the step up in trip and company that day, and faded through the stretch. Yet now he’s cutting back to a more appropriate distance while facing maidens again. Ray Handal has been quoted as saying that he’s looking to use this race as a stepping stone to the Gotham, so a victory is expected. He certainly has the credentials, as he exits a very strong maiden affair on Oct. 21, out of which the first, third, and fourth place finishers have all since won with 100+ TimeformUS Speed Figures. The favorite will be tough to beat, but I am interested in one alternative. Labarde’s overall form looks inferior, but I wouldn’t put too much stock in his last race. He got squeezed back to last at the start and then was heavily restrained while extremely rank at the back of the pack. He was passing some tired runners through the lane even after that eventful journey but was never in contention after the disastrous start. He’s better than that and possesses much more early speed, which he displayed early in his career. I don’t love his Saratoga form from the summer, but that was during a time when the Saffie Joseph barn was going through a pronounced cold spell. He must break better this time with the blinkers staying on, but I believe this horse is better than the speed figures indicate.

          RACE 5: CUPIDS GIRL (#7)

Shock Leader took a big step forward with the switch to turf last time, which shouldn’t come as a major surprise given her pedigree. She’s a half-sister to multiple turf winners Sand Dancer ($311k) and Shock Leader ($220k), though some other siblings handled both surfaces. She met a pretty good rival in Radio Days in the dirt debut, and seemed more professional overall second time out, showing speed before getting caught at the wire. I just don’t see the value in taking this horse at a relatively short price off turf form. The one switching surfaces who I prefer is Champagne Poetry. She took some notable action on the tote board in her debut to get bet all the way down to 5-2. She was a step slow into stride and then raced in traffic heading into the far turn before getting spun very wide approaching the quarter pole. She finished well all things considered, and the switch to dirt shouldn’t bother her at all. Carpe Diem is a versatile sire, and it’s mostly dirt pedigree on the dam’s side, as the dam is a half-sister to G2 Peter Pan winner Madefromlucky. She makes plenty of sense, but my top pick is another second time starter. Cupids Girl put in an encouraging effort on debut here in late November. She broke very slowly but quickly got herself back into the race on the backstretch. She advanced willingly while following rivals on the far turn, and briefly had to wait for room in upper stretch before switching outside. This filly finished gamely once she got into the clear, displaying some ability despite losing by over 11 lengths. That was a strong field for the level, headed by impressive debut winner Send for Me. She probably isn’t facing a rival that talented this time, and she certainly has room for improvement.

          RACE 7: ROYAL TRYST (#7)

Blu Grotto may go favored here off his runner-up finish to No Burn at this level last month. However, I’m somewhat concerned about the stretch-out to 9 furlongs for this horse. He’s really come to hand as a one-run closer and those types generally do best in one-turn races. He got a nice trip from Jose Ortiz last time but just ran out of ground chasing home the winner late. He’s obviously a player, but he may get overbet with that career-best speed figure staring handicappers in the face. I’m not concerned about the distance for Giocare, who stretches back out off the Rudy Rodriguez claim. This barn does well in these situations, and it’s also notable that this horse has been claimed back by Mike Repole for $10k more than he lost him for two back. Yet I’m most interested in the pair sent out by Linda Rice. Mister Candy Ride and Royal Trust exit the same claiming race at Churchill in which the latter got the upper hand in the late stages, the two having drawn well clear of the rest of the field. The race got a strong 109 TimeformUS Speed Figure, though it should be noted that both of these runners got good trips sitting well behind an early pace duel. Mister Candy Ride has the better overall form, but I’m more confident in Royal Tryst handling this demanding 1 1/8 miles distance. This colt has always been cut out to relish longer trips as a half-brother to accomplished stayers War Story and Land Over Sea. He also ran better than it appears in a couple of dirt starts prior to that last-out victory. Furthermore, Linda Rice is 22 for 62 (35%, $2.10 ROI) first off the claim in dirt routes at Aqueduct over the past 5 years.

              #21
              Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

              Fair Grounds - Race #7
              Picks Notes
#2 Starburst He steps up after wiring a first level allowance group last time out, and he figures to go for it as the inside speed. There isn't a ton of super serious sprint pace in here, so maybe he shakes free and wires these right back.
#3 Supremacy He has been pretty impressive in those last two, scoring both without a ton of trouble, and he is just tactical enough sit close and spy the top choice in the early going. The one to beat.
#4 Super Comet He should be a good fit with this group after trying stakes company and a couple of main-track tries in Canada after opening his career with two dirt sprint wins. He needs to wake up here, and the price probably isn't going to be super appealing to see if he can.
Race Summary Starburst looks like the best of the early pace, and he might be able to control the tempo in a way that leaves him enough late to hold off the very logical Supremacy, who figures to get bet with a big claim on this.

