(1) Mo’s Treasure could be a threat from the rail if he breaks cleanly. (7) Insanity It Seems is another firster from Ward who cannot be ignored. (6) Rol Again Dancer has Saez and could be a threat. Betting strategy: 4 to win, place. Exacta box: 1-4-6-7. Doubles: 1-4-6-7 with 1-3-6-9.
2nd race – (1) Beachfront Bid (A) was third in all three of her starts but was a very promising runner-up last time as she grabbed second despite rallying 5 wide. Can work out a winning trip from the rail. (6) Myriskyaffair was a distant second on Tapeta and should like turf. (3) Curiously might appreciate the added distance. 2^nd race [Alw 82000 N1X, 1 /16 mi TURF] – (9) Microphone has run twice in his career and that was as a 4-year-old for Chad Brown. He won a first asking at Tampa in January and then was second at Gulfstream Park in an allowance. (6) Easter will make his American debut after racing in France. He has been off since September and is listed as new gelding and with first-time Lasix for Graham Motion. (10) Lonesome Fugitive is also from the Chad Brown barn. He won early in his career and has been seeking the allowance victory with three seconds. (1) Conquer the World was a $1.5 million purchase who won for the first time in his second start for Todd Pletcher and has since had one try in an allowance.
6^th race [Md Sp Wt, 1 mi TURF] – (9) Expand the Map was second in her debut at Saratoga last summer at .55-1 for Chad Brown and comes back with Lasix for the first time. (12) Star of India made her first start for Brown in January on the Tapeta at Gulfstream, had the lead in the stretch, and lost by a head. (5) Pruning returns from a December layoff for Shug McGaughey after running third three times in five starts. (1) Libretto will make her debut for Jorge Abreu who has a good record with first-time starters especially on the grass.
7^th race [OC 80k/N1X, 1 mi] – (1) Unbridled Bomber (B) made two starts on the Kentucky Derby trail and finished 10^th in the Withers (G3) but on that day he rushed up on the inside on a day that the rail was not the place to be. (3) Electability switched from turf to dirt following a seven-month layoff and broke his maiden at Aqueduct for Chad Brown. (5) Hagler gets Lasix for the first time as he drops out of a pair of stakes races. He won twice last year towards the end of the year for Rudy Rodriguez. (7) Good Skate won his last two starts in a maiden claimer and a starter allowance.
8^th race [NY, OC 45k/N2X, 1 mi] – (6) Khali Magic (C) won both of his restricted claiming conditions and then returned to NY-bred competition where she ran second and third. Last time she was bet down from 3-1 to be 9-5 favorite. (5) Pay Grade returns from an October layoff for Christophe Clement with races last year that make her a serious contender in this field. (4) Mashnee Girl looks best on a fast, dry, dirt course where she won twice for Mark Hennig. (7) Ifihadachance has two improved efforts following a five-month layoff in similar spots at Aqueduct.

This isn’t a terribly inventive pick, but let’s face it, this Wachtel Stable filly, trained by Chris Englehart, is going in the right direction. She is making her 4th start of the year, and the company is spot on. Her trainer has watched her progression steadily, and she was the favorite back on 13 March. Maybe she just didn’t have enough in the tank to compete with Wasp, but that should change. Jockey Dylan Davis takes over for his brother-in-law, Trevor McCarthy, and we will see if he can get this one home. I like this 4-yr-old’s talent, and breeding … Al Khali.

Wagering Recommendation: $100 Win, #6



Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 5: Auburn Hills #4, 4/1):

Just off-the-claim, I like the look of this gelding by Palace Malice because Michelle Giangiulio has had time since late February to make some adjustments. Sometimes a barn switch is just what a runner needs. Ten Strike Racing is a part of this investment group, and with Jose Gomez in the irons, I think this 5-yr-old is ready to fire. The 1-mile distance should not be an issue whatsoever. A change of scenery is a deal … plus, any runner from Mike Maker’s midst deserves respect.

Wagering Recommendation: $100 Bankroll, Graduated Wager WPS #4 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)



Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 7: Dirt, 1 Mile, OC80kn1x, 3):

Since we are not sure about the weather over the next 24-hrs, it is probably best to assume that the AQU Turf Course’s ’22 debut will be on hold … at least for another day. This race serves as a nice dirt option … reasonable, well-matched field. I can already take an educated guess and surmise with a fair amount of certainty that Chad Brown’s Electability #3 will be the race time favorite. This trainer’s “numbers” are just incredibly tough to match. A high-priced son of Quality Road ($300k, KEE Nov ’19 Sale), he broke his maiden with Eric Cancel aboard on 5 March against MSW80k Co. Klaravich Stables always takes money, but there are some other viable options here too. I am pretty interested in seeing how the Ryerson Barn’s Unbridled Bomber #1 responds after running 10th in the Withers S. (G3) in early February. That contest has produced some powerful 3-yr-olds, to say the least … Early Voting, Un Ojo, and Gilded Age … I would expect the dropdown to this level would be appreciated, as Jose Lezcano takes the reins. One other entry that I think has a major opportunity is one-half of Rudy Rodriguez’s uncoupled entry … Good Skate #7. The folks at the Black Sheep Squadron Racing Stable are ready to launch, and rightly so … this gelding by American Freedom was stout on 25 Feb. when he rolled down the lane, and won going away. Building on that effort, Trevor McCarthy will try to duplicate Lezcano’s performance (and his own from 27 Jan.). If he can, it will spell a 3rd win in-a-row for the “Squadron.” Let’s use all 3 of these … going after what looks like a reasonable Trifecta Box!

