Turf Paradise Selections for February 9, 2022 – Horse Racing Picks

Turf Paradise Selections for February 9, 2022 – Horse Racing Picks

We’re ready to run on the racetrack Wednesday at the BetOnline racebook. BetOnline is putting on at least eight racecourses for wagering on the card. Don’t go looking for stakes racing because you’re not going to find it, but it’s a decent card with enough options to be had on the racetrack.

The feature race for this coming weekend is the $600,000 Razorback Handicap (Gr. 3) at Oaklawn Park in Arkansas. There isn’t anything of the sort on Wednesday, but you don’t need stakes racing to have winners. We’re at Gulfstream Park and Turf Paradise on Wednesday afternoon.

              Industry Leading 9% Cashback!

For our Gulfstream picks, head to the Gulfstream Park page for more information. Turf Paradise has eight races worth $125,400 in prize money in the desert this afternoon. Head below for our best Turf Paradise picks on February 9, 2022.

Race 2 is an 870-yard sprint on the dirt. Look for Captain Scotty and Classy Class to have a big run in them.

Captain Scotty is 6 for 24 in his career and should have a chance to go in Wednesday afternoon. He’s finished 5th, 2nd, 2nd, 6th in his previous four assignments in his career.

In his most recent race, Captain Scotty finished 6th on January 10 in a $29,400 assignment. This was after a solid attempt to place 2nd behind Self Taught by 1 ¼ lengths on March 27 in a $31,000 race.

Captain Scotty should be able to handle these terms on Wednesday afternoon to be more competitive. Classy Class should be right there fighting back against Captain Scotty.

Classy Class has finished 1st, 1st, 1st, 3rd, 4th in his previous five outings. In his most recent, he finished 4th in the $60,000 Zany Tactics Stakes on December 17.

Classy Class was on a hat-trick, most recently winning on April 21 for a $19,000 purse by a neck over Keller’s Gold. From the inside rail, expect Classy Class to be tough to beat.

              Purse:$11,480

Race 6 is a mile on the dirt for an $11,480 purse. Consider Ms Michelle and Info’s Treasure as top contenders in the sixth race at Turf Paradise.

Ms Michelle is a one-time winner through 14 attempts, with a win in the summer at Arizona Downs. Since then, Ms Michelle has been winless in six races.

In her most recent outing, Ms Michelle finished 4th on January 20 for a $19,000 purse. It was an alright performance, but Ms Michelle needs a drop in grade to get into contention.

Info’s Treasure is a one-time winner in 25 races and is picking up good progress recently. She has placed 2nd in back-to-back events going into today.

Info’s Treasure placed behind Princess Soiree by 2 ½ lengths in an $11,480 event and then behind Rational by a neck in the same grade. The mare continues to get closer and has a good opportunity in this one.

              Distance:1 Mile
              Purse:$14,140

Race 7 covers a mile on the dirt for a $14,140 purse. Look for Tacoflavoredkisses and Cats Touch to have promising runs in this event.

Tacoflavoredkisses is 2 for 16 in his career with a good chance in this one. It’s going to be easier than Tacoflavoredkisses has experienced recently.

He has finished 5th, 3rd, 5th in his last three outings. In his last assignment, Tacoflavoredkisses finished 5th for a $26,000 purse on January 17.

Before that run, he showed 3rd on December 5 for a $22,000 prize. Down to $14,140, expect better from Tacoflavoredkisses.

Cats Touch is 9 for 40 in his career and has done well recently. He’s been a consistent beast, finishing 1st, 1st, 2nd, 1st, 1st, in his last five outings.

Cats Touch is coming off a ¾ length win over Mad Luther in a $13,020 event. It was his second in a row after a $12,320 win. On the inside rail, look for Cats Touch to use it to his advantage. He has some good value in race 7.

Gulfstream Park Selections for February 9, 2022 – Horse Racing Picks

The BetOnline racebook is offering a decent card on Wednesday with eight racecourses worth of action. The most notable racetrack running on Wednesday has to be Gulfstream Park in Florida. Aqueduct Racetrack or Santa Anita Park is not meeting today, so Gulfstream Park has a small spotlight for this card.

                Industry Leading 9% Cashback!

Behind Gulfstream Park, you can find the likes of Delta Downs, Tampa Bay Downs, Turf Paradise, and Penn National. It was a fun day in New Mexico at Sunland Park. We swept the Sunland card with three winners, two of which closed at plus money.

There aren’t any stakes racing events on Wednesday, but hopefully, winners to be booked. For our first stop, we’re going to Gulfstream Park. Gulfstream has nine races worth $298,000 this afternoon. Head below for our best Gulfstream Park picks on February 9, 2022.