              Fair Grounds - Race #8
              Picks Notes
#8 Ioya Again He figures to offer a decent price while stepping up in search of his third score in a row, and there might be just enough forward players signed on here to set things up for a late rally. Interesting price player in good form.
#9 Big Agenda He has been in with some decent groups in the races on his page, and he gets into an easier spot today after a bit of a modest finish in a tougher condition. Tough dropper, but the recent form isn't much compared to what he's capable of.
#3 Attorney Tim He should get a similar finishing trip to the top choice, and he has been pretty consistently landing shares with this type in recent starts. Might be along again late, especially if the pace is solid.
Race Summary Ioya Again and Attorney Tim seem like the right finishers to try to get over the top in a race with a handful of pressing and spying types who might keep the pace at least fair. Ioya Again will need another step up to handle these, but he's better than ever right now.

              Fair Grounds - Race #9
              Picks Notes
#7 Chardonnay Worth a little look as she comes off a really dull try in her turf debut, and she gets back to the dirt where she showed a bit of pace in previous starts. Wondering if they'll have a go of it from the outside.
#4 Prima Ballerina She has given away ground late in her races, but she has the tactical pace to sit close early and chased a pretty nice winner last time out who was back to try stakes company. Dangerous with these, but I'll give her stablemate the edgee.
#1 My Aim is True She was solid enough in her local debut last time out, but I worry she's a bit overbet in a race that feels like it might be pretty competitive on paper.
Race Summary Chardonnay and Prima Ballerina both race out of the Stidham barn, but the former figures to offer a better number on the board and might like a true dirt route for the first time with a little bit of early pace to play.

                #22
                Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

                Dover Downs - Race #8
                Picks Notes
#2 JUSTASEC N Held well under demanding fractions, takes some catching.
#7 VOYAGER Gapped in pocket, led briefly between calls in stretch, third in blanket finish.
#3 ITSROCKANDROLL A Steady check-getter rallied first-over to just miss last week.
Race Summary Justasec N started from the second tier, led through a :55 middle half and just missed in a repeat attempt. He can handle the class rise as Tetrick's choice on a double call. Play 2-1, 2-3 and 2-7 exactas.

                Woodbine-Mohawk Park - Race #2
                Picks Notes
#3 DUKE DEO Can make good use of his speed in upset attempt.
#1 LOUIS Sheds hopples, can be forward factor long way if he minds manners.
#6 TYMAL TEMPO Seeks duplicate of latest but offers little value.
Race Summary Trying to beat morning-line favorite Tymal Tempo, who finished second to a 36-1 longshot and had a bad breaking habit prior. Duke Deo is worth a second look on his return to town. He has speed, ran second to the 1-to-5 favorite two starts ago and was overhauled by the two favorites last out at half-mile Flamboro Downs. Play a 1,2 with 1,2,5,6 exacta.

                Woodbine-Mohawk Park - Race #3
                Picks Notes
#9 TUCKERS OUT Tactical decision proved costly, can rebound, post the concern.
#10 JC'S ROYAL TEASE Won twice in December, but not when he started from post 10.
#1 SWANS HONEY Buried lesser at Flamboro, takes on the boys from the rail.
Race Summary Tuckers Out stayed on the rail on the final turn as the outer flow developed and didn't find room until he angled to mid-track in the final sixteenth. He just missed and galloped out in front. Bet on him to win and place despite negative post switch.

                  Jerry Shottenkirk's Daily Picks

                  Gulfstream Park - Race #3
                  Picks Notes
#6 Red Flag Alert Ended 2021 by losing a photo at Hawthorne and returns to where he broke his maiden in April. The Winebaugh stable claimed him when he won and got its first win from him at Arlington in August.
#8 Buenisimo Was up in time and was claimed by Crichton and gets Saez for his first for the new barn; expect another good effort.
#1 Chao Ran a solid second on this track last out and looks good in first off the turf.
Race Summary Red Flag Agent won his only synth appearance and ended last year in good form; likely to be overlooked in the wagering.

                  Gulfstream Park - Race #6
                  Picks Notes
#3 Hallawallah Was good in handicap races here last year with a win and a second in two starts at that level and has some late punch.
#4 Happy Constitution Has kept some good company and can be a factor in her first of the year.
#1 Fire On Time Won two of three, including her last one at Churchill in November; likes to be on the front end and will go for the lead from the rail.
Race Summary Hallawallah runs well locally and has the class to prevail in this spot; should benefit from following a lively pace.

