        Keeneland Hotlist - April 27

        April 27, 2022

Today’s Keeneland Hot List races to watch
        Wednesday, April 27, 2022

By Bob Ehalt and Matt Shifman
        Hot List Key:
A : A preferred horse to watch B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches in the final 3 minutes and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worse
        * - 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.
2nd race – (5) Federalist Papers (B) ran wide while finishing third on Tapeta. Figures to thrive back on turf. (6) Bella Conchita should be suited by the distance. (3) Good Measure could fit in nicely with this group. Betting strategy: 5 to win, place. Exacta box: 3-5-6.
4th race – (1) Chardy Party debuts for Ward and may not look back from the rail. (12) Devious could like turf and has a nice turn of speed from the outside post. (11) Doozy Batz is another Ward firster who deserves consideration. (7) Georgetown Road has an interesting turf pedigree. Betting strategy: 1 to win, place. Exacta box: 1-7-11-12 with 2-4-8-9. Doubles: 1-7-11-12 with 2-4-8-9. Pick 3: 1-7-11-12 with 2-4-8-9 with 5-9-10-11.
5th race – (2) Nosilverspoonshere debuts for Cox in a claimer and may prove best. (8) Darene put in a nice gate work for her career debut and can be a contender. (4) Nibbles is worth a look off the Hiles claim. (9) CoCo Puff should turn in a better try in a dirt claimer. Betting strategy: 2 to win, place. Exacta box: 2-4-8-9. Doubles: 2-4-8-9 with 5-9-10-11.
6th race – (9) Floriform was a solid third in a graded turf stakes at Tampa Bay and merits top billing here. (11) Point Me By has been freshened since February and seems ready for a strong effort in this field. (5) Skyro was a game second last time and cannot be ignored here. (10) Monition missed by a neck when second after a four-month break and can be formidable. Betting strategy: 9 to win, place. Exacta box: 5-9-10-11.
8th race – (4) Spare Cash was second in her last two starts and should transfer that sharp form from synthetics to turf. (9) Saffron Moon might perk up on turf. (7) Take Joy had useful comeback race and should be in better shape for this try. (5) American Pyramid could be tough to collar in this spot. Betting strategy: 4 to win, place. Exacta box: 4-5-7-9.
No. Letter/Last race Today’s race Comment
        (5) Federalist Papers B, 2/10 2 Kee Will welcome a return to turf

DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Wednesday, April 27, 2022
            DRF Staff

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

1:42 TAM 3rd BAROLA (#5, 5-1) makes his first start for trainer Matthew Kintz and that makes her a threat by default, as the barn wins at a strong 39% with new faces; first start off the layoff and now back at Tampa, and though she was off the board in her only try over this course she endured a tumultuous trip against better. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:14 TAM 4th PLUNK (#7, 5-1) was well off the board in his debut despite taking enough money to make him the 8/5 favorite but he had no chance in that sprint after a slow start left him well off the pace in a race that ultimately set up well for the pacesetters; now goes long in his second career start for a barn that does well with horses stretching out from sprints to routes. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:36 KEE 4th LEAVE IT BE (#10, 15-1) debuts with at least mildly encouraging workout times and with a win-early, turf-sprint pedigree. This is the first foal from a dam who won her second race and whose dam, Over the Edge, won her career debut, a sprint, with a 98 Beyer. Sire Street Boss is above average getting turf sprinters generally and I rate him higher than that with horses trying a turf sprint for the first time. -Marcus Hersh | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:46 TAM 5th MELINA'S DREAM (#5, 6-1) gets back on the turf for the first time since early January, and that effort suggests that this is his best surface, as the resulting Beyer fits very well he ran quite well in defeat, showing late foot to finish third; leading trainer Gerald Bennett's record with horses stretching out from sprints to routes is another plus. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:08 KEE 5th Casa de Goat's Saturday romp gave trainer Brad Cox four winners from his last five first-time starters at Keeneland. Not much to report on the pedigree front regarding the Cox-trained firster NOSILVERSPOONSHERE (#2, 5-1), but she has posted good workout times going three furlongs and five furlongs. -Marcus Hersh | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:22 TAM 8th MAGICAL ADVENTURE (#10, 4-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Kenny Peck). | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:44 KEE 8th UNDER ONE SKY (#1, 15-1) has enough natural ability that she was second in her career debut late last summer behind subsequent Jessamine Stakes winner California Angel. Things went south from there during the 2yo campaign but now comes a fresh start and first Lasix. Have to think she'll be well off the pace and there are any number of speed elements entered here. -Marcus Hersh | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