This tasty contest for 3-yr-olds that couldn’t make it into the BGS (G2) on Saturday, pits a solid group of 12 against one another. Based on the M/L, it is fitting that Todd Pletcher’s My Prankster #8 gets the nod. The last time this colt was @KEE, the highly-priced son of Into Mischief was 2nd in the slop to Wesley Ward’s Nakatomi . That was in a $150k “Non-G,” and Pletcher used it as a jumping off point to move to his winter base at Gulfstream Park. The Stonestreet bred wasn’t $600k for nothing … he promptly won both of his attempts (OC75kn1x/Swale G3). After 2 months off, he returns ready for action … regular rider Luis Saez takes the controls once again. I think he is a clear “Single,” especially if you think he can can reinvade from GP … I like Chad Brown’s Money Supply #2, as an alternative, but I question whether this “KS” runner can make the leap into such a challenging race. Looking for a “shot” that could surprise, I would not sleep on Steve Asmussen’s All in Sync #5. The Orrs own this colt by Maclean’s Music (OBS Spring ’21 $310k), and he just won an OC62.5kn2L at Oaklawn on 11 Feb. by a whisker. That might concern some, but if you watch the replay, you will see that traffic troubles forced Joel Rosario to switch tactics. That kind of “character build” could work wonders, especially considering that he already has 4 starts under his saddle. Rosario once took Keeneland by storm, and he always finds a way to rise to the occasion in the land of the green. I am an advocate of going 2-Deep … moving right along …

LEG 2: (Race 8: Turf, 1 1/16th, KU Transylvania S. (G3), 3)

Switching to the Haggin Turf Course, luckily for racing fans Keeneland has some of the best drainage systems in the world. They revamped things awhile back, and it really improved the “going” when rain blitzed the area. I am not exactly sure whether we are looking at “Yielding” ground, but I would be prepared to handicap that way. The “Transy” is typically a tough race, run under difficult conditions … it’s the Bluegrass in April, after all … It can be bright and sunny or gloomy with snow showers … Out of these 6 that are entered, I am pretty keen to back Mark Casse’s uncoupled entry … Coinage #5 will be the shorter price at 3/1 or lower, based on his late-running performance in the Palm Beach S. $125k at Gulfstream Park back in early March. Luis Saez was aboard then, and will be again … I wouldn’t sleep on Credibility #1, though … A Nyquist colt, even though he didn’t run well in that same race as his stablemate, if this KEE contest is taken off-the-turf, he does have experience on dirt. Florent Geroux returns to Keeneland after a great run at Oaklawn, and is always dangerous. I am willing to go deeper in this well-matched race, and including the rest of the field, which I think makes good sense. Chad Brown’s Napoleonic War #2 and Verbal #6 are well-bred, and have the late turn-of-foot to get the job done. We also have members entered here from Todd Pletcher’s outfit, and Graham Motion’s, so with most of the turf titans assembled … let’s go with them all! Time to head to the 2nd Half of this ticket!

LEG 3: (Race 9: Dirt, 1 1/16th, Central Bank Ashland S. (G1), 3F)