                  Gulfstream Park - Race #9
                  Picks Notes
#2 Silky Warrior Has shown considerable improvement since being sent route distances; broke her maiden going 1 5-16th miles at Kentucky Downs and was moving well when third in a starter allowance at Keeneland.
#4 Mezcal Probable favorite comes off a second-place finish going 1 3-16 miles at Aqueduct after a 1 1-4-mile maiden win at Belmont; enjoys the chance to stretch out.
#7 Champagne Ivy Has done well over the Gulfstream Park turf and has been effective with distance; has been fairly close in stakes races in three of her last four.
Race Summary Silky Warrior has gotten better with added distances and it looks like she can get the 1 1-2 miles.

                    Horse Racing Selections – 13th January 2022
                    By AlwaysBackWinners

Thursday’s all-weather cards come from Gosforth and Chelmsford.

At the latter, the handicaps have gone 6 & 7 runner with Channel Packet one we have followed going in the (18.30). Mick Appleby’s charge is well handicapped with Theodore Ladd’s claim. Goes well enough at the track and after a couple of efforts at 8f steps back up to the 10f. One for the lumpers around 7/2?

Rockesbury goes to post on what would be third go for us in the classified (19.30). The way our season has gone, could well go in Nonetheless, despite getting Daniel Muscutt up top has shown little from the front at the business end of those races we have backed in to suggest she is going to improve today.

At Newcastle, just one of note going in the (14.20). Mick Appleby’s yard running consistently, and heading the AW table, saddles up For Peat’s Sake. Still looks more of a C6 type and at wipes yer face prices will leave.

Will pass up today’s meets and get back on the case tomorrow.

                    Today’s member’s notes are below….

Back in the morning around 8.30 am .

BOL (Best Of Luck!) with any of your betting selections.

Have a good day & stay safe!

Aqueduct Racetrack Selections for January 13, 2022 – Horse Racing Picks

BetOnline has seven thoroughbred tracks available for wagering on the Thursday card. The most notable tracks on the calendar are Aqueduct Racetrack, Fair Grounds, and Gulfstream Park this afternoon.

                        Industry Leading 9% Cashback!

The stakes scene is non-existent on Thursday, though things will pick up tomorrow at Turf Paradise. If small stakes racing excites you, then Turf Paradise has what you’re looking for on the Thursday card.

The running of the $60,000 Walter R. Cluer Memorial Stakes and $60,000 Queen of the Green Stakes will be in the desert tomorrow afternoon. You can find more lucrative racing at Aqueduct today.

We’ll open the afternoon in New York at Aqueduct. They have nine races worth $566,000 in prize money on this card. Head below for our free Aqueduct Racetrack picks on January 13, 2022.

                        Distance:7 Furlongs
                        Purse:$80,000

The opener at Aqueduct Racetrack covers 7 furlongs on the dirt. Improper and Fromanothamutha should have a big chance to score in this assignment.

Improper is making his debut on Thursday after some encouraging work in the morning. The $350,000 colt should be good for a bold effort in the stretch.

In his most recent workout, Improper was timed at 37.55 seconds at 4 furlongs on January 6. If I’m giving a horse a chance to beat Fromanothamutha, it has to be Improper.

Fromanothamutha has gone winless in five races, finishing 7th, 3rd, 2nd, 2nd, 7th in five attempts. That doesn’t sound like much, but Fromanothamutha is dropping in class.

The No. 4 placed 2nd behind Mo Donegal by 1 ½ lengths in a $90,000 assignment on October 21. After that promising start, Fromanothamutha finished 7th in the $250,000 Remsen Stakes (Gr. 2) on December 4.

Sliding down in class to the $80,000 level, expect more from Fromanothamutha. This looks like his to win.

                        Purse:$88,000

Race 8 covers a mile on the dirt for a $88,000 purse. The Sound and Green Light Go are on my watchlist to win.

The Sound is 3 for 7 in his career and should find this easier than recently. He’s finished 1st, 6th, 9th, 6th in his last four attempts.

In his last win, The Sound beat Mo Mosa by a nose in a $85,000 event on January 29. The Sound most recently finished 6th in a $124,000 assignment at Churchill Downs on April 28.

Green Light Go is 3 for 11 and should enjoy a great chance at winning this one. He’s been stakes racing, with his previous three entries grade 3 events.

Green Light Go most recently placed 2nd behind Hopeful Treasure by a head in the $200,000 Fall Highweight Handicap (Gr. 3). That was a nice race after finishing 6th on August 1 in the $150,000 Vigil Stakes (Gr. 3) on August 1 at Woodbine.

Down to the $88,000 level, look at Green Light Go to kick free in the stretch run.

                        Purse:$32,000

Race 9 is a $32,000 event covering a mile on the dirt. Illustrious and Dr. Levy should have a good showing in the final race at Aqueduct on Thursday.

Expect Illustrious to be tough from the No. 3 hole. The gelding has finished 7th, 4th, 3rd in three races. He’s coming on and showing improvements at least.