6:19 TUP 5th FOXY CARMELA (#10, 6-1) just didn't care for the turf or two turns in her most recent which is a bit surprising as turf breeding is solid. New barn is 26% off the claim. Connections are in the black with a win plus claim. Lopez gets a leg up and is 33% for team Evans. This mare likes this dirt but loves this distance and she draws best. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

6:48 TUP 6th FORTY FATHOMS (#3, 8-1) is the value. This race came up light on pace and we think this gelding can take advantage if connections try for the front end. Weight break helps front speed and this gelding draws fine. His most recent was a tad better you know. Second time this jock is another plus. -Scott Ehlers

Keeneland Picks: Last 3 days of the meet begins on April 27
                By J.N. Campbell

                Keeneland Picks - Wednesday, April 27, 2022

                Race 1: 1-5-3-2
                Race 2: 5-3-6-1
                Race 3: 2-4-1-3
                Race 4: 5-1-7-11
                Race 5: 3-9-1-2
                Race 6: 12-11-5-2
                Race 7: 5-3-1-5
                Race 8: 9-4-5-10
**Most Likely: Saffron Moon #9 (Race 8)**
**Best Value: Beautiful Farewell #3 (Race 5)**

Most Likely Winner: (Race 8: Saffron Moon #9, 5/1):

On the turf at Keeneland we have a good group of maiden fillies (3 and 4-yr-olds) that will be going up against one another around 2-turns. I want to play Chad Brown’s lay-off entry because he has exceptional numbers in spots like these. A daughter of Malibu Moon, she cut her teeth on the track at Saratoga and Belmont back in August-September-October … With more maturity to her credit, she should be ready to start her campaign. Brown is using this spot as a tune-up, with more to comes as the season develops. I am sure he has plans for her … With Flavien Prat aboard, I think she will be the one at the wire.

                Wagering Recommendation: $100 Win, #9

Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 5: Beautiful Farewell #3, 12/1):

The Turfway shippers to Central Kentucky get lost in the Keeneland shuffle. It might have to do with bettors' concerns about them sometimes making the switch from the Tapeta to the dirt. I like this one from Robert Medina’s stable because here is a filly by Frosted that is dropping out of MSW Co. She hasn’t run all that poorly for this barn, and this might be the spot to back her. Against this field, which includes some 1st time starters, she might be catching this group at the right time. Florent Geroux is a jockey upgrade to say the least, and if she can get close or on the lead, then she has a shot. Boxcar price on the tote at Keeneland? Yes, please …

                Wagering Recommendation: $100 Bankroll, Graduated Wager WPS #3 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)

                Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 6: Turf, 1 1/16th, ALLW120kn2x, 4+):

Taking to the Haggin Turf Course, it should be pretty firmed up after a weekend of no rain. I would advise checking the conditions and the placement of the temporary rail, which could be “out.” We shall see … Whatever comes our way, I am intrigued by this race because it has a good field of 12, plus a trio of AEs. I do not think that Eddie Kenneally’s Point Me By #11 is going to be anywhere near 6/1 come post time, because this barn is hot, and Luis Saez is piloting a colt by Point of Entry that is dropping out of the G3 Fair Grounds S. He is going to take money, and that will drive his price down. I am sure that Brian Lynch’s Skyro #5 is also worth a look not only because the gelding by Verrazano gets leading rider Tyler Gaffalione, but also because this is one of those Gulfstream invaders. The 4-yr-old comes in sharp when it comes to form, and if he gets a solid break from the gate, rating close to the frontend, then he has a major chance to win. I am going to take a shot against both of these entries, because I am a major fan of Mark Casse’s Palazzi #12. I saw this colt as a 3-yr-old get-up just in time to win the Texas Mile $200k at Sam Houston, and he has built some very nice class lines since. Even though he missed the board in his ’22 debut @FG in an OC40kn2x, this should be a great opportunity to bet a well-bred runner owned by John Oxley. Based on his latest work tab at Churchill, I think Casse had the choice of this race, or one under the Twin Spires on their new Matt Winn lawn. Opting for Keeneland tells me that he thinks he can grab a score. The addition of Florent Geroux is welcome, and I like the price at double-digit odds. Here is the bet …

