Churchill Downs Picks: Mint Julep S. the toast of the card on June 5
    By J.N. Campbell

Churchill Downs Picks - Sunday, June 5, 2022

    Race 1: 6-1-5-2
    Race 2: 3-5-6-2
    Race 3: 6-3-2-7
    Race 4: 9-3-6-10
    Race 5: 4-8-7-5
    Race 6: 5-10-9-2
    Race 7: 7-4-2-5
    Race 8: 5-11-2-9
    Race 9: 7-6-9-1
    Race 10: 10-4-9-6
**Most Likely: South Bend #7 (Race 7)**
**Best Value: Life Is Hard #5 (Race 8)**

Most Likely Winner: (Race 7: South Bend #7, 2/1):

HOF trainer Bill Mott has this horse by Algorithims pointed towards this high-level OC event. Last seen in the Knicks Go $160k on 7 May, this 5-yr-old was up against rival Three Technique #5. He ended up 3rd against that group. At odds of 7/1, he was a good price. Now, Mott goes with Tyler Gaffalione, and this is a rider that can make a major difference. This pick is 3rd off-the-bench, and that portends something positive. Thumbing through his overall form, we should have confidence that this runner can get the job done.

    Wagering Recommendation: $100 Win, #7

Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 8: Life Is Hard #5, 12/1):

I like the ability of Jimmy DiVito … he can spring an upset when you least expect it. This colt by Munnings really missed against similar company. Going 1 1/16th on the dirt at Churchill, he got caught in a tough traffic situation. I want to back him once again because I think he has a great shot to improve off his work at Oaklawn. Sometimes a horse just needs another chance, and I think this is it. At odds of 12/1, we cannot pass up this opportunity. The able-bodied Geo Franco gets the call, and I like his aggressive mentality in the irons.

    Wagering Recommendation: $100 Bankroll, Graduated Wager WPS #5 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)

    Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 9: Turf, 1 1/16th, Old Forester Mint Julep S. (G3), $200k, F&M 4+):

Taking to the Matt Winn Turf Course, this Grade 3 race has a solid field … just what we need in a “feature” like this one. Out of these older females, I am “all in” when it comes to betting Cherie DeVaux’s Gam’s Mission #7. The filly by Noble Mission (GB) is my kind of turfer because she comes into Churchill off of a couple of positive “places” at the Fair Grounds and at Keeneland during their April Meet. Regular rider Adam Beschizza tried to her “up” in time, but she missed against rival Market Rumor #2, who draws in here. DeVaux is excellent when it comes to spotting her horses, and based on this one’s form from last year, she has the ability to game with the best of them. Let’s use her as the “key” horse, and then roll under my 2nd choice—Al Stall’s Dalika #6. This seasoned mare was seen in the First Lady (G1) last year at Keeneland. If she is ready to come off-the-shelf, then she could be tough to deal with. I like her chances, even though Ricardo Santana does not get all that many chances on the grass. A couple of others to use are Bill Mott’s Euro-import Petricor #1, that made her U.S. debut at Keeneland for Juddmonte in resounding fashion. Florent Geroux takes over for Joel Rosario, and the Frankel (GB) filly is primed for the class hike. Last but not least, we cannot overlook Mark Casse’s Hendy Woods #9. If you follow the turf mile division on the female side, then you know this one. By Uncle Mo, the mare is used to competition at this level. Stonestreet bred and owns her, and they are going to trust Brian Hernandez to get the job done. This is going to be some race, and with the right wager, it should pay handsomely.

    Wagering Recommendation: $2 Trifecta Wheel, 7 w 1/2/6/9 w 1/2/6/9

Belmont Horses in Focus for Sunday, June 5
Posted on June 4, 2022 by David Aragona

            RACE 1: ENDOWED (#4)

There’s very little reliable form in this maiden claiming opener. #2 No Code figures to take money for Todd Pletcher mostly because he’s disappointed fewer times than many others in here. It’s of some concern that he was so dead on the board in his debut at Gulfstream, though he ran like a horse that might appreciate more ground, and he’s bred to stretch-out. Though Pletcher has just mediocre numbers with this move and I wanted others at similar prices. #1 Nobodyridesforfree might be the horse to beat after facing tougher rivals at the maiden special weight level in his recent starts. I wish he had shown a bit more in those races, but he does figure to appreciate the drop in class. I want to go in a different direction with another lightly raced option. #4 Endowed made one start on turf last fall in which he showed very little, outrun every step of the way. Yet it’s possible that turf just isn’t his preferred surface, as he’s by Tonalist out of a dam who was Grade 1-placed on the dirt. He had trained pretty well for his debut, putting in some nice dirt works last fall. Furthermore, Christophe Clement is 4 for 5 (80%, $4.34 ROI) with MSW to MCL dropdowns going from turf to dirt over the past 5 years.

            RACE 2: TACO BEAN (#6)

Pat Reynolds holds a very strong hand in this race, sending out the two likely favorites. #1 Remembermom and #4 Motion to Strike both make plenty of sense in here. The former is coming out of some tougher races and will appreciate the drop in class. He’s earned his better speed figure going longer than this, but he did break his maiden sprinting back in February. Motion to Strike has a lot more speed than his uncoupled mate, but he’s moving up in class after just missing at the $16k level last time. He probably needs to do a little better than that, and he is a horse that has performed much better on wet, sealed tracks than dry, harrowed tracks. I want to go in a different direction with a horse who may get mildly overlooked. #6 Taco Bean has been facing significantly tougher foes in his recent starts against NY-bred allowance company. He was never going to race competitively against the likes of Key Point two back, or promising 3-year-olds Hot Rod Rumble and Who Hoo That’s Me last time. Prior to that he had run some competitive speed figures over the winter, and he was a decent second in his prior foray into the conditioned claiming ranks. This is a logical drop in class, and he’s going to be an overlay due to the low-profile connections. He also runs some of his best races when he can be forward, and there’s not that much speed signed on here.