Illustrious showed 3rd on December 18 in a $38,000 event after finishing 4th on October 30 in a $32,000 outing. He should be close at the wire.

Dr. Levy has finished 3rd, 7th in two outings in his career. As a rookie on November 6 at Belmont Park, Dr. Levy showed 3rd in a $90,000 race. That was an impressive debut.

After going 7th in a $80,000 assignment on December 2, Dr. Levy will drop considerably in class. If the $300,000 gelding can’t handle this field, that’s going to be a warning flag. However, he should get this done with a win.

Fair Grounds Race Course Selections for January 13, 2022 – Horse Racing Picks

There are horse racing options at BetOnline on Thursday afternoon and evening. You can get on the ponies all day or pick your spots. If you’re not digging too deep into your bankroll, then there’s nothing wrong with small plays throughout the day.

                          Industry Leading 9% Cashback!

However, if your units are higher, I’d pick your spot. There is plenty of action on Thursday, so you can do that if you wish. We’re at Aqueduct Racetrack and Fair Grounds Race Course on Thursday afternoon. These are two of the biggest tracks operational today.

Fair Grounds Race Course has nine races, five on the dirt and four on the turf, with $315,000 in prize money available. Head below for our free Fair Grounds Race Course picks on January 13, 2022.

Race 2 runs for a mile on the dirt for a $25,000 purse. Costello’s Kitten and Cause to Cruise are going to be tough to beat in this one.

Costello’s Kitten has finished 7th, 3rd, 6th, 1st in his last four races. He is coming off a strong performance to beat Ronic by a half-length in a $33,000 assignment on November 5.

Costello’s Kitten looked good in that one after finishing 6th on September 29 for a $33,000 purse in the same class. If he’s going to run in his most recent form, then Costello’s Kitten should be a solid contender.

Cause to Cruise has finished 9th, 1st, 1st in three attempts. The colt won back-to-back outings on October 11 and December 5.

He defeated Jug Rock by 6 ¾ lengths in a $20,000 event and then followed up with a half-length $31,000 win. Cause to Cruise is going to be tough in this form.

Race 3 covers 6 furlongs for a $18,000 purse. This dirt race should feature Desoto’s War and Mists of Time in the stretch.

Desoto’s War is a one-time winner in ten attempts. He has finished 3rd, 7th, 2nd, 2nd in his last four attempts.

Desoto’s War placed 2nd in back-to-back outings on November 17 for a $31,000 race, and then 2nd behind Citizen West by 5 lengths in a $18,000 race.

Back at it in the same grade, expect Desoto’s War to run a strong race. Mists of Time should be able to give him a battle, though.

Mists of Time is a one-timer in 20 attempts. That’s not a good success rate, but he’s been competing against tough runners in his class.

The No. 3 most recently finished 5th, 3rd, 5th. In his last race, he finished 5th for a $38,000 event on December 20. This was after showing 3rd on November 26 in a $54,000 assignment.

Dropping in class to $18,000, Mists of Time should be a top contender to go to the winner’s circle.

Race 7 covers 6 furlongs for a $54,000 purse on Thursday. Give your attention to Super Comet and Supremacy to win on these terms.

Super Comet is 2 for 5 in his career, finishing 1st, 1st, 4th, 4th, 5th in his previous five attempts. He was a back-to-back winner to open his career, with a 1 length win in a $97,000 race in his most recent win on June 21.

After that win, Super Comet has been outside of the top-3. He most recently finished 5th on December 5 at Woodbine in a $108,700 event. That was too tough, so a drop in grade should do him well.

Supremacy is in great form for Brad Cox going into Thursday. He’s finished 5th, 1st, 1st with back-to-back wins entering this one.

Supremacy defeated Purple Dream by ¾ lengths in a $32,000 assignment on March 27. He was able to follow up with a 2 ¾ length win at Churchill Downs for $118,000 on May 1.

He’s coming off a layoff, but has been running in great form in workouts. Supremacy was clocked at 47.80 and 48.80 seconds at 4 furlongs and then 1:00.00 and 1:00.80 at 5 furlongs.

Supremacy can repeat with another effort like that on Thursday.

                                # 8 FENESTRA 10/1

                                # 3 REBEL WAR 9/2

                                # 4 HIT THE SEAM 4/1

My selection for this event is FENESTRA especially at 10/1. Cerin has this gelding running well and is a very good selection based on the decent speed figures garnered in sprint races recently. With a very good 91 speed figure last time out, will surely be a factor in this contest. Going in a dirt sprint race gives this gelding a solid shot. REBEL WAR - Hernandez will probably be able to get this gelding to break out early in this event. Has very good Equibase Class Figures relative to this group of animals - worth a look. HIT THE SEAM - Has some interesting handicapping angles which make this one a play. Overall, has one of the top earnings per start in dirt sprint contests in this bunch.