                Wagering Recommendation: $2 Trifecta Wheel, 12 w 5/11 w 5/11

Australian thoroughbred Tab meeting is today held at Warwick Farm, Sale, Ipswich, Mt Gambier and Pinjarra Scarpside.

                  WARWICK FARM: RACE 2 @ 2:35 PM

A lot to learn here with many of these babies on debut. RINGMASTER (5) is at the races for the first time but looked very handy winning a recent Randwick trial and should be respected from a good barn for two-year-olds. SURREAL LEO (8) wasn't disgraced at Hawkesbury and can play a role with natural improvement. The well-related LUNA ROCKS (10) best of the rest.
                  SELECTIONS: Ringmaster to win.

As a FREE Racing and Sports offer, below is the Warwick Farm Computer Card.

                  SALE: RACE 6 @ 3:20 PM

ISLAND EDITION (2) has had plenty of chances now and has run well without winning since the maiden success. One win from nine but without a bad run in sight and this looks a lovely chance for him to get some reward for effort. Brings a string of ratings to the table that say he is good enough to take care of these. Respecting MT BULLER (5) off the dominant win at Ararat, for all that there might not have been a lot chasing him, and clearly HARANNDA (4) has a dangerous profile. Another to win last time out, back in Ireland, and she has jumped out in Australia as though she has settled in. MADDOX (7) just peaked on the run fresh. Fitter and has a hope.
SELECTIONS: Keen on Island Edition getting the elusive second win.

                  IPSWICH: RACE 7 @ 4:03 PM

DEVASTATING (4) has just been beaten both starts back and the on-pacer comes back plenty in grade. Has the speed to manage the awkward barrier and it's hard to risk the potent Maloney-Gollan linkage. FIRST PEOPLES (5) is a leader who was good at Beaumont (Newcastle) two back and will take running down. KARAOKE QUEEN (10) has been good both runs back and finds easier. Darws out but expect the longer sprint to suit. READY FOR ANYTHING (6) will be better for the firs-up run and Darws low with Thompson booked. In the mix.
                  SELECTIONS: Backing Devastating to win.

                  MT GAMBIER: RACE 6 @ 4:15 PM

NERRIVIK (8) didn't beat much of a field at Clare on debut but did it in style. She has the breeding to go further and should really win this race as well. RECREANT (3) was just as impressive as the top selection on debut when he came with a sustained burst to win going away. He is a five year old having his second career run so he has been given plenty of time to mature. This fellow has not finished winning yet. Watch closely. AMFISSA (1) has improved at each of her two runs this time in and should be even sharper third up, she drops in class for this assignment and is ready to show her best. Can win.
                  SELECTIONS: Nerrivik win bet.

                  PINJARRA SCARPSIDE: RACE 6 @ 3:35 PM

VITAL TIMES (10 has had three placings from six runs this prep. Only just missed last start when coming from eighth on the turn to finish a nose second over 1500m after making a slow start. If she can begin on level terms with her rivals today, she should be winning here. MONEY FOR MUSIC (7) finished two lengths off the winner for fourth when making his racing debut last start at Albany. Will strip a lot fitter today and has solid each-way claims. PRESIDENT SAM (3) has two placings from four runs this prep and ran on strongly from fifth on the turn here last start to finish second. Rates well on that last start performance and should be finishing in the top three. LET THEM ALL TALK (4) faded from second on the turn to finish fourth over 1600m here last time out in what was just his second raceday start. He will strip fitter today and should be finishing in the money.
                  SELECTIONS: Vital Times to win
