AI Picks: $31K Carryover Pick 5 at Turfway | Wednesday

    February 22, 2022 | By Jeremy Plonk

With more than $31,000 in pick five carryover money Wednesday at Turfway Park, horseplayers can take advantage of dead money in the pool to boost payoffs. To assist your handicapping, key stakes selections provided by the 1/ST BET app measure each contender against the 10 leading factors for each race. The 1/ST BET app looks at 52 handicapping factors and more than 200,000 past races to determine its AI selections.

You can use the automated handicapping factors, or create your own factor filters to incorporate angles you prefer. Full-card selections can be found in the 1/ST BET app. We’ve included the official track morning line odds with each runner.

Gulfstream Park Picks: The Ward Exacta on February 23
        By J.N. Campbell

Gulfstream Park Picks - Wednesday, February 23, 2022

        Race 1: 6-7-3-8
        Race 2: 2-1-4-3
        Race 3: 2-5-7-1
        Race 4: 9-12-2-8
        Race 5: 5-10-3-9
        Race 6: 3-2-5-6
        Race 7: 5-2-1-6
        Race 8: 4-3-1-5
**Most Likely Winner: Celestial Cheetah #5 (Race 7)**
**Best Value: Bet On Drama #2 (Race 2)**

Most Likely Winner: (Race 7: Celestial Cheetah #5, 2/1):

With only 1 horse available for a tag in this AOC contest, I would not go against the M/L favorite, a Florida bred from the barn of Peter Walder by Social Inclusion. Lightly-raced over the past year, this filly has some major potential. She could be a stakes horse at some point based on her bloodlines, and once she graduates to higher company, the sky is the limit. In this race, which does not possess that challenging a field, Irad Ortiz takes the mount. His aggressive riding can be either a hindrance or a help … I am hoping that it is the latter.

        Wager: $100 Win, #5

Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 2: Bet On Drama #2, 4/1):

Here is a sprinter that is going to be under bet, what with an overpriced favorite drawn to her inside. The Dobber Barn has this early goer ready to fire, and she is a filly by Big Drama that looks the part. She is dropping into an easier spot after running against MC16k types. Young Carlos Lugo gets the call, and hopefully, if she breaks well, he can hold onto the lead. What a chance to take on one of the world’s greatest jockeys in Irad Ortiz … Let’s hope this one can soar above the M/L.

        Wager: Graduated Wager, WPS, $100 Bankroll, #2 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)

Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 5: Turf, 5F, OC75kn1x, 3):

This is one of those situations where we have a powerful uncoupled entry that is drawn in. For a long shot on this Wednesday, let’s take a gander at a tough turf sprint, going a blazing 5F on the GP grass. This is a high-level OC75kn1x event that is sure to offer bettors some major value. A speed test, I think might come down to who is the best gate jockey. If you miss the break in a spot like this one, it could cost your mount (and the connections) the race. When it comes to trainers who are best at schooling, none can eclipse Wesley Ward. He has a pair of entries here, and either could win. American Starlet #10 is taking on the boys, and she is going to be a tough customer after she broke her maiden last month at Gulfstream with Paco Lopez in the irons. She is going to take money, that is for sure. I like her, but I also think that Ward’s Just Say When #5, a son of Not This Time, has even more potential. Appropriate name for son and sire … don’t you think? If this 3-yr-old gelding can get the jump on this field, then the prize is his. Edwin Gonzalez is solid in spots like these, and he gets overlooked. Ward watched, as this one broke his maiden back at Keeneland back in mid-October. His latest works look like bullets to me, as he is a sprinter, through and through. How about 1st time Lasix? That also makes him an attractive bet at M/L odds of 6/1 … Let’s use both of these Wards, and construct an Exacta Box … does anyone have the guts to make this bet? I do!