Race 2 is a 5-furlong assignment for $41,000 on the synthetic track. Expect Headline Hunter and Stuck on Kitten to come through with a big chance in the stretch.

Headline Hunter is 2 for 6 in her career with consistent running. She has finished in the top-3 five of six attempts, with a win on November 14. In her last four, she’s gone 2nd, 1st, 3rd, 2nd.

Three races back, Headline Hunter beat Polished Lady by 3 ¾ lengths for a $34,000 purse. That was a progressive attempt from Headline Hunter.

Since then, she has finished 3rd in a $61,000 race and 2nd behind Phantom Vision by a neck in the same class on January 23. Down in class, look for Headline Hunter to have the best chance at going to the winner’s circle.

                Distance: 1 Mile
                Purse:$37,000

Race 4 is a mile for a $37,000 purse this afternoon. I’m a G Six and Tune In should garner attention in this one.

I’m a G Six is 8 for 33 and has stakes experience. He ran in the $252,000 Philip H. Iselin Stakes (Gr. 3) on August 21, finishing 6th.

Following that attempt, I’m a G Six showed 3rd in a $34,000 event on October 30. That finish had to be disappointing for I’m a G Six down in class.

He went stakes racing again on December 4, this time finishing 5th in the $85,000 Claiming Crown Rapid Transit Starter Stakes. Another class drop should put I’m a G Six back in contention.

Tune In is 8 for 20 in his career, and has finished in the top-3 in 10 of her previous 11 outings. He’s finished 1st, 2nd, 1st, 6th in his previous four races, so the run came to an end on December 4.

After a 2 length win in a Ludington for a $37,000 purse on November 14, Tune In finished 6th in the $125,000 Claiming Crown Jewel Starter. That was a tough race and Tune In couldn’t handle the chore.

Down to $37,000 where Tune In has been winning, expect a big run from this gelding back in a more beatable race.

                Purse:$41,000

Race 7 carries a $41,000 purse covering a mile on the dirt across a mile. Rebelde and Tiz Rye Time are on my watchlist going into this event on Tuesday.

Rebelde is 6 for 31 in his career and is coming off a bold performance for a win on January 20. It was a nice win for Rebelde after finishing 7th, 6th, 5th in his previous three attempts.

After finishing 5th on October 14 in a $34,000 assignment, Rebelde showed improvement on January 20 for a $28,0000 prize. He beat Meade by 1 ¾ lengths in that one and hopes for continued improvement.

Tiz Rye Time is 1 for 15 in his career, with a win in the second outing of his career on December 18, 2019. That was a $50,000 win for Tiz Rye Time to provide his team with some false hope.

He’s been running up in class and will drop down to $41,000 on Wednesday. This race looks on easier terms than what Tiz Rye Time has been experiencing recently.

Gulfstream Park Picks: Saffie Joseph's hegemony continues on February 9

Gulfstream Park Picks - Wednesday, February 9, 2022

                      Race 1: 5-8-2-6
                      Race 2: 5-4-7-1
                      Race 3: 3-7-5-6
                      Race 4: 1-3-5-4
                      Race 5: 10-3-11-2
                      Race 6: 7-1-8-4
                      Race 7: 1-7-6-5
                      Race 8: 8-1-2-9
**Most Likely Winner: Strong Embrace #10 (Race 5)**
**Best Value: Silver Cloud #5 (Race 2)**

Most Likely Winner: (Race 5: Strong Embrace #10, 6/1):

I am puzzled that Kathleen O’Connell’s filly by Strong Mandate is 6/1 on the M/L. After winning on debut at Tampa Bay back in late November, we would expect her to be ready for more action at Gulfstream. I realize the TAM alums do not always garner the respect that they might deserve … still, here is a conditioner with some excellent abilities, who has a strong Meet going on, as we speak. What makes this budding turfer even more inviting is that she gets Jose Ortiz in the irons. His clip right now is impressive, even though it seems like he just arrived from riding up at NYRA. I cannot imagine that this one will be 6/1 come post time … dare to dream.

                      Wager: $100 Win, #10

Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 2: Silver Cloud #5, 5/1):

Trainer Danny Gargan has a solid record when it comes to “1st outs” and spotting his new charge’s next race. This 4-yr-old filly by Goldencents was firing in some tough AW sprints up at Arlington last summer. Those were some difficult OC75k events, and she made the switch to the turf with ease. The last time she competed was at picturesque Keeneland, in one of their challenging Clm Co. races. A “place” finish was none too shabby … Gargan pairs with top rider, Luis Saez, and I think the conditioner has her ready off-the-bench. Looking at her works … she should be fine. What a play!

