Care to guess the two top hitters in baseball? It's Manny Machado at .383 and Eric Hosmer at .367. The Braves are going to have to deal with both of them.
Atlanta has an excellent pitcher going with lefty Max Fried. But the Padres have a hot Yu Darvish to counter. So at this 'dog price, I'm going to get involved with the Padres.
Darvish can be streaky. Right now he's looking good having won his last three decisions. If you discount his second start against the Giants when he was smacked around for nine runs in 1 2/3 innings, Darvish would have a 1.71 ERA in five starts.
The Padres could catch a break if Ronald Acuna has to miss a second straight game. He's dealing with a groin injury.
A trend to keep in mind is San Diego has won the last seven times following a loss. They also are 4-0 the past four times facing a lefty starter.

Friday NBA Free play. My selection is on Boston plus the points over Milwaukee at 7:30 pm et on Friday.
This has been a 'zig-zag' series all the way with the two teams alternating wins through five games. With that in mind, I'm confident the Celtics can bounce back from a discouraging Game 5 defeat at home and force a seventh and deciding game in this series with a win on Friday in Milwaukee. Note that the Celtics are 36-20 ATS when coming off an outright loss as a favorite in their previous game over the last three seasons, outscoring opponents by 6.7 points on average in that situation. They're also 21-12 ATS off a loss this season, outscoring the opposition by an average margin of 6.8 points in that spot. While the Bucks have outscored opponents by 4.0 points on average at home this season, that margin of victory drops to 1.9 points when coming off a win, as is the case here - a situation in which they've gone a miserable 8-17 ATS. Milwaukee has made good on 40 or fewer field goals in all five games in this series, despite getting off 90+ attempts in four of those five contests. Here, I look for the Celtics to do a better job of limiting the Bucks' scoring opportunities, ultimately securing a victory with their backs against the wall. Take Boston.

This looks like a great spot to 'buy low' on the Boston Red Sox. They have lost six of their last seven to fall to 11-20 on the season and have arguably been the most disappointing team in baseball thus far. I expect them to get it turned around and soon, and not to blow so many late leads moving forward.
The Red Sox had yesterday off and will be the fresher team. The Rangers concluded a series with the Royals yesterday and won't be nearly as fresh. The Rangers are starting to get a lot of respect after going 7-3 in their last 10 games overall.
Nick Pivetta is 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA and 1.200 WHIP in his last three starts and has turned it around after a poor start. He'll be opposed by Dane Dunning, who is getting a lot of love after a surprisingly solid start to the season for him. Dunning went 5-10 with a 4.51 ERA and 1.436 WHIP last season, so his 2022 start has been an aberration.
Texas is 3-10 in its last 13 games as a favorite. The Rangers are 17-35 in their last 52 games following a win. Boston is 19-9 in the last 28 meetings. Bet the Red Sox Friday.

Friday's Free MLB Pick is on the Cleveland Guardians as a +148 road dog against the Minnesota Twins. This just feels like way too good a price to pass up on Cleveland. The Twins are in a major offensive funk. They are averaging a mere 2 runs/game over their last 7. So while the numbers aren't great for Guardians starter Aaron Civale, I think there's a decent chance he pitches well in this game. He's actually got a 5.02 FIP, which is drastically better than his 9.45 ERA. Twins starter Sonny Gray has a 3.48 ERA but a 4.77 FIP. I just don't see this being as lopsided a matchup as the line suggests. Bet the Guardians +148!

Cleveland began a new era in 2022 (no longer the Indians, now the Guardians). Cleveland lost to the Cubs in the 2016 World Series (led 3-1, before losing the final three games) and followed with THREE more postseason appearances in the next four years (exception was in 2019 when the team won 93 games). However, Cleveland would go just 80-82 in 2021. The Twins went just 73-89 in 2021 (20 games behind the division-winning White Sox), after winning the AL Central in 2019 and 2020. The teams open a three-game series in Minnesota with the 18-14 Twins sitting atop the AL Central, two games better than Cleveland and Chicago, which are both 15-15.


Cleveland saw its game Wednesday postponed because of a COVID outbreak in its coaching staff. As of Thursday, NO Cleveland players had tested positive for COVID. The Guardians will send Aaron Civale (1-2, 9.45 ERA) to the mound, while Minnesota will counter with Sonny Gray (0-1, 3.48 ERA). Civale was supposed to pitch on Wednesday, and he's struggled this season, after going 12-5 (3.84 ERA) in 21 starts in 2021 (Cleveland was 14-7). He picked up his first win of this season in his last outing, despite allowing four ERs in 5.2 innings. Civale has been hit hard in THREE straight starts, allowing 16 ERs over 12.2 innings (11.37 ERA). His ERA has ballooned to 9.45 in 2022 and his WHIP is up to 1.70.


Gray won 14 games in back-to-back seasons (2014 and '15) with Oakland but has been an underachiever since. He began this season 82-72 with a career ERA of 3.61. He strained his right hamstring in his second start of 2022 (Apr 16) but returned May 7 after a three-week absence to give the Twins four scoreless innings in a 1-0 Minnesota win against Oakland this past Saturday. He struck out seven and surrendered just two hits and two walks in that game.


The Guardians have won EIGHT of their last 11 games, while the Twins just got swept 3-0 by Houston, which outscored them 21-3. However, prior to that, the Twins had won SEVEN of nine games. I expect the Minnesota bats to 'wake up' against a struggling Civale and for Gray to give Minnesota a solid 5 or 6 innings.

San Francisco's got their ace Logan Webb on the mound, but he's not pitched anything like an ace in 2022. Webb is 4-1 with a 3.82 ERA and 1.387 WHIP in 6 starts. He's somehow 3-0 with a 5.09 ERA and 1.698 WHIP in his last 3 starts. Simply put, St Louis should not be a dog at home in this one. Play the Cardinals +110!

This is a play on the ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS for our Friday Free Play. Chicago took two of three at San Diego and the Cubs are now a respectable 7-8 on the road as it heads to Arizona to conclude this six-game roadtrip. They have struggled this season on the mound as they are ranked No. 25 in runs allowed, No. 25 in opposing batting average allowed and No. 28 in opposing OBP. The bullpen has been decent but the starters have really had issues, posting a 4.98 ERA. The offense is not far behind as prior to the series with the Padres, San Diego scored two runs or less in eight of its previous nine games, putting up only 1.3 rpg. The Cubs are 15-41 in their last 56 games against teams with a winning record. Arizona has won its first two series in this nine-game homestand, winning four of the six games to move to 9-9 at home. The Diamondbacks are trying to keep pace in the National League West as they are two games over .500 overall which has them in fourth place, just four games behind the Dodgers. The pitching has led the way with a 3.55 ERA including a 2.43 ERA from the starting pitching and they send Zach Davies to the hill who came here vying for a backend starter role and he has been solid with a 3.34 ERA including a 2.95 ERA over his last four starts. Arizona is 15-5 in its last 20 home games after having won four or five of their last six games. Here, we play on home favorites with a money line of -110 or higher with a starting pitcher whose gives up 0.5 or fewer home runs per start, after a game where the bullpen allowed six or more earned runs.