Wager: Ward $2 Exacta Box, 5/10

Sam Houston Picks: Intimidation a bet in R7 on February 23
          By J.N. Campbell

Sam Houston Race Park Picks - Wednesday, February 23, 2022

          Race 1: 3-2-7-1
          Race 2: 6-1-2-5
          Race 3: 5-2-1/1A-8
          Race 4: 1-3-6-4
          Race 5: 8-5-7-2
          Race 6: 8-3-2-5
          Race 7: 3-4-2-5
          Race 8: 4-6-2-5
          Race 9: 1-6-2-4
**Most Likely Winner: Gushing Oil #6 (Race 2)**
**Best Value: Cha Cha Mission #4 (Race 8)**

Most Likely Winner: (Race 2: Gushing Oil #6, 3/1):

A former participant in the Remington Park Springboard Mile $400k (2020), this lightly-raced 4-yr-old that is trained by Austin Gustafson looks right. After a long break, he came back to the Sam oval earlier this month, and ended up 2nd in a Clm15k. That was just a “freshening” as far as I am concerned. Now, it is time to get down to some real running. I do not think this spot came up particularly tough, and expect jockey Freddy Manrrique to be able to break well from that outside post. This son of Dialed In should have no trouble steering clear of traffic. If we get 3/1 at post time, then consider that a deal. Bet Gustafson; he is a conditioner with some nice stock.

          Wagering Recommendation: $100 Win, #6

Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 8: Cha Cha Mission #4, 6/1):

Trainer Shawn Davis has a pair of wins during this SHRP Meet, but he is looking for more. I don’t see why this filly by Noble Mission (GB) cannot come to H-Town and score. This one is 1st off-the-claim, and shipping in from Tampa. Not only does she have a sire and dam that are strong when it comes to running on the turf, but she should be able to make the jump from MC into MSW Co. Jockey Jose Alvarez gets the call, and given the right set-up, he should be able to work out a trip. Maybe he can get new owner George Sharp, a victory right from the word “go.”

          Wagering Recommendation: $100 Bankroll, Graduated Wager WPS #4 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)

Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 7: Dirt, 1 Mile, ALLW37kn2L, 3+):

On the Sam MT, a course that is quite forgiving when it comes to horses running back, we have a 2-turn extravaganza that looks pretty inviting. For 3-yr-olds that have never won a pair of races, I am looking for a “key” horse that is peaking at the right time. That nod goes to trainer Bret Calhoun’s Intimidation #3, who he also co-owns with his wife, Sara. This gelding by Curlin has the ability to stretch out, and has exhibited such versatility in the past. The last time he ran @SHRP, it was at this level, going 6F … the result was a miss, but only by a head. Jockey Richard Eramia is astute, and will not let that happen again. When it comes to rounding out a Superfecta ticket, I also like the look of 3 others, HB Johnson’s Moro Tap #2, John Ortiz’s Silent Disco #4, and finally, Steve Asmussen’s Caerus #5. Johnson should have his charge in much better condition this time around, and I like the addition of Iram Diego. If you are not familiar with Ortiz, you have been living under a rock. His Oaklawn Stable is red-hot right now, and this shipper could be very dangerous. And of course, last but not least, Asmussen’s entry is coming in from Turfway after being done early in a tough ALLW63k contest. Also by Curlin, the colt should find this company to be more to his liking. Let’s take Calhoun’s runner, and roll the others underneath. This has the makings for a massive score … let’s go racing Sam fans!

          Wagering Recommendation: $2 Superfecta Wheel, 3 w 2/4/5 w 2/4/5 w 2/4/5

Top Horse Racing Picks for Wednesday, February 23, 2022
By J.W. Paine in Horse Racing

I visited Gulfstream Park, Mahoning Valley Race Course, and Sam Houston Race Park for my Wednesday horseracing picks, and I have to admit I found myself agreeing with the morning line far more than I like.

That didn’t stop me from picking an 8/1 sleeper at Gulfstream, of course, and a couple of underdog moneymakers at Sam Houston, as well.

Remember to review all the Wednesday races at all three tracks at one of our best horseracing wagering sites.