One of my all-time picks was in the Ashland S. when Eddie Kenneally’s Bushfire went wire-to-wire at odds of 15/1. A handsome payout for a $2 wager … $32.20 … I am not sure if we have one of those kinds of shots in this spot, but it is Keeneland, so you have to be prepared to tote watch … Despite the weather that might roll through Central KY, quite a bit of chatter in the air will be consumed by those that back Todd Pletcher’s Nest #4 (powerhouse ownership group of Repole/Eclipse), and Wesley Ward’s ace, Happy Soul #6. With a trip to the KYOaks on the line, there is quite a bit at stake. Of course, this pair are deserved when it comes to water cooler talk because they each have 3 wins in 4 starts. The former really impressed going away in the Suncoast $150k at Tampa in early Feb. Irad Ortiz will be aboard once again, and his aggressiveness is not to be underestimated. As for the latter, if you watched Ward’s speedster at Oaklawn in the Dixie Bell S. $150k, then you were probably impressed with her acceleration down the lane. When the only jock to ever ride your horse is John Velazquez, then you are doing pretty well … wouldn’t you say? This trainer-rider duo in the past at Keeneland have just torched the competition. A couple of other entries that look pretty interesting include Reddam Racing’s Awake At Midnyte #3. Trainer Doug O’Neill does not venture to Lexington all that often, but when he does, it is normally for a reason. His filly by … of course … Nyquist … is coming to Keeneland after 3 “Graded” efforts. The 3-yr-old really tried her best down that long stretch at the Fair Grounds last time in the G2 “Rachel,” and it was a good “Show” performance behind Turnerloose and Goddess of Fire. Regular man, Mario Gutierrez makes the trip east, and I think this one could be a pick that will get overlooked. I am having a hard time believing that she will be 4/1 come post time. It wouldn’t be a filly “G” race without trainer Brad Cox, and not to be left out, he sends Interstatedaydream #2 into the fray. The daughter of Classic Empire was impressive after a long break from running as a 2-yr-old at Saratoga. She steamrolled into Hot Springs, and won by a country mile in an OC80kn1x. I suppose her short price was warranted … Florent Geroux will be aboard once again, and he has the chance to take this Flurry Racing runner to the top of the charts. Cox already has Oaks “players” in Turnerloose, Bubble Rock, and Juju’s Map … will this be a 4th? I am inclined to take all of the aforementioned runners because they all have a legitimate shot to score. Let’s proceed, and hope we can whittle down a winner in the finale …

#8 My Prankster has been awesome for Pletcher this season and finds a spot that makes a lot of sense for him today. #12 Tejano Twist can always be counted on to show up with a solid effort when sprinting.

Race 8: Transylvania Stakes (G3)

#6 Verbal will look to make it three in a row after two impressive wins as a 2-year-old for Chad Brown. If he has developed since we’ve seen him last, he will be tough in this spot. #4 Grand Sonata has won two stakes races in a row, while fitting in nicely with this group.

Race 9: Ashland Stakes (G1)

#6 Happy Soul stretches out in distance today, which is a question mark, but there is no doubt she is the most talented filly in the race. #2 Interstatedaydream should be tough in this spot after a blowout allowance victory last time out.

Race 10: Allowance

#9 Bay Storm takes a drop in class for this one after taking on stakes company two races in a row. #2 Illegal Smile will look to make it two in a row after winning over this track and at this level last time out. Both of these horses should be in stakes races next time out.

Race 6: ELLE OF THE BALL posted a 71 Beyer in her last try on the dirt, two back, and that figure gives her strong credibility in this field. LUV DRAGON has decent works showing for her debut, and trainer Al Stall Jr. wins at a good rate with debut runners getting Lasix. CONSTITUTION GAL lost her two-turn test last time but she merits respect based on her last sprint try. INDIGO MISS prompted a quick pace yet held well enough late in a decent career bow. (Use 4 horses)

Race 7: MONEY SUPPLY was an impressive debut winner at Tampa Bay, closing nicely along the rail to beat a pair of next-out winners. Both of those runners posted Beyers in the 80s in their victories, verifying this colt's 91 Beyer, and while he goes longer and steps into stakes company in the Lafayette Stakes he figures tough with a slight step forward. (1)

Race 8: COINAGE may be the main speed in the Grade 3 Transylvania, which is otherwise light on obvious pace. He has a good shot to steal this if he can shake loose and back down the fractions under Luis Saez. GRAND SONATA beat Coinage in the Kitten's Joy after stalking that rival from the start and running him down late despite traffic trouble; should benefit from a forward trip once again. (2)

Race 9: NEST was an easy winner of the Suncoast Stakes at Tampa Bay as the odds-on favorite, earning a figure that could have been even better had she been asked. She is a strong fit in the Ashland if she can move forward in her second start off the layoff. STERLING SILVER was off the board when sent a mile last time out but a slow start cost her. She has lots of upside here with a clean getaway. HAPPY SOUL will take them as far as she can on the lead, as she is clearly the one to catch. Distance is a question but she does hold a pace edge. AWAKE AT MIDNYTE has tactical speed and may be the one who gets first run at Happy Soul (4).

Race 10: Not sure what went wrong for MAMBA WAMBA in the Lightning City Stakes at Tampa Bay but she deserves another shot, as she was impressive in her U.S. debut two back at Gulfstream Park. SPICY MARG has proven speed and will look to wire these for trainer Wesley Ward, who of course excels under these conditions. BEACHSIDE BUNNY lost her best chance in the Lightning City due to traffic issues but she was a game winner two back when against the race flow in her seasonal debut (3).

They also have a tougher game on deck tomorrow at Nashville so don't be surprised if any defensive intensity on the part of Florida is kept in reserve for that game tomorrow. Also, the Sabres are in a back to back spot after falling apart, as usual, in last night's 5-3 loss at Carolina. So the point is that both teams are in a scheduling spot that favors an over too.