                      Wager: Graduated Wager, WPS, $100 Bankroll, #5 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)

Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 7: Dirt, 1 Mile, ALLW40k, 4+):

The Wednesday “feature” is this contest … going 1 Mile on the MT at Gulfstream. With a field of 7, it presents us with a solid betting opportunity, as long as scratches abate. When it comes to a race time favorite, I am sure that Rohan Crichton’s Revelde #7 is going to take some action. This isn’t a “Super Barn,” but they have some quality runners. Irad Ortiz gets the call, and he is always over bet. Just off-the-claim in January, the 5-yr-old by Khozan won last time out. Now, his new outfit is getting aggressive and sending him up the ladder in class. One other that will be getting some attention, belongs to leading conditioner, Saffie Joseph. Rivaling Todd Pletcher for the “Title” in South Florida is never easy, but Joseph is more than just hanging tough. I like Tiz Rye Time #6, a 5-yr-old gelding by Tiznow. Not only does he get Tyler Gafflione, but he is going to take another crack at this level. Last time, he just missed the “minors,” even though he held the top spot on the tote. Ownership group, C2 Racing, is looking for another score at this Meet. I am going to spurn both, as far as either being a top selection ... in other words, both are a pair of underlays. Instead, I am much keener on Carlos David’s Gump #1. This experienced son of Brethren was 3rd, actually finishing ahead of Joseph’s #6. He can build on that effort, and should, this time around with Junior Alvarado back aboard. Maybe we can get the price to drift a bit from 9/2 towards 5/1 … what a gift that would be! A top selection, even though he only has 1 win in 15 starts at Gulfstream. Optimism … springs eternal …

                      Wager: Trifecta Box, $2, 1/6/7

Top Horse Racing Picks for Wednesday, February 9, 2022
By J.W. Paine in Horse Racing

I only agreed with the morning line twice for my Wednesday picks for Delta Downs, Penn National Race Course, and Sam Houston Race Park. One was in the first race at Delta Downs, while the other was the last race at Sam Houston.

All the rest were at more profitable odds, including a 5/1 sleeper at Penn National and a 10/1 moneymaker at Sam Houston.

You can review the entire race-cards for all three tracks at one of our best horseracing wagering sites.

                        Good luck!
My Wednesday Picks for Delta Downs

Let’s start on the main track with race one, a five-furlong claiming race for Louisiana-bred fillies and mares four years old and upward that have never won two races. It looks like the 3/1 morning-line favorite is the right pick: Julio Choice, ridden by veteran jockey Timothy Thornton.

This four-year-old filly finished in the money six of her nine career starts, winning one—her graduation run last month here at Delta Downs. And that puts her in the statistical lead of this nine-horse field.

Thirty-year veteran of horse racing, Brian A. Huval trains Julio Choice for owner Jonathan LeBlanc.

Race four is a five-furlong allowance optional claiming race on the dirt track for four-year-olds and upward. My money’s on the fourth-favored (at 6/1) Carbon Stryker, with Joel Dominguez in the irons.

This four-year-old gelding moneyed 13 of his 19 career starts, winning four, including the My Dandy Division of the Clarence Scharbauer, Jr. Texas Stallion Stakes (Black Type) a year ago last month at Sam Houston Race Park.
Carbon Stryker even showed up for a paycheck in his first pro race ever, the Texas Stallion Stakes-Staunch Avenger Division at Lone Star Park in 2020.

Regularly ranked in the top 100 for wins since 2016, Eduardo Ramirez trains Carbon Stryker for MAT Investments, LLC.

Race six is a five-furlong allowance race on the dirt track for four-year-olds and upward that have never won two races. I’m betting on the 5/1 underdog, Jamaican Me, with Joe Stokes aboard.

This five-year-old gelding moneyed four of his five career starts, winning one. Yes, the favorite has the percentages on his side (two starts, two money finishes, one win). But if history is any indication, I believe we’ll see Jamaican Me in the lead for that last furlong.

Allen Landry trains Jamaican Me for owner Maximo LaMarche. Landry has tapped Stokes to saddle Jamaican Me for all five of his pro races.
Wednesday’s Picks for Penn National Race Course

We’ll begin on the main track with race five, a six-furlong claiming race for fillies and mares four years old and upward that have never won two races. I’m backing the second-favored (at 5/2) Katesaluckygirl, piloted by veteran jockey Tyler Conner.

This four-year-old filly moneyed six of her nine career starts, winning one.

Not only does she have better statistics than the morning-line favorite, but Katesaluckygirl has performed more successfully in her post-grad races.