            Good luck!
            Wednesday Picks for Gulfstream Park

Let’s start on the turf course with race five, a five-furlong allowance optional claiming race for three-year-olds. I’m buying a win ticket on the 8/1 sleeper, Bueno Bueno, ridden by veteran jockey Junior Alvarado.

This colt finished in the money three of his five career starts, winning two. Also, he’s posted consistently superior speed figures in his brief career. He’ll do.

Newcomer Jack Sisterson trains Bueno Bueno for Calumet Farm.

We switch to the all-weather track for race six, a five-furlong starter optional claiming race for three-year-old fillies. I agree with the morning line, so my bet’s on the 5/2 favorite, Wow Tapit, with Hector Isaac Berrios in the irons.

This filly moneyed three of her five career starts, winning two, including her second maiden attempt in September and a claiming race in December.

Newcomer Amador Merei Sanchez trains Wow Tapit for Super Super Stable. Sanchez has tapped Berrios to saddle Wow Tapit for all five of her pro races.

We move to the dirt track for race seven, a one-mile allowance optional claiming race for Florida-bred fillies and mares four years old and upward. I like the second-favored (at 7/2) Beth’s Dream, with Jose L. Ortiz aboard.

This filly finished one of her three career starts in the money, breaking her maiden in December here at Gulfstream, at which time she hadn’t raced in 14 months.
Not to put too fine a point on it, but Beth’s Dream is a different, better horse than she was in 2020—she posted much higher speed figures (96) in her December win, for instance.

Victor Barboza, Jr. trains Beth’s Dream for owners James E. and Virginia Gamble.
My Wednesday Picks for Mahoning Valley Race Course

We’ll begin on the dirt track with race one, a one-mile starter allowance race for fillies and mares three years old and upward. This is Wednesday’s no-brainer pick: 6/5 morning-line favorite Little Matilda, piloted by newcomer Brandon Tapara.

This six-year-old mare finished 28 of her 43 career starts in the money, winning 16. Even better: Little Matilda won five of her last seven races. Versus the rest of this six-horse field, she’ll do just fine.
Incidentally, jockey Tapara has been in the irons for Little Matilda’s last 15 races (ten wins). Did I say no-brainer? I believe I did.

With nearly three decades in the business, Danny R. Bird trains Little Matilda for Strike Plate LLC.

Race four is a one-mile allowance run on the dirt track for three-year-olds and upward that have never won two races. It’s hard to find anything worth the wager in this lackluster field of eight, but I’m going to say that the horse least likely to lose is the 2/1 morning-line favorite, Hang Tight, with veteran jockey Luis Raul Rivera aboard.

This three-year-old colt moneyed two of his five career starts, winning one, his graduation victory at Mountaineer in mid-December. He also finished second in his next race, an allowance run here at Mahoning Valley in late December.

Yeah, Hang Tight doesn’t look all that promising—until you look at the other seven horses in this race.

Longtime horseracing veteran Shane Meyers trains Hang Tight for Keys to Riches Stable, LLC.

Race six is a six-furlong allowance optional claiming race for fillies and mares three years old and upward. This one’s not quite the no-brainer race one was, but it’s pretty darned close: Bet the 5/2 morning-line favorite, Pulpit’s Purrfect, ridden by Luis Raul Rivera.

This six-year-old mare finished in the money 24 of her 27 career starts, winning eight. More pertinently, she hasn’t finished worse than second since June 2021—nine races (eight places, one win).

Pulpit’s Purrfect is owner-trainer Khadeem Galloway’s biggest earner.
Wednesday’s Picks for Sam Houston Race Park

Let’s start on the dirt track with race two, a 6-1/2 furlong claiming run for four-year-olds and upward that have never won two races. I’m going with the 3/1 second-favored entry here: Gushing Oil, with Freddy Jose Manrrique aboard.