            RACE 6: NICHOLAS JAMES (#2)

I’ll be very interested to see how the pace of this starter allowance plays out. The TimeformUS Pace Projector is predicting a scenario favoring horses on or near the lead, but I see plenty of early speed signed on. However, I’m not sure anybody can run with #2 Nicholas James early. I know both of his prior efforts have come in routes, but he’s shown excellent gate speed on each occasion. That was particularly true in his career debut when he blasted off to the lead through an insane opening quarter. The horse that was pushing him early that day faded to lose by about 50 lengths, and came back to win his next start on the turnback. I know Nicholas James has always been better suited to sprints, and now he’s finally being entered at an appropriate distance. There’s no true closer in this field to pick up the pieces if things fall apart, so I think there’s a chance he just runs them off their feet. The two runners with the best recent form are #4 Life Changer and #7 Baltasar, and I don’t have a strong argument against either one. I did think Life Changer got a soft trip when beating a weaker field last time, and I don’t fully trust him to run back to that race. Baltasar is perhaps more reliable, since he showed improvement first off the claim in his last start, and was flattered when runner-up Capone came back to win. He’s drawn well outside the other speeds and looks like the one to beat. I’ll just try to wire the field from the front end with a horse who figures to be a better price.

Rocket Picks : Churchill Downs, Santa Anita Park, and Belmont Park for June 5, 2022
              By: Aaron Halterman

Let’s finish the week out strong today! For the free pick 4, we will head to Belmont Park for the late Pick 4 on the card. We will also have full card selections for Santa Anita and Churchill Downs for the paid Rockets, so be sure to check those out. Let’s go!

Below is our free late Pick 4 for Belmont Park:

              Belmont Park June 5, 2022

              Race 6: Starter Allowance

#4 Life Changer goes for two straight victories today after an ultra-impressive win against claiming company last time out. This is a jump up in class; however, he looks ready for the challenge. #7 Baltasar also goes for his second straight win after a maiden special weight score last time out over this track. He should get a nice stalking trip from this outside post.

              Race 7: Claiming

#1 Candy Monet runs first off of the claim for a new barn, while also taking a nice drop in class, and also getting back to the dirt in this spot. #12 Love That Face also drops down in class for this one, while making her second start off of the layoff, which should lead to an improved effort.

              Race 8: Allowance Optional Claiming

#4 Lady Rockstar looked great in her debut effort in the United States defeating allowance runners with ease at Churchill Downs. This is the logical next step up the ladder for her. #6 American Bridge drops down in class for this race after running fifth against tougher Grade 1 company in her United States debut last time out. She also runs off of a layoff; however, Brown will have her ready to fire.

              Race 9: Starter Allowance

#1 Hillard runs second off of the layoff today after running second against similar horses last time out. Look for an improved performance this time around. #8 Reckless Spirit was a winner last time out at a lower level but seems to fit in well with this group. If he is ready to run off of the layoff she can win in this spot.

              THE TICKET

              $.50 Pick 4 (Races 6-9) 3,4,7 / 1,2,4,6,12 / 4,6 / 1,5,8 – $45

Al Cimaglia: Running Aces Late Pick 4 Analysis

                              June 5, 2022 | By Al Cimaglia

Running Aces has a 9-race card this evening with the 0.50 Late Pick 4 starting in Race 6. The guaranteed pool has been increased to $5,000, and the sequence will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

                              Race 6

2-Dum Luk Mooss (4-1)-This 4-year-old has 1 win in 41 starts but it came this year and fits with this crew. This is the spot to get sucked around and roll by late.
3-Bobleeswagger (3-1)-Steps-up after a gate to wire win and paced the back half in 58.2. Plano should be racing near the top of the stack and looks like a main player.
4-Arnie's Army (7/2)-Drops and gets a new pilot in Dean Magee as Svendsen steers his own, #7. Has the speed to be in the hunt and best to respect chances.

                              Race 7

1-A And C Artist (4-1)-Won last off a pocket ride and now steps-up but there are no standouts in this field. Will look for a similar trip and could be in the winner's circle again.
7-Wonder Bull (3-1)-Didn't fair well versus Open II company and now makes the 2nd start for Longo off a claim. Fits better here and this veteran could bounce back tonight.

                              Race 8

6-Star Track Hanover (5-1)-Comes off a nice win so steps back up to the Open Handicap class and will use right back. Looking for some value and will fade the program chalk #9.
7-All American N (6-1)-Hasn't been able to beat #9-Mandeville in the last 2 races. But has a post edge this time and will be making his 3rd local start. Plano takes over, that's a positive driver change and should offer a square price.

                              Race 9

3-Imma Tank (3-1)-Tank takes on easier and gets a new pilot in Svendsen. This smells like a drop and pop situation.
5-Paddy Murphy (4-1)-This 6-year-old could be better on the drop and will be making his 3rd local start. Needs a trip and Dean Magee can work one with this post draw.

                              0.50 Late Pick 4

                              2,3,4/1,7/6,7/3,5
                              Total Bet=$12