Longtime horse racing veteran Michael W. Salvaggio, Jr. trains Katesaluckygirl for owner Daniel McConnell.

Race six is a six-furlong claiming run on the dirt track for four-year-olds and upward. I’m betting my two dollars on the fourth-favored (at 4/1) Calculated Thinkin, with top jockey Julio A. Hernandez aboard.

This seven-year-old gelding moneyed 34 of his 48 career starts, winning 13. Calculated Thinking has moneyed this last nine races, five of those wins. Yeah, he’ll do.

Ranked regularly in the top 100 for wins, earnings, or both since 2004, Timothy C. Kreiser trains Calculated Thinkin for Golden Flame Racing.

Race seven is a six-furlong claiming race on the main track for fillies and mares four years old and upward that have never won four races. I’m calling this one for the 5/1 sleeper, Kirby, ridden by Joseph Trejos.

This four-year-old filly finished in the money six of her 17 career starts, winning three, including her last two.
What puts Kirby at the top of my list of this evenly matched six-horse field is that four of her money finishes and two of her wins have been in the last four months.

Kenton Charles Morris trains Kirby for owner Dalton Peart.
My Wednesday Picks for Sam Houston Race Park

We’re beginning with race two, a one-mile starter optional claiming race on the dirt track for four-year-olds and upward. A coupled entry is the 10/1 deep underdog in this nine-horse field, and I say bet the second half of the 1/1A entry to win.

Both Pop Life and Three Run Homer have Rodolfo Guerra listed as jockey, but whoever rides Three Run Homer (the 1A part of the coupled entry) into the starting gate is bound to be visiting the winner’s circle to get his picture taken with a horse.

A six-year-old gelding, Three Run Homer has a slight statistical edge on the 5/2 favorite (Close to Midnight), with 13 money finishes in 33 career starts, eight of them wins.
Sure, we probably won’t see Three Run Homer at the Kentucky Derby this year, but this ain’t the Derby, and the majority of the favorite’s paydays were at least three years ago.

Both Pop Life and Three run Homer are trained by Cesar Govea for L & G Racing Stable.

Race six is a seven-furlong allowance race on the dirt track for four-year-olds and upward. I’m betting on the first half of the 1/1A coupled entry in this race, Maxi Moon.

Both of the coupled entries are listed to be jockeyed by Ry Eikleberry, but as long as Maxi Moon makes it to the starting gate, Maxi Moon’s your best chance—regardless of jockey.

This four-year-old gelding moneyed ten of his 15 career starts, winning five. In comparison, the favorite—Have a Plan—moneyed seven of his 20 career starts, winning four.

Longtime horseracing veteran Karl Broberg trains both Maxi Moon and Pop Life for End Zone Athletics, Inc.

If for some reason Maxi Moon doesn’t make it to the starting gate, bet the second-favored (at 4/1) Mau Mau, ridden by Gerardo Mora.

Trained by Danny Pish for Eleven One Racing Stables, this five-year-old gelding moneyed six of his 16 career starts, winning four, including his two most recent.

Race seven is a six-furlong allowance optional claiming run on the main track for three-year-old fillies. As competitive as this nine-horse field looks, I’m going to stick with the 5/2 morning line favorite, Texas Ascot Queen, piloted by Lane J. Luzzi.

This filly finished in the money two of her three career starts, winning both her second maiden attempt back in July at Lone Star Park, and then a claiming race just last month. She’ll do.

Longtime horse racing veteran J. R. Caldwell trains Texas Ascot Queen for Indigo Racing.

#6 Lil Miss Camille will drop down to the maiden claiming ranks today after a fourth place effort against special weight company last time out. #2 Disperata debuts in this spot for a trainer who usually has his horses ready to go in their first starts.

#4 Drinksonthebeach will run as a gelding for the first time today, while moving to the turf, which should help his chances. #8 Summer Boss also moves over to the turf after a few disappointing recent efforts on the dirt.

                            Race 8: Claiming

#3 Bion Magic drops down in class for this race after running third against starter allowance horses last time out. #4 Nothins Free runs first off the claim today after running second against similar horses in her last start.

                            Race 9: Claiming

#6 Joe Phillips was a winner last time out over this track by a head, and is spotted in a decent next out race today. #8 Western Advantage gets back to the turf for this race, while also dropping down in class, and moving to Tampa Bay Downs from Gulfstream Park.