This four-year-old gelding moneyed two of his four career starts, winning one—his initial maiden attempt back in October 2020. He performed poorly in his next two 2020 races—the Clever Trevor Stakes (Black Type) and the Remington Springboard Mile Stakes (Listed). And he wasn’t raced again until this year, when he finished second in a claiming race here at Sam Houston.
Still, Gushing Oil’s lack of history is far less discouraging than that of Carpe Eros, the 8/5 favorite, who took a year and a half (ten races) to graduate the maiden class. So, Gushing Oil gets my vote.

Ranked among the top 100 in 2021 wins and earnings, Austin Gustafson trains Gushing Oil for JKX Racing.

We move to the turf course for race four, a one-mile starter optional claiming run for fillies and mares four years old and upward.

If Ry Eikleberry rides the third-favored also-eligible (MTO ) into the starting gate, bet them to win. Trained by Karl Broberg for End Zone Athletics, Inc., this five-year-old mare moneyed 11 of her 22 career starts, winning eight.

If that doesn’t happen, back the 2/5 morning-line favorite, Quinn Ella, ridden by Ernesto Valdez-Jiminez.

This five-year-old mare finished in the money 22 of her 31 career starts, winning eight. Most notably, she finished second in the Jersey Lilly Turf Stakes (Black Type) here at Sam Houston in January.

Twenty-year horseracing veteran Ronnie E. Cravens, III trains Quinn Ella for L and G Racing Stables.

We’re back on the dirt track for race seven, a one-mile allowance run for three-year-olds and upward that have never won two races. I’m betting my two dollars on the fourth-favored (at 6/1) Lucky’s Special, with Weston Hamilton in the irons.

A real standout in an inexperienced field of nine, this three-year-old gelding moneyed both of his career starts, winning his initial maiden attempt in early January, then finishing second in an allowance race later that same month.

Michael R. Whitelaw trains Lucky’s Special for owner-breeder Victoria Lynn Heine.

              (Wednesday, February 23, 2022)

Race 1: #4 Champion Pal, #5 Victorious Seeker, #7 Legion Of Merit, #9 Asian One
              Race 2: #3 Meaningful Star, #5 A La King, #8 Dr Winning, #2 Transcendent
Race 3: #10 Sparky Star, #7 Eevee, #5 Super Red Dragon, #11 Ernest Feeling
Race 4: #2 Wine And Wine, #4 Bingo Bingo, #6 Mega Bonus, #7 Touch Faith
Race 5: #1 Scotch Tycoon, #7 See U Again, #3 Savvy Delight, #9 Pretty Queen Prawn
              Race 6: #1 Harmony Fire, #6 Lightning Storm, #10 Awesome Treasure, #2 Special M
Race 7: #1 Astrologer, #2 Rewarding Together, #3 Jolly Good Heart, #5 Armour Eagle
Race 8: #2 Cheerful Days, #3 Beauty Joy, #8 Tsar, #6 Sunny Star
Race 9: #1 Sight Success, #3 Voyage Warrior, #5 We The South, #7 Carroll Street

              Race 1: Yuk Sau Handicap

#4 Champion Pal is competitive over this course and distance. He draws favourably with Zac Purton engaged. Strong booking with the Australian engaged and stepping away from the inside gate should give him every chance. #5 Victorious Seeker falls into a similar category. Trainer Paul O’Sullivan could easily collect a one-two finish here. #7 Legion Of Merit is a threat. He won well two starts ago and deserves respect here. #9 Asian One is progressing. He’s improved with each rise in distance and should be a factor under the light weight.

              Race 2: Tsui Man Handicap

#3 Meaningful Star doesn’t know how to run a bad race. He pairs favourably with Zac Purton – who on Sunday – collected a win in tandem with trainer Francis Lui. The draw only enhances his chances. #5 A La King is chasing back-to-back wins. He’s a threat in his spot. #8 Dr Winning is showing steady signs of further improvement. He won well last start, enough so to suggest that another was a possibility. #2 Transcendent mixes his form but does have a bit of class on his day. Don’t discount him up in grade.

