NCAA-B | Princeton vs Cornell
Play on: Cornell PK -110 at linepros
Forget any preconceived perceptions of low-scoring, half-court games when it comes to the Ivy League. This is especially so when Cornell and Princeton play.
Princeton averages 80.6 points. Cornell averages even more with an 11th-best in the country 81.3 points per game.
The two schools get together Friday in a pick'em type matchup.
I'm going to back Cornell, which is 7-0 at home and has covered all five of its lined home contests.
This is just Princeton's second road game since Dec. 11. The Tigers failed to cover against Dartmouth in an 84-80 victory in their last away game on January 22.
Princeton nipped Cornell, 72-70, as a 5 1/2-point home favorite in the first meeting on January 8. The Tigers shot 50 percent from the floor and had more free attempts than Cornell, which shot 44 percent from the field.
Neither team is strong defensively. But Princeton ranks a horrendous 325th in defensive field goal percentage and 318th in 3-point defense.
I see Cornell getting revenge in keeping its unbeaten home record intact.Comment

NCAA-B | Creighton vs Seton Hall
Play on: Seton Hall -5½ -106 at pinnacle
My free play is on Seton Hall at 7:00 ET.
Kevin Willard took over at Seton Hall for the 2010-11 season and had led the Pirates to four straight NCAA tournaments before the 2020 tournament was canceled because of COVID (Seton Hall was 21-9). However, the Pirates were just 14-13 last year and lost to the 6-10 Mamukelashvili (17.5 & 7.6), who was co-player-of-the-year in the Big East. The Pirates opened the season 9-1 but a two-week break without a game (COVID issues) in mid-to-late December, broke the team's momentum. When Seton Hall got back on the court, it has lost SIX of 10 games (all in the Big East). 'The Hall' will welcome Creighton to Newark (NJ), looking to break a four-game losing streak in the series. Creighton lost all FIVE starters from last year's 22-9 team that made a Sweet 16 appearance. It was supposed to be a rebuilding year for Coach McDermott but the Bluejays have rebuilt quickly and are 13-7 (5-4 in the Big East).
Creighton's starting guards are freshman Nembhard (11.5-3.1-4.1) and O'Connell (3.4 PPG last year), who is averaging 12.5 & 5.5 this season. 7-1 center Kalkbrenner returned (5.9 & 3.5 LY) and is a 'new man,' averaging 11.7 & 7.1. The 6-7 Hawkins is a Div II transfer and leads in scoring (13.1) and rebounding (7.5) plus 6-7 freshman Kaluma adds 9.0 & 4.7. Depth is an issue and it isn't good news that Kalkbrenner is questionable with an ankle issue. Pirates have EIGHT players scoring between 7.0 and 15.4 PPG. 6-6 swingman Rhoden leads in scoring (15.4), while adding 7.0 RPG. Senior guard Aiken (14.5) is the only other player in double digits and he's missed the last FOUR games. Cole (9.8 & 4.2), Richmond (8.4-3.9-3.9) and Harris (7.0) are all guards. The 6-8 Yetna just misses double digits at 9.3 PPG but is the team's leading rebounder at 7.6 per game. Two 6-10 players, Jackson (7.9 & 4.1) and Samuel (7.8 & 5.9) join Yetna up front.
Seton Hall was 9-1 and ranked 15th in the AP poll when it came back from a two-week break on Dec 29. However, the Pirates lost at home to Providence, the beginning of the team's 4-6 start in the Big East. Its AP ranking is long gone and the rest of the way, Seton Hall will need to focus on climbing in the Big East standings for a run in the Big East tourney. I believe the Pirates are in a good spot here to play an excellent game, end its four-game losing streak to Creighton and begin a late-season 'push.' Lay the points.
Good luck...LarryComment

NCAA-B | Quinnipiac vs St. Peter's
Play on: UNDER 137½ -110
Friday CBB Free play. My selection is on the 'under' between Quinnipiac and St. Peter's at 7 pm et on Friday.
Both of these teams are in need of a strong bounce-back performance defensively and I think they get it on Friday night. Quinnipiac has given up 87 and 85 points over its last two games but should certainly benefit from facing a St. Peter's squad that ranks 230th in the nation in adjusted tempo and 274th in adjusted offensive efficiency (both according to KenPom). The Peacocks gave up 85 points in their most recent game but that was against an elite offensive opponent in Iona. Quinnipiac ranks 192nd in adjusted offensive efficiency despite checking in 338th in the country in terms of strength of schedule. The first meeting between these two teams this season got to 128 points and even that modest total was only thanks to a combined 35 made free throws (on 53 attempts). Note that these two teams only get to the charity stripe an average of 35 times combined this season. You would have to go back four meetings to find the last time these teams combined to go 'over' the total we're dealing with on Friday. Look for that trend to continue here. Take the under.Comment

NBA | Celtics vs Pistons
Play on: Celtics -8½ -106 at pinnacle
1* NBA - Celtics/Pistons FREE PICK on Celtics -8.5
Friday's Free NBA Pick is on the Boston Celtics as a 8.5-point road favorite against the Detroit Pistons. I got no problem laying the big number with Boston in this one. Celtics seem to have figured this thing out and are finally playing like the contender we expected to see from the start. Boston has won 3 straight and 5 of 6 overall. They are getting it done on both sides of the ball during this stretch. The Pistons are awful, dealing with injuries and playing on no rest after last night's 117-128 loss at home to the Timberwolves. Bet the Celtics -8.5!Comment
