Saturday's MLB Free Pick: San Francisco Giants -133
I'll take my chances with the Giants as a -133 home favorite against the Padres. This is a good buy low spot on San Francisco starter Carlos Rodon. In his last outing, Rodon was rocked for 8 runs on 10 hits in 3 2/3 innings at St Louis. Bad starts happen. Rodon still has a strong 3.49 ERA and 1.112 WHIP in 7 starts overall. He's also been outstanding at home with a 2.12 ERA and 1.059 WHIP in 3 home starts.
Joe Musgrove has been rock solid for the Padres, but he's had a tough time against the Giants in his career. Musgrove has made 7 starts against the Giants and has a poor 5.02 ERA and 1.274 WHIP.
Rodon has gone 15-3 on the money line in his last 18 starts working on 5 or 6 days of rest (on 5 days rest). Give me the Giants -133!

Guess what? The Diamondbacks aren't that bad. They are just one game below .500. If you discount a four-game series against the Dodgers, Arizona would be 10-4 in their last 14 games.
The Diamondbacks are better than the Cubs. They've won the first two games of this series and have the better starting pitcher going here with Madison Bumgarner facing Justin Steele.
So why are the Cubs, losers of three in a row, favored? Got me. I'm just happy to grab this plus price with Arizona.
The Diamondbacks have underrated pitchers and are getting contributions from young hitters. The Cubs are back to rebuilding, eight games below .500. They are 14-38 in their last 52 home games. Chicago has lost eight of the past 11 times when favored.
Bumgarner has a 2.29 ERA. Steele is 1-4 with a 4.50 ERA.

The Phillies were at Dodger Stadium last weekend and almost swept the Dodgers. They won the first three games of the series, before LA scored once in the bottom of the eighth and two times in the bottom of the ninth, to escape with a 5-4 win. The Dodgers carried the momentum of Sunday's comeback win to sweep a four-game home series over the D'backs, scoring 29 runs in the process. In contrast, Philadelphia returned home from the West Coast to lose TWO of the three to San Diego (were shut out in both losses) and in last night's series opener against the Dodgers, fell 4-1. The Phillies have scored only four runs total in the first four games of their current homestand, snapping a 21-inning scoreless drought when they managed a run in the ninth inning on Friday.

The pitching matchup for Saturday's game features LA's Mitch White (1-0, 4.82 ERA), who is expected to make his first start of 2022, after five relief appearances. The third-year right-hander lost his lone career start against the Phillies when he gave up two runs in four innings back on Aug 12, 2021. Philadelphia will send Aaron Nola (1-4, 3.64 ERA) to the mound on Saturday. Nola started last Sunday against the Dodgers, allowing four hits and two runs in seven innings (8-2 KW ratio), but was 'robbed' of a win when Philly's bullpen collapsed (see above). In six career starts vs the Dodgers, he's 2-0 (team is 4-2) with a 3.09 ERA and 0.91 WHIP. He struck out eight and walked two in a no-decision.

Expect Nola to put forth a second straight strong start vs LA and for the Philly bats to break out of their current slump against White, who has yet to establish himself as big-league pitcher.

Saturday's Free MLB Pick is on the Tampa Bay Rays as a -145 road favorite against the Baltimore Orioles. Jeffrey Springs isn't a household name and isn't a guy that's going to go out and pitch 7 plus innings. He didn't allow a run in his last start, but he only pitched 4 2/3 innings. I think it has TB way undervalued when he takes the mound. That definitely feels like the case with who Baltimore has on the mound. Kyle Bradish will get his 5th start. He's got a 5.06 ERA and 1.360 WHIP in 4 starts. Going into Friday's series opener, Rays have won 27 of the last 32 meetings in this series, including 12 of the last 16 at Baltimore. Bet the Rays -145!

The Minnesota Twins are rolling right now after a slow start to get to 23-16 this season. Their lineup is healthy outside of Miguel Sano and they are really raking. The same cannot be said for the Royals, who are without their best hitter in Salvador Perez. They are also without CF Michael A. Taylor and SS Adalberto Mondesi.
It's no wonder the Royals are struggling to score runs this season. They are scoring just 3.7 runs per game overall and 2.8 runs per game at home. It won't get any easier for them against Joe Ryan, who is 4-2 with a 2.39 ERA and 0.956 WHIP in seven starts this season, including 2-0 with a 1.62 ERA and 0.900 WHIP in three road starts.
Ryan pitched 6 shutout innings in a 1-0 victory over the Royals in his lone start against them this season. Minnesota is 10-1 in its last 11 games vs. AL Central opponents. Kansas City is 1-9 in its last 10 games as a home underdog. Bet the Twins Saturday.