              Race 3: Yik Yam Handicap

#10 Sparky Star has taken time but looks close to a first win in Hong Kong. He turned in a career-best outing last start for second and looks well placed to improve on that effort here. Strong booking of Jerry Chau commands respect. #7 Eevee is mixing his form but is another who steps out off the back of a career-best effort. Strong chance from gate three. #5 Super Red Dragon has returned to a competitive mark. He’s favoured from gate one. #11 Ernest Feeling gets a handy pull in weight. He has the ability. Don’t discount.

              Race 4: Wang Tak Handicap

#2 Wine And Wine steps back to Class 4. He’s favoured in this grade and from gate one he’s the likely leader of this contest. He could prove difficult to reel in. #4 Bingo Bingo is after back-to-back wins. His ascent up the handicap looks far from over after his latest effort. #6 Mega Bonus has found his groove. Expect Zac Purton tries to offset the draw by pushing forward. He’ll look the winner at some stage. #7 Touch Faith is next best. Don’t discount for the in-form Antoine Hamelin.

              Race 5: Village Handicap

#1 Scotch Tycoon won well two starts ago. It wouldn’t surprise to see him recapture that form here for Zac Purton and Francis Lui. He can atone for a luckless run last time out. #7 See U Again looks like he has his fair share of ability. He was fair on debut but looks well placed to improve off that effort here. #3 Savvy Delight has claims. John Size’s stable is firing at the minute, and he looks capable of a first win very, very soon. #9 Pretty Queen Prawn is next best.

              Race 6: King Kwong Handicap

#1 Harmony Fire has been without luck this season. Still, he has a bit of class and gate one gives him his chance here to score an overdue fourth career-win. #6 Lightning Storm is a two-time winner from three runs in Hong Kong. He’s on the rise and he should get the run of the race here. #10 Awesome Treasure should roll to the front in attempt to offset the sticky draw. Don’t discount. #2 Special M doesn’t know how to run poorly. This race should be no exception.

              Race 7: Sing Woo Handicap

#1 Astrologer is doing plenty right as a two-time winner already in Hong Kong. Douglas Whyte captured another Group 1 on Sunday, and his red-hot form looks set to continue at the Valley. #2 Rewarding Together is after a hat-trick of wins. He remains in Class 3 which enhances his chances. #3 Jolly Good Heart should cross and try to find the front. Expect he’ll look the winner for a long way. #5 Armour Eagle is lightly raced but on the steady improve. He commands respect with Zac Purton aboard.

              Race 8: Shan Kwong Handicap

#2 Cheerful Days has enjoyed a rapid ascent to stardom this season as a five-time winner from his last six starts. Trainer Francis Lui indicated the owner’s bonus at Happy Valley was his goal and his inclusion here indicates that they’re really going for it. Expect a big finish as usual from him. #3 Beauty Joy should find the front. He’ll run them along here. #8 Tsar has claims with no weight on his back. #6 Sunny Star is competitive in his spot. He draws ideally as one of three in the race for Francis Lui.

              Race 9: Blue Pool Handicap

#1 Sight Success doesn’t know how to run a bad race. He’s a classy little sprinter for John Size who can collect another win here. #3 Voyage Warrior has returned to a competitive mark. He finished second in a hot race last start which holds him in good stead, as does his pairing with Zac Purton. #5 We The South should find the front and be there for a while. He draws favourably. #7 Carroll Street is favoured with the light weight. Don’t discount here as Douglas Whyte saddles a strong team after a big weekend at Sha Tin.

There are at least nine racecourses available for wagering on the thoroughbred circuit for Wednesday. The most notable track on the card has to be Gulfstream Park in Florida.

                Industry Leading 9% Cashback!

This is a day for the small and mid-tier tracks. There aren’t any stakes races, but hopefully winning horses regardless.

