Take: over

Reason: The Tampa Bay Rays have lost the first two games of this series with the Twins, 4-9 on Friday and 5-6 on Sunday. That drops them to 34-25 overall and a 1/2 game back of the Blue Jays for 2nd in the AL East. Before the two losses, the Rays had won six of the previous eight games. Jeffrey Springs will get the start today with a 1-2 record in his seven starts. Springs has a very nifty 2.12 ERA and 1.000 WHIP. He's allowed two runs or fewer in each of his last six starts since his opening start of three runs. Minnesota will look to Cole Sands to help them take the sweep here today. That might be a tough task though since Sands only has two starts and neither was any good. He allowed four runs over four innings to the Tigers and four runs over 3 2/3 innings to the Yankees for a 9.39 ERA. In addition, his WHIP is a very high 2.477. RACE 6: BREAKING STONES (#6)
I have very little trust in the two likely favorites in this N2L conditioned claimer. #5 A Longlongtimeago is getting significant class relief after competing against much tougher New York-bred allowance foes in his recent starts. However, his performances have gotten progressively worse since a decent return back in February. That follows a similar pattern that we saw last year when he ran well in his debut and fell apart soon after that. He’s pretty tough to trust in his current form, though this weaker competition may wake him up. #2 Vikram is equally unreliable as he returns from a 10-month layoff. He was claimed by Wesley Ward and put on the shelf for the better part of a year, which is not a great sign. Ward also is not taking advantage of the claiming waiver, leaving him in for a tag. He ran a competitive speed figure when last seen, but Ward is just 5 for 34 (15 percent, $0.97 ROI) off 180-day-plus layoffs in dirt sprints over the past five years. I’ll try to beat this pair with #6 Breaking Stones. I won’t pretend to love this 1-for-14 gelding, but he has gradually been cycling back into better form in his recent starts. He contested an honest pace last time against favored rival Tough Tickets before fading in the last furlong. I don’t mind the turnback to six furlongs for him, since he ran well, nearly winning, in his lone prior start going this distance in March. Dylan Davis should be able to work out a stalking trip, and he would be a square price at about 9-2.

RACE 7: FIRST TO ACT (#1)
The two most naturally talented horses in this field appear to be #6 Equal Pay and #7 Brattle House. However, it’s hard to see either one working out an ideal trip given their similar running styles. Both do their best work on the front end, and they could have some additional company up front from fellow speed #4 Sweet Surprise. Among all those speeds, I do prefer Equal Pay, who has run well in all three starts since the eventful start to her career, when she tripped in midstretch on debut and then got eased second time out. She did get run down as the 1-5 favorite last time, but I actually like the stretch-out in distance for her. She’s bred to go farther, gallops strongly, but just lacks some turn of foot. Brattle House, on the other hand, had things go her way last time in a race where a few key rivals failed to show up. I need to see it again from her as she makes first start for Bill Mott. My top pick is #1 First to Act. She figures to sit a good trip sitting in behind the front-runners. She obviously has to improve, and Shug McGaughey doesn’t have great statistics off maiden wins. However, I thought she ran deceptively well to win her maiden, as she was chasing two to three wide against a rail bias on April 15. I don’t think we’ve yet seen the best from this daughter of Curlin, and it’s not like she’s that far off the favorites from a speed figure standpoint as of now.

RACE 8: BELLA PRINCIPESSA (#9)
There’s obviously some possibility that these last two races could come off the turf given the forecast for rain throughout Sunday afternoon. However, this is a situation where my top pick would be the same on turf and dirt. #9 Bella Principessa figures to appreciate this turnback in distance, regardless of surface. I thought she actually ran pretty well in her return to turf last time, as she was never inside and made an early move to take over before getting passed late in a race that was falling apart. Most of her turf performances have come over route distances, but she proved that she was an effective sprinter on dirt this winter, so she should find this seven-furlong distance on grass to be perfect for her. I like that Joel Rosario stays aboard in a race where there’s a live Clement runner signed on. And she also would be logical if this race were transferred to the main track as she possesses plenty of dirt efforts that make her the horse to beat. On turf, I would also want to use #4 Love’s Misery, who exits the same race. She got a great trip when she won on turf two back, but she did earn a strong 105 TimeformUS Speed Figure for that effort. I don’t want to be too hard on her for her loss last time, as 1 1/16 miles is probably too far for her and she was contesting a pretty strong pace that came apart. The turnback should suit her, and there isn’t that much speed signed on in this field. The wagering entity that I’m against is the Steve Klesaris entry. Both #1 Winter Princess and #1A Miss Delicious have speed figures that point them out as contenders, but neither one has effectively sprinted on turf and they figure to take money, as entries often do. #2 Tis a Pity looks like the other favorite, and I’m not wildly against her. She did briefly get held up in traffic before launching her rally last time. However, that was a weaker field and now she’s again a short price in a much more competitive affair.