HorseBetting’s Queensland racing analyst brings you his best bets and quaddie numbers for Wednesday’s nine-race card at Ipswich. As last Wednesday’s meeting was abandoned after the running of Race 1, there are a couple of big fields this week, making for some strong betting opportunities with online Bookmakers. The track is on the improve and is currently rated a Soft 6, while the rail is in the true position for the entire course. The first race will get underway at 1pm AEST.
                              Best Bet – Whodat

Matthew Dunn takes four runners to Ipswich on Wednesday, and we are confident that his best winning chance comes up in race two. Whodat gets the services of in-form jockey Ben Thompson, which is a massive advantage given he has ridden 13 winners from his past 50 rides, including a winning double at Doomben on Saturday and four wins on Sunday at the Sunshine Coast. Whodat is in some good form as well, running in the minor money in three of his past four starts. Now second-up, this four-year-old can win over 1666m in this Maiden Plate. The son of Nicconi ran 1.25 lengths behind Atlantic Eagle on January 15 at Doomben, where he savaged the line over 1350m to run second. Atlantic Eagle went on to win nicely on Sunday at the Sunshine Coast, franking that form. From barrier seven, Thompson will have this gelding in a nice spot, and we expect him to relish the cut in the ground and the rise in trip.

                              Race 2 – Whodat (#6)

Next Best Bet – Scarlet Pimpernel

Tony Gollan and James Orman combine with Scarlet Pimpernel in a 2150m Benchmark 65. This gelding was frustrating for his followers in his second and third runs this campaign, going down on both occasions as a well-backed favourite, but he did enough in his most recent start to get the job done over 2200m at the Sunshine Coast. The son of Lucas Cranach hasn’t been out of the placings in four starts for Gollan, and although the drop back to 2150m may not be his go, especially around the tighter Ipswich track, we do expect him to be fitter for this on the back of a more genuinely run race. He has drawn awkwardly in barrier seven in the eight-horse field, but he has rarely shown gat speed, as he came from last in his maiden win. He’s good enough to win again and is certainly in the right stable.

Best Value Bet – Real Empress

We made Real Empress our value pick at Ipswich on January 9, and although she didn’t get the job done first-up, the heavy market support ($9 into $6.50) and encouraging return run were enough for us to want to be on at her next start. The Desleigh Forster-trained four-year-old showed good form over the winter, with runs behind Starosa and Eloquently jumping off the page in some quality three-year-old races. The mare by Real Saga went around here over 1200m first-up, settled last and ran home strongly to finish just 2.2 lengths away in fifth. Jim Byrne rode her that day and will stick on for Wednesday’s ride, which is a big plus. The rise to 1350m should suit given she won her only race over this trip at Doomben last March, while the way she finished off last time out suggested she needed further. From barrier six, Real Empress can settle a pair or two closer in the run and take some real beating.

The Hillside track at Sandown is scheduled to host an eight-race card on Wednesday afternoon, and HorseBetting brings you best bets, quaddie numbers and top odds from Australia’s top betting sites. The track is rated a Good 4, the rail will be in the true position throughout, and racing kicks off at 3:40pm AEDT.
                                Sandown Best Bet – Inverell

Power couple Clayton Douglas and Jamie Kah are set to combine with their potential Group 1 runner Inverell when he steps out over 1400m at Sandown. The son of Shocking holds a nomination for the Australian Guineas and looks perfectly placed to kick off his campaign with a win here. Outside of his debut win, he simply has had zero luck in his career. He was flattened at a crucial time in the VRC Derby trial in September and then chased home a smart field in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes. The step back to a Class 1 is ideal, and considering he has a win at 1400m when first-up in the past, he looks the goods here.

Next Best at Sandown – Along The River

In the opening leg of the quaddie, we will be hoping the Mathew Ellerton-trained Along The River can make it three wins in his past four starts. The three-year-old colt by Written Tycoon chased home a smart duo in Clemenceau and Squid Game at Flemington on January 1. He is six weeks between runs on Wednesday and looks set to appreciate the drop back to a BM64. Despite drawing barrier two, we anticipate Jamie Kah will have Along The River settled in the rear of the field. He needs to lug 61kg but has a sharp turn of foot and should have the last look at them. We are more than happy to take the $2.90 on offer from Ladbrokes.

Best Value at Sandown – Our Modena

The Patrick Payne-trained Our Modena returns the Sandown Hillside track and will be hopeful of repeating her winning effort at the track two starts back. The five-year-old mare out of Tavistock beat home subsequent winner Yulong Code when putting two lengths on her rivals here on January 5. We expect Josh Richards will have her settled midfield with cover before charging home over the final 300m. With Richards’ 2kg claim, Our Modena will go around with 58kg, which will only benefit her chances of finishing over the top of her rivals. The $9 from Neds looks a nice price.