The next big race on the schedule is the $1,000,000 Rebel Stakes (Gr. 1) on Saturday at Oaklawn Park. For the second time in two weeks, we have a race with the winner getting 50 points on the Road to the Kentucky Derby.

Our first look on Wednesday afternoon is at Tampa Bay Downs. Tampa Bay has nine races worth $185,000 on the card. Head below for our best Tampa Bay Downs picks on February 23, 2022.

The first race at Tampa Bay Downs covers 6 ½ furlongs on the dirt for a $14,500 purse. Tee Up and Kenai Cool have to be considered on these terms.

Tee Up is 4 for 46 in her career, with a big chance to get home on Wednesday afternoon. In her last four outings, Tee Up finished 3rd, 4th, 5th, 3rd.

She showed 3rd on January 29 for a $13,500 purse. This was after finishing 5th on December 29 for a $13,000 purse.

Kenai Cool is 5 for 51 in her career, finishing 4th, 2nd, 2nd in her last three assignments. In her most recent race, Kenai Cool placed 2nd behind My Blonde Mary for a $13,500 purse by 2 lengths.

She placed 2nd behind U Know I B Lion by 3 ¼ lengths on January 9 before her most recent entry on February 9. This doesn’t look like the toughest test and should play to her strengths.

                Distance: 5 ½ Furlongs
                Purse:$29,000

The fourth race at Tampa Bay Downs is a 5 ½ furlong assignment for a $29,000 purse. Keep an eye on Kingswood and S. Muffin to do well here with a nice opportunity to score.
Kingswood is making his debut on Wednesday and has been in sharp form in workouts. He was clocked at 50.40 seconds at 4 furlongs on February 1, though his most recent attempt could have been cleaner.

Kingswood was timed at 1:03.00 at 5 furlongs on February 13. That could have been better. S. Muffin should have a chance versus this field.

                S. Muffin is winless in two races, but should be involved. As a rookie, he placed 2nd behind Wason by a nose for a $46,000 purse.

That was a progressive performance, though S. Muffin failed to handle a $60,000 race on February 4. He finished 6th and looked like a class drop would help.

The $190,000 colt is back on the track, this time on easier terms at $29,000 across 5 ½ furlongs. Give S. Muffin strong considerations to win Race 4.

                Distance:6 Furlongs
                Purse:$18,000

Eight horses are expected to run 6 furlongs on the dirt for an $18,000 purse. Ace Destroyer and Loud N Proud should get into it in the stretch.

Ace Destroyer is 8 for 30 and he’s been running well recently. He’s finished 1st, 4th, 1st, 1st in his last four with a hat-trick in mind.

In his most recent race, Ace Destroyer beat Nick the Cardshark by 1 ¼ lengths in a $16,000 event on January 29. He was a $17,500 winner by 1 length on December 11.

Loud N Proud has been a consistent force as well. He’s in the top-3 in seven straight outings, finishing 1st, 1st, 3rd, 1st in his previous four.

Loud N Proud is coming off a 1 ¼ length win for $18,000 on February 6. It was a nice bounce-back for Loud N Proud after showing 3rd on December 11.

From the inside rail, Loud N Proud is going to put together a winnable bid. Ace Destroyer will pressure, but expect Loud N Proud to get it this time.

Rocket Picks : Gulfstream Park and Tampa Bay Downs for February 23, 2022
                  By: Aaron Halterman

It’s a new week of action! For the free pick 4, we will head to Gulfstream Park today, which has another good Wednesday card. We will also be covering Tampa Bay Downs today for the paid Rockets, so be sure to check those out. Let’s kick off the week in a good way!

Below is our free Late Pick 4 for Gulfstream Park:

                  Gulfstream Park February 23, 2022

                  Race 5: Allowance Optional Claiming

#2 Brits Candyman won in his turf debut last time out, and should be tough again today, as he tries to take the field gate to wire. #3 Classicstateofmind was second at this level last time out after breaking her maiden nicely two starts back.