It's Swan Hill Cup day and Racing and Sports have highlighted our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for June 12.

SWAN HILL: RACE 8 @ 3:50 PM

PROCONSENT (3) narrowly on top in the Cup. Both runs back from a spell have been good, the latest beaten a length at Flemington. Stays down in the weights and should be peaking here. HI STRANGER (1) is consistent and hard to knock. He doesn't run a bad race and the 1600m suits. SILENT SOVEREIGN (2) was a strong winner at G2 level two back over this trip before a fair effort last time. Back to the mile and can improve. SELECTIONS: Proconsent to win.

SUNSHINE COAST: RACE 6 @ 3:05 PM

CRISTAL BREEZE (2) looks well placed here. He struggled in a much stronger race two back on heavy ground before bouncing back to win over 1400m last time. Should be hard to beat again. TAVIS TOWN (9) was outclassed in listed company last start but is back in his right grade and can bounce back strongly. BOLD WARRIOR (6) was well beaten by Cristal Breeze last start but did start single figure odds and can bridge the margin back with a weight swing. SIR BARNABUS (1) comes here fresh and does have a touch of class. SELECTIONS: Cristal Breeze to win.

HAWKESBURY: RACE 8 @ 4:30 PM

CARARTIE (4) finally broke the maiden status last time out and will take a stack of confidence from that victory. Can go right on with the job now. DENETTA (11) has gotten better every time she has stepped out to the races and is a definite top-three candidate. CUSHY (5) tends to mix his form but is a live hope if he brings his best. SELECTIONS: Keen on Caratie to go back-to-back.

CASTERTON: RACE 8 @ 3:35 PM

BRAWL (5) is a promising type over a middle who looks capable of getting to better races. He impressed over the course and distance two starts ago when taking out the Cup with a good gap to third. He wasn't beaten far in town last start over a staying trip and looks hard to beat here on the minimum drawn ideally. NOT USUAL GLORIOUS (2) has built a nice record winning seven from twenty one including three in this distance range and looms as the obvious danger. FAROOQ (1) despite an awkward draw is better suited over this trip having won the Cup here easily last year. Keep safe. BARRY THE BAPTIST (3) has mixed his form of late but his best would put him in the mix from an ideal gate. SELECTIONS: Brawl has the form to take this out.

PORT AUGUSTA: RACE 5 @ 2:55 PM

I'M KENNY (1) loves racing here with two wins and two placings from six starts. Will be at peak fitness for this and gets 2kg off with the claim. Looks very hard to toss. VEGAS DESTINY (4) finally shed the maiden tag last time out and will take a lot of confidence from that victory. Draws low and also gets some weight relief. Ticks plenty of boxes. WHITCHETY GRUB (11) strips fitter third-up and can earn some minor money. ABIT RATTLEY (2) only narrowly went down last start and can go one better against this lot. DISSOLVABLE (3) is drawn to get all the favours from the inside alley and should be in this for a long way. SELECTIONS: I'm Kenny to win.

Al Cimaglia: Running Aces Late Pick 4 Analysis

Running Aces has a 9-race card ready to begin the week. The 0.50 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 6. The sequence has a $5,000 guaranteed pool, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 6

1-Vickie's Vacation (6-1)-Plano should race near the top of the stack and be in striking range at the head of the stretch. Should be a player versus this crew and has hit the board in 10 of 13 here with 4 pictures.
4-Scroll On By (3-1)-Winner of 2 in a row has made it look easy. Could keep the winning streak going if Kerwood gets the top without any issues and controls the fractions.
7-Princeofthefield (8-1)-Will look for a price and this 3-year-old hasn't missed the board in 3 races at Aces. Competitive sort could surprise with a sharp steer.

Race 7

1-Momma Knows Best (3-1)-Northfield invader drops in his 2nd local start and should fit nicely with this crew. This mare made over $34k in 2021 in her 3-year-old season.
3-Al-Mar Spicey Talk (5-1)-Drops back to the level of the last win on 5-29. Dean Magee should be able to find some cover and be in the hunt at the wire.

Race 8

3-Just A Rocket Man (5-1)-Got the lead from post 9 in last and outraced his odds to finish 3rd at 85-1. This will be the 3rd start at Aces and should offer a fair price for team Lancaster.
5-Impressive Art (10-1)-This price shot had no chance last week from the 8-hole when dropped to this level. Needs the right trip but there isn't a standout in this field.
7-Frewil Dakota Sven (3-1)-Program chalk drops to a soft spot and should be considered. But this 7-year-old usually finds a way to lose and does burn money.

Race 9

4-Just B Talking (5-1)-Dropped in for $6k in last, drew post 8 and was hung the mile. This starting spot could be the winning difference and should offer a square price.
5-Almost Cut My Hair (10-1)-Will go with Svendsen and Johnson in this spot and leave out the 2 program chalks (3-7). Should be forwardly placed and may squeeze by down the lane at a juicy price.