                  Race 6: Starter Optional Claiming

#5 Wow Tapit has won two of three starts over this surface, but will move up in class today, which is a question mark. #4 Princess Cupid runs first off of the claim for Preciado today, with Irad Ortiz Jr. jumping aboard, which is a good sign.

                  Race 7: Allowance Optional Claiming

#1 Freak stretches out in distance today, which should help her chances, as her pedigree suggests she will like the stretch out. #5 Celestial Cheetah was second at this level off of a long layoff last time out, and should improve today with Ortiz Jr. aboard.

                  Race 8: Claiming

#4 Systematic drops down in class just a bit for this race after running second at a higher level last time out. #3 Winter Princess runs off of a long layoff today, but is taking a class drop, while getting Ortiz Jr. up for the ride.

Free Selections – Wednesday – Turfway Park

Heavy rains in the low 50s in the Northern Kentucky region should have the Tapeta surface tightened up and ready to produce some faster racing at the Florence oval on Wednesday evening.

                      Turfway Park

Race#1 – #8 – Ola Que Tal = Hails from the hot barn of Paulo Lobo who is of Kentucky Oaks and Breeders’ Cup winning fame with Luan Machado in the irons. Been off for two months and is shooting for three straight coming off the break. Machado has two wins in the past and knows Lobo’s runner well. He ships in from Mountaineer and the barn wins 24% and 52% ITM on this move.

Race#2 – #6 – Wamego = Ian Wilkes trainee with his son-in-law Chris Landeros in the irons. 3rd start off the layoff and takes a big plunge down the class ladder. The barn wins 18% 3rd off and the drop in class should have him right in the mix.

Race#5 – #1 – Giant Nova = 2nd time off the layoff for Eric Reed and sports a bullet work for his go-to rider Sonny Leon. He made a big run last out finishing a tough second and gets 2nd time Lasix today. Look for a sharp effort today. – Best play on the card.

Race#6 – #2 – Common Bond = Eric Reed trainee who made a big late run going 10f. Sonny Leon stays aboard and has two bullet works over Reed’s Mercury Training Center surface. Been off for two months and the barn wins 19% with layoff runners.

Race#8 – #1 – Strikes Back = 2nd start and gets Lasix and blinkers this start. Drops in class and draws the rail under Rafael Bejarano who has the call for Mike McCarthy. Dangerous connections.

                          Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

                          Parx Racing - Race #1
                          Picks Notes
#1 Victory Is Ours He might be quick enough to go from the fence in a race without a ton of serious early pace, and maybe he shakes free while most of the field chases him and fades. Chance here.
#5 E T's Super Star He has already had 11 chances, but he has some claim on this in a race that might end up going to whoever is stopping the least late. He occasionally passes some horses and seems good for a share here.
#2 Stella's Tour He'll try this level for the first time, but he's bringing really dull recent form to the table. He owns a couple of runs that might make him tough with these, but I worry the price won't accurately reflect his chances of landing this.
Race Summary Victory Is Ours doesn't meet a lot of other pace, and he should offer a better price than a couple other potential forward players. Rail draw might force him to hustle and try to command this race from the start.

                          Parx Racing - Race #5
                          Picks Notes
#3 Crabs N Beer He has a little bit of versatility and should be able to keep the leaders in his sights, but I really like that he has been in with better and owns some ability to relax and finish into the splits. Finds the run of the race?
#2 Jokemeister I worry that he'll take some heat from pace drawn further outside, but his last two have been pretty solid, and he looks most likely to flash some speed and stick around late.
#5 Always Drinking Really not much appeal in here for me outside of the top pair, but this one is a decent fit here and might work out a decent trip while spying the speed. Wouldn't be a big surprise.
Race Summary There might be just enough pace lined up in here to set things up for a late runner, and Crabs N Beer has the kind of running style to take advantage. He doesn't have to get outrun early, and he has run okay from off the splits before.

                          Parx Racing - Race #8
                          Picks Notes
#4 Dont Break the Law At least a little interesting that they're getting him back around two turns after an improved effort when cutting back last time out. His only route try was the only bad try of his career, but he's intriguing enough to give another look at what might be a decent price.
#5 Mr. Tuttle Speed has a big claim on this, but I wonder if the riser from the rail might flash enough pace to at least make things a bit difficult for this guy up top. Obvious danger, but he doesn't usually offer a whole lot of resistance when he's challenged late.
#8 We Be There He has struggled since stepping up to face winners, but he might get a pretty decent trip while stretching back around two turns. Price player might be useful in the gimmicks today.
Race Summary Dont Break the Law needs far better than he produced in his only route try, but there is enough pedigree to get him through this trip, and I'm willing to give him another chance to show something better going long today.

                            The Meadows - Race #10
                            Picks Notes
#8 CASH N CHIPS Had run, lacked room in well-bet return, good price play.
#1 PETE STAMAS Brushed to stretch lead, held third, starts from rail.
#9 KILLER INSTINCT Winning machine must overcome post 9.
Race Summary Cash N Chips took money off the layoff, inched closer on the final turn while 3-deep on the rail, then lacked room until the closing yards. She remains high risk with a breaking habit but could prove best with a clean run. Play 8-1 and 8-9 exactas.

                            Yonkers - Race #1
                            Picks Notes
#4 DRAZZMATAZZ Drops, draws better post, should work out better trip than latest.
#6 J A T O Lived up to favoritism off 3-month layoff, can maximize speed in here.
#3 PAPPY GO GO Failed at 1-to-5 odds in repeat attempt.
Race Summary Drazzmatazz waited on live backstretch cover that never developed, then finished willingly while 4-wide in the stretch. The class drop could be the answer for the classy 9-year-old. Bet on him to win and place.

                            Rosecroft - Race #2
                            Picks Notes
#1 COUGAR HALL Overtaken by odds-on fave, can make good use of his speed in here.
#5 P L HOOFHEARTED Discount comeback try from post 8, expect a rally tonight.
#4 MT ADAMS Even-paced in last three starts at Freehold to remain winless since 2020.
Race Summary Cougar Hall missed a week sick but a duplicate of his prior race makes him the one to beat. He made a middle to the lead before the odds-on favorite passed by and can use his speed well in this spot from the rail. Play a 1/4,5/ALL trifecta.

                              Gulfstream Park - Race #4
                              Picks Notes
#6 Not So Easy Could not keep up with fast fractions last out and can be much closer to the easy action; was a winner two back and can flash back to that effort.
#7 Undefiled Was a winner at Woodbine in his last two of 2021 and comes back in a spot in which he should do well.
#8 Exponential Was a clear winner at a higher price two back and can be tough on the class drop.
Race Summary Not So Easy is toughest when he's in route races that have moderate fractions and he normally digs in under those circumstances.

                              Gulfstream Park - Race #5
                              Picks Notes
#4 Tops the Chart Didn't break well and came rolling for third vs. similar; can be in closer attendance and will be tough to beat if he can finish with some pop like last time.
#3 Classicstateofmind Was third last out in his first off the claim by D'Angelo; Irad Ortiz Jr. picks up the mount and can have him battling for the lead.
#10 American Starlet Was a clear winner in her only start, which came against colts and geldings just like today; can press throughout and would not be a surprise.
Race Summary Tops the Chart showed a new game last out as he was out of it early and came on late; a stalking position would probably make him very difficult to beat.

                              Gulfstream Park - Race #7
                              Picks Notes
#5 Celestial Cheetah Closed with a rush and just missed last out; can be in a good position and likely will respond when asked for her best.
#2 Battle Cry Finished full of run and won going away last out; running very well and will be heard from today.
#7 Tiz Enough Ran an even fourth last out and gets to stretch out a little more today; late threat at a good price.
Race Summary Celestial Cheetah finished well last out and has a good chance to carve out a perfect trip; serious player.
